Final Four 2025 live updates, scores: South Carolina faces off against Texas for spot in NCAA tournament final

Yahoo04-04-2025
The women's Final Four has arrived, and it's all going down in Tampa on Friday night. First up, South Carolina will continue its quest to become the first repeat national champions since UConn won four straight from 2013 to 2016. It would be the Gamecocks' third title in four seasons, as they also won in 2022. But Vic Schaefer's Texas squad won't go down quietly, with redshirt senior Rori Harmon leading the way.
In the nightcap, UConn's Paige Bueckers will continue her final push for a national championship, the sole mountain she has yet to climb in her collegiate career. But the Huskies will have to go through UCLA, which has been dominant all season (and all tournament) after winning the Big Ten Tournament in early March.

Mavericks' makes interesting Cooper Flagg decision

Mavericks' makes interesting Cooper Flagg decision originally appeared on The Sporting News It seems that the Dallas Mavericks are switching things up for Cooper Flagg this coming 2025-26 NBA season. Throughout Flagg's basketball career, he had always played in the forward position. He mainly played at the small forward position. However, it appears that the Mavericks are going to experiment with some new lineups, with Flagg playing at the guard position. According to Mavericks beat writer Mike Curtis, Dallas has officially added Flagg to their website as part of the main roster. What caught Curtis' attention was the fact that he was listed at the guard position. While his secondary position does say he'll play as a forward, it was intriguing to learn about the team's intention to let him play at the backcourt. Kyrie Irving's absence could be why Cooper Flagg will play guard While everyone is looking forward to the Dallas Mavericks' starting five of Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, Cooper Flagg, Anthony Davis, and Dereck Lively II, it might take some time until we see them at full force. Last season, Irving tore his ACL, which sidelined him for the rest of the season. Based on the current timeline provided by sources, Irving is expected to make his return by January 2026. Having that in mind, we could theorize that Flagg's enlistment at the guard position could be due to Irving's absence. As of the time of this writing, the Mavericks have yet to reveal their intentions of having Flagg play in the backcourt. Whatever the case may be, we'll just have to wait and see if Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd can efficiently utilize the rookie in the backcourt. Dallas is set to face off against the Oklahoma City Thunder on October 6 in the 2025 NBA Preseason opener.

Shaquille O'Neal Reveals When and Why Cooper Flagg Will Dominate, 'He Was Not Dirk...'

Shaquille O'Neal Reveals When and Why Cooper Flagg Will Dominate, 'He Was Not Dirk...' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Six years after Dirk Nowitzki played his last game for the Dallas Mavericks and five months after Luka Doncic was traded, the franchise landed another transformational player in Cooper Flagg. Flagg is yet to play a single game in the NBA, although, like prospects Victor Wembanyama and Zion Williamson, the expectation is that he will be a top-50 player right away. Flagg was the youngest player in the draft, and while many see that as an upside (the Mavs will have as long as possible to build around him), Shaquille O'Neal thinks it creates unfair pressure on the star. "You must realize he's an 18-year-old kid, so you can't put too much pressure on him," O'Neal told RG Media. "From my experience, you get two years before people really start saying it's time to win. But I think he's way above that 18-year-old curve." The Mavericks already have more than enough win-now, veteran talent to help Flagg acclimate, although O'Neal thinks the fans, who showed nothing but loyalty to the Mavs of the past, are the best thing about the team. "Good thing about this organization, Mavericks, they're going to treat him well," he added. "This fan base is definitely going to treat him well through the ups and downs. We celebrate Dirk Nowitzki, but I remember Dirk when he first came in; he was not Dirk. He turned into Dirk. But the Dallas fans have always been great. So, Cooper Flagg is playing for a great organization, great town, great fan base. He'll be absolutely fine." O'Neal entered the league with similar expectations to Flagg and thrived; hopefully, for the Mavericks' sake, his impact can be similar in year one. The SEC will reportedly implement a 9 game conference schedule, starting in 2026

What was once a rumor has become reality, as Tuesday's breaking news revealed that the SEC will implement a nine-game conference schedule, which will begin during the 2026 season. Again, this was seemingly always in the works, knowing the obvious financial benefits for all 16 conference teams, while making the first two games of the season even more important regarding the College Football Playoff. To start, the SEC will remain divisionless, while each program will now have three permanent rivalries that it will face each season. Furthermore, nine conference games mean each SEC team will face one another at least once every two years, at home and away every four years. Outside of the conference, SEC teams will now be required to schedule one team from the Big 12, Big Ten, or Texas A&M's Week 3 opponent, Notre Dame, every season. This change only enhances the early-season competitiveness, providing the top-tier SEC teams an opportunity to schedule a top program out of three of the four Power conferences, or the Fighting Irish, to beef up their CFP resume. Texas A&M's current three permanent opponents are Texas, LSU, and Missouri, but with an extra conference game, the Aggies will now face Georgia for the first time since the 2019 season, and Kentucky in Lexington for the first time in program history. However, Texas A&M's new permanent opponents will change, and right now, I'll guess that Texas, LSU, and either Arkansas or South Carolina will be the top options, with the Longhorns and Tigers being the undeniable leaders. Looking ahead to the 2026 season, here are Texas A&M's three nonconference games currently scheduled: Sept. 5: Missouri State (1st year in FBS)Sept. 12: Arizona StateNov. 21: Tarleton State (FCS) Contact/Follow us @AggiesWire on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Texas A&M news, notes and opinions.
