Kelantan Immigration uncovers use of fake passport stamps by worker agents
State Immigration director Mohamed Yusoff Khan Mohamad Hassan said the discovery was made following the inspection of six "roadtour" vans.
He said the vehicles entered the country through the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) complex here.
"In the operation conducted this afternoon, we inspected a total of 42 Thais after stopping the vehicles in which they were travelling.
"Checks revealed that the passport of one of the drivers had Immigration stamps that looked suspicious and lacked an entry stamp from Thai authorities.
"The driver has since been detained for further investigations," he told reporters here today.
Yusoff said the two-hour operation which began at 5.30pm, involved more than 20 officers.
He said the Thais, mostly women, were being held for questioning.
The foreigners were heading to Kuala Lumpur to work when arrested by Immigration officers.
All have been sent to the department's enforcement office in Kota Baru for documentation.

Family rejoices as dikir barat singer Eda Ezrin walks out a free woman
NARATHIWAT: The family of modern dikir barat singer Eda Ezrin described her release from Narathiwat Prison today as a miracle and the answer to months of relentless prayers. Eda Ezrin, whose real name is Wan Norshaheeda Azlin Wan Ismail, had been detained at the provincial prison in southern Thailand with five others, including her husband, since November last year for possessing methamphetamine pills. She was released after a Thai court allowed an appeal to drop her drug charges. Speaking to Malaysian reporters gathered at the prison, her mother Zaharah Mamat said they never stopped believing in her innocence and had prayed day and night for her safe return. "Since she was detained, not a single day passed without us praying for her. "We knew she was innocent and had been wrongly accused. Today, our prayers were answered," said the 48-year-old mother of four. Zaharah also expressed the family's gratitude to the Thai prison authorities as well as her relatives for their assistance and support. "We are thankful to everyone who helped and supported us throughout this painful journey. "Eda is now safely back with us, and we hope her life will be back to normal soon," she said. Eda's youngest sister, Wan Nur Faqeehah, said the family planned to hold special prayers for her release. "We are happy with her return. Soon after receiving the call from the prison staff about 4.30pm, we immediately rushed here," said the 18-year-old.

Immigration Dept and AKPS to tackle staff misconduct at entry points
BUKIT MERTAJAM: The Immigration Department (JIM) is prepared to work with the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) to resolve misconduct issues among its personnel. JIM Director-General Datuk Zakaria Shaaban stated that discussions will be held with AKPS if problematic officers at major entry points need reassignment. He clarified that AKPS now fully manages 22 key entry points, including KLIA, Johor's Sultan Iskandar Building, and Penang International Airport. JIM officers continue to oversee daily airport operations, with AKPS handling counter arrangements while immigration staff assist in intelligence and monitoring. Zakaria assured full cooperation with AKPS to remove officers linked to misconduct if reshuffles are necessary. He spoke to reporters after leading an operation at a Simpang Ampat factory, where 307 foreign nationals were detained for immigration violations. The operation's success stemmed from joint intelligence efforts between JIM and AKPS, with continuous disciplinary actions against errant officers. Since 2022, 147 disciplinary cases involving immigration officers have been recorded, resulting in 55 dismissals. To curb power abuse, JIM is expanding digital solutions like autogates at entry points to minimise officer-traveller interaction. During the raid, 749 foreigners were screened, with 306 Bangladeshis and one Nepalese detained for pass violations. All detainees will undergo further investigation before being transferred to the Jawi Immigration Detention Depot. – Bernama
