AAI all set to assume control of multi-level car parking facility, second pick-up point to be accessible in a month
A few months ago, the contractor handling the Aero Hub, which houses of food, retail outlets, parking area and cab pick-up, submitted his termination notice to AAI unwilling to continue at the airport. Following it, discussions were held at New Delhi regarding management of the facility.
Recently, the AAI board made a decision that it will take control of the multi-level car parking facility for now. As far as the retail and food outlets are concerned, those willing to continue with AAI can do so and there may not be any issue, sources said.
For almost a year now, many passengers have been unhappy over lugging their baggage to the second floor of the Aero Hub to take a taxi. Though AAI runs buggy services, passengers wanted AAI to reinstate the old cab pick-up point opposite to the T1 Domestic Terminal.
To address the issue, AAI decided to have two cab pick-up points — one in the Aero Hub and the second at the same spot as the old arrangement of boarding from the National Flag point opposite to the T1 Terminal - accessible when the plaza construction comes to an end.
The plaza — a space for passengers to relax and unwind — has been shaping up opposite to the T1 domestic terminal. Despite numerous delays, it may be finally ready in a few weeks. Air passengers have been keenly anticipating the plaza facility as they can take cabs from this location. Meanwhile, AAI has floated fresh bids to manage the parking and cab-pick up.

Govt releases 205 cr to fast-track Mamnoor airport land acquisition
1 2 Hyderabad: Work on developing Telangana's second commercial airport received a major push on Saturday, with the state govt issuing orders for the release of ₹205 crore towards land acquisition for the Mamnoor airport project in Warangal. The funds will facilitate the acquisition of 280 acres for the revival and expansion of the airport, which was operational during the Nizam era but has remained defunct for decades. Despite earlier proposals, efforts to redevelop the facility had not taken off—until now. The Centre had given its nod for the airport's development in March. In a key step forward, the Warangal district collector has been authorised to acquire the required land and speed up the process. Additionally, the state has cleared the transfer of another 253 acres—free of cost and free from encumbrances—to the Airports Authority of India for runway expansion and associated infrastructure. Warangal MP Kadiyam Kavya welcomed the development and thanked chief minister A Revanth Reddy for allocating the land acquisition budget. She also urged the civil aviation ministry to act swiftly and begin execution of the long-pending project. Once operational, the Mamnoor airport is expected to significantly boost regional connectivity and stimulate economic activity, further establishing Warangal's growing prominence as a historical, cultural, and commercial hub.

AAI defers Halwara airport terminal inauguration; no new date announced
The long-awaited inauguration of the newly constructed civil terminal at Halwara in Ludhiana district has been postponed, officials confirmed on Thursday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was earlier scheduled to virtually inaugurate the facility on July 27. However, the event has now been deferred without any official explanation. A view of Halwara Airport in Ludhiana (HT File) Ludhiana deputy commissioner Himanshu Jain confirmed the postponement, stating, 'We have been informed by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) officials that the inauguration of the civil terminal has been postponed. No specific reason has been given for it yet.' Developed at the Indian Air Force (IAF) base at Halwara in Raikot subdivision, the civil terminal was a long-pending demand of Ludhiana residents, especially the business community, to enhance the region's air connectivity. It is a significant project that has been in the pipeline for over seven years. It was first approved by the Punjab cabinet in 2018 during the Congress-led government and has since seen multiple delays and missed deadlines. Though initially proposed as an international airport, the new terminal will begin operations with domestic flights only. As per current specifications, it is designed to handle one domestic flight at a time, with the capacity to accommodate 150 passengers during arrival and departure. The terminal will effectively serve as a replacement for Ludhiana's existing Sahnewal Airport, which currently operates a single daily flight between Ludhiana and Hindon (Ghaziabad). Once Halwara becomes operational, Sahnewal is expected to shut down. The construction of the terminal was in response to a longstanding demand by Ludhiana residents and industrialists for better air connectivity. The city, often referred to as the industrial capital of Punjab, has suffered from limited aviation infrastructure, forcing travellers to rely on faraway airports like Delhi, Chandigarh and Amritsar.

We'll need 217 acres of TN land to expand Puducherry airport: Centre
PUDUCHERRY: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has prepared a comprehensive master plan for the expansion of Puducherry Airport, paving the way for the operation of larger aircraft, including the Airbus A-320, Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Rammohan Naidu, said in reply to a question raised by Puducherry Lok Sabha member V Vaithilingam. The plan includes extending the runway to 2,300 metres in length and 45 metres in width to handle larger flights, he said. As per the proposal, a total of 402 acres of additional land will be required for the expansion. Of this, 217 acres fall under the jurisdiction of Tamil Nadu, while the remaining 185 acres are located within Puducherry. The Master Plan has already been shared with the Government of Puducherry for further implementation. The runway alignment is being altered by a rotation of around 20 degrees in the master plan. This would facilitate the expansion of the present runway 1500 x 30 metres (which is capable of handling smaller aircrafts only) to get a total runway of 2,300x45 metres (suitable for operations of Airbus 321 and similar type of aircrafts). The reorientation would not require huge earth filling as required in the previous master plan and would save cost and prevent environmental issues, government sources said. Currently, Puducherry Airport offers flight services to only two destinations—Hyderabad and Bangalore. Following the repeal of the Air Corporation Act in March 1994, airlines now enjoy full freedom to expand operations, said the minister, answering another question on whether flights would be operated from Puducherry to Kochi and Shirdi. AAI is in the process of engaging a consultant for preparing a land plan schedule, which will be shared with the centre and UT for land acquisition.
