Kelly Clarkson has officially joined the bob club. The singer and host of her eponymous talk show showed off her new haircut in a clip shared by The Voice on Instagram July 22. In the clip, she, alongside longtime coaches Adam Levine and John Legend, share that they will be returning for season 29 of the show, which will premiere in spring 2026. Fans welcomed Clarkson back with open arms, with many sharing in the comments how thrilled they are that she's making her return.
But despite the big news that she'd be back for another season, we couldn't help but notice her much-shorter haircut in this new clip. Though Clarkson has favored longer locks in recent years, it looks like she decided to take the plunge and embrace the bob. We get a quick glimpse at the hair transformation, but from the looks of it, she's opted for a side swept shoulder-length classic bob with some texture and waves throughout. She traded in her long, elbow-length blonde tresses and bangs for this much shorter, nearly bronde bob.
And Clarkson isn't the only talk show host to lean into the bob recently. On her show, Today with Jenna & Friends, Jenna Bush Hager got a bob haircut live on TV, courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Chris McMillan (he also cut Leslie Bibb's now-famous 'c-nty little bob' for her role on The White Lotus). While McMillan cut her hair, Hager exclaimed, 'that's so short!' and honestly, she's not wrong.
Bob haircuts are short styles, usually with the hair falling somewhere between the ear and the chin. There are tons of bobs to choose from, depending on how much length or texture you're looking for. For example, French bobs tend to be on the shorter side with a little bit of texture, while a classic bob is usually cut right at the nape of the neck and blunt. If you're more comfortable with a slightly longer bob, the shoulder-length lob is cut between your chin and collarbone. 'Bobs vary in length and can be longer depending on the desired look,' says hairstylist Laurabeth Cabott. 'Deciding whether you want a more chic style or something that you're able to play around with and style differently from day to day can help you determine what length to cut your bob.'
42 Bob Haircut Ideas to Try in 2025
The good news is that a bob will complement anyone. 'A classic bob haircut, where the length falls between the chin and shoulders, can look great on any face shape,' says celebrity hairstylist Jennifer Korab. 'A bob can be customized with different lengths and textures to suit your individual style.'
With her duties as a coach for The Voice and a daytime talk show host, Kelly Clarkson is also currently in Las Vegas for a residency until late 2025. We can't wait to get another look at the singer's new bob during her next show.

3 Baby Names Parents Should Never Use, According to a Speech Therapist

By the time you've ruled out exes' names, overused favorites, and anything that might invite playground teasing, the process of naming a baby can start to feel like a delicate balancing act. Now, a speech therapist is bringing another consideration to the forefront: pronunciation. Chloe Conrad, founder of Spunky Speech Therapy in San Diego, recently shared three names she knows she would leave off her baby name list. 'Rory, Rowan, Aurora,' she shared in a recent Instagram reel. 'They're so hard to say.' The issue, Conrad, 30, explains in a phone interview with involves what speech-language pathologists call facilitative context, the idea that certain vowel and consonant combinations can either support or hinder a child's ability to produce sounds, depending on how the tongue and lips are positioned. Some pairings are particularly tricky. Take R and O, for example. 'Most young children substitute a W for a R, which is completely developmentally appropriate,' she says. 'That substitution usually starts to resolve around age six.' But when R is followed by the vowel O — as in Rory, Rowan and Aurora — the articulation challenge increases. 'The W sound is made with rounded lips, and O is also a rounded vowel,' Conrad says. 'So when you put the two together, it becomes increasingly difficult for a young child to produce clearly.' Conrad also cautions against the name Laurel, noting that it contains two of the most commonly mispronounced sounds in early speech development: L and R. Both are part of a typical pattern known as gliding, in which children replace L and R with a W sound. 'That's why leaf might come out as weaf, or run might be pronounced as wun,' Conrad says. In addition, consonant clusters pose a particular challenge, according to Conrad. A name like Axl, with consonants grouped together without intervening vowels, demands precise and rapid coordination of the tongue, lips, and jaw — motor skills that children are still developing. Conrad was inundated with comments, many from followers who said they had guessed some of the names. "Said Rory in my head before you started talking," one person wrote. Added another, "Thought Aurora before you said it!" This article was originally published on Solve the daily Crossword
