Prestige describes itself as being a distribution company 'by filmmakers, for filmmakers' as the producing founders have 'lived through all the experiences and challenges that filmmakers face while seeking distribution for their film,' according to a statement. In addition to representing third-party content, Prestige will also represent Vital's slate of in-house titles.
The company will be based on the West Coast (Los Angeles) and East Coast (Atlanta) to 'further enhance relationships with filmmakers on both coasts.'
Previously, Rincon was a longtime acquisitions, sales and development executive at Premiere Entertainment Group, where he served as executive producer on several films including 'Ruthless,' starring Dermot Mulroney, and 'Shrapnel,' starring Jason Patric. Prior to joining PEG, Rincon was the head of acquisitions and U.S. sales at Spotlight Pictures. During his tenure with Spotlight, he acquired films that starred notable actors such as Dakota Johnson, Glen Powell, Jessica Chastain, Jean Reno, Rosamund Pike, Jason Schwartzman, Katie Holmes, William H. Macy and John Hurt, and also licensed Larry Clark's 'Marfa Girl,' which won best film at the 2012 Rome Film Festival.
Lemos, Guerrero and Knochel founded Vital in 2019. Lemos' background includes working with industry titans such as Scott Rudin and Donald De Line and contributing to projects like 'The Italian Job' and 'Limitless.' Guerrero's career spans early roles at Scott Rudin Productions, Industry Entertainment and Maya Pictures, where he worked on the HBO film 'Walkout.' Knochel started in the indie film circuit before moving to network television with Disney/ABC in their production and finance departments.
The Vital founders have played significant producer roles on films such as heist pic 'Armored' for Sony's Screen Gems, and 'Beyond the Lights' with director Gigi Prince-Bythewood for BET/Relativity, and, as a company, have produced theatrically-released social thriller 'Beneath Us' and WWI dramatic thriller 'The War Below,' among others.
Current and upcoming projects include the stem-focused unscripted series 'Tech Toys Lab,' which premiered on Roku Kids earlier this year, featuring innovators including Tesla, Boston Dynamics and NASA, and 'Christmas Balloon,' a Christmas movie in collaboration with Mattel Films.
'After years of working across both production and distribution, we began to explore how we might better support our own films and also those of our fellow filmmakers,' said Lemos, Guerrero and Knochel. 'The idea of establishing a more creative focused approach to film sales had been taking shape for some time. When the opportunity to partner with Carlos arrived, it felt like the perfect moment to bring it all to life. His vision aligns with how we've always approached our work, focusing on meaningful relationships and long-term impact.'
'I'm excited to be teaming up with Chris, Luis and Will, as I've greatly admired their work for years,' added Rincon. 'We share the same passion and vision of being able to provide a successful pathway for filmmakers to hone their skills and develop high-concept projects while maintaining their artistic integrity.'

‘Splitsville' Duo Michael Angelo Covino & Kyle Marvin Challenge Conventional Wisdom On Comedy's Global Reach – Comedy Means Business Podcast

As multi-hyphenates who together have premiered a pair of acclaimed indie comedies at Cannes — first The Climb in 2019, and more recently, Splitsville — Michael Angelo Covino and Kyle Marvin have a unique perspective on the old adage that comedies don't travel internationally. 'At the advent of cinema, what were the first blockbusters?' asks Covino in an appearance alongside Marvin on our Comedy Means Business podcast. 'It was like Charlie Chapman and Buster Keaton and a ton of Pre-Code stuff where everyone was naked. But for the most part, it was slapstick. It was silent films where people were falling down or crashing into things or a hose was spraying them in the face, and that is universal and goes worldwide.' More from Deadline From Touring With Vampire Weekend To Helming Tribeca Prize-Winner 'On A String': Isabel Hagen On Forging A Unique Career Synthesizing Music & Comedy – Comedy Means Business Podcast Leanne Morgan & Chuck Lorre Defy Decline Of The Stand-Up-Driven Sitcom With Netflix's 'Leanne' – Comedy Means Business Podcast Joe List & Manager Chris Burns Talk Building Direct-To-Consumer Career & Going Theatrical With 'Small Ball' Special - Comedy Means Business Podcast In the case of 'very specific, topical comedy that is of a place and speaking to zeitgeist only, then sure,' Covino can see a case being made that a comedy might not translate. 'But universal comedy, I think, translates better than any other genre.' Covino and Marvin's films together jointly embody an interest in absurdist comedy elevated by sharp writing and dynamic visuals, which focuses on relationships. While The Climb focuses on a revelation emerging from a long-distance bike ride and the strain that it puts on the relationship between two friends, Splitsville tells the story of two evolving marriages, and another revelation that complicates the relationship between those two couples. When Ashley (Adria Arjona) tells Carey (Marvin), abruptly during a road trip, that she's been repeatedly unfaithful and wants a divorce, Carey turns for solace to married friends Paul (Covino) and Julie (Dakota Johnson), learning that the key to their personal happiness has been to open up their relationship. In a last-ditch attempt to salvage his marriage, Carey pitches Ashley on a similar situation, and chaos ensues. Covino tells me on the podcast that a driving force behind his films with Marvin has been an interest in 'strong point of view' — stories embodying a unique juxtaposition between 'grounded emotions and characters' and 'absurd…and farcical situations.' From Marvin's perspective, the film also highlights their very simple goal of making sure that 'people are entertained' if they take the time to check out their work, in a moment where there are seemingly unlimited options, as far as what people can be consuming or doing with their time. 'I think for us, that means not holding back,' Marvin explains. 'If you can make everything interesting and compelling and believable, why would you hold back on the scenarios or situations that are fun to watch or have things going on that put pressure on character? I think we talk a lot about that entertainment value — what the experience of viewing the movie is going to be, and how we make that experience as fun as possible.' A joke a minute, with some really memorable visual gags, Splitsville is certainly that. It's a film with no clear comp, which while complicating conversations around marketing, affirms to Covino that he and Marvin hit on something good. In their appearance on our podcast, Covino and Marvin discuss the process of creating indie comedies unlike any you'll find elsewhere — one that was helped along, in this case, by Adam Newport-Berra, the cinematographer on the rise who's coming off his first Emmy nomination for his work on The Studio. The pair also discuss test screenings, the idea of cultivating 'future nostalgia' through the theatrical release, their desire to tackle a Christmas movie, and more. Covino directed Splitsville from his script written with Marvin, with the pair also producing. Neon releases the film in limited theaters on August 22 and will go wide with it on September 5. Layoffs Hit ‘BioShock' Development Team Amid Delays; Rod Fergusson Named New Head of 2K Studio Cloud Chamber

Cloud Chamber, the 2K Games-owned studio behind 'BioShock 4,' is undergoing a round of layoffs amid delays for the upcoming game and a shakeup in leadership. 2K, a subsidiary of video game publishing giant Take-Two Interactive, has tapped Rod Fergusson as the new leader for the developer and its 'BioShock' franchise, Variety has confirmed. Most recently, Fergusson was general manager of the 'Diablo' franchise at Microsoft's Blizzard, where he launched 'Diablo IV.' As Gilmore was removed from the top posiiton at Cloud Chamber, 2K also moved the game's creative director, Hogarth de la Plante, into a publishing role. In an internal memo, which was provided to Variety by 2K on Tuesday, 2K Games president David Ismailer announced the pending layoffs to staffers: 'Work on the next BioShock game has been underway for several years. While we're excited about the foundational gameplay elements of the project, we've made the decision with studio leadership to rework certain aspects that are core to a BioShock game, and in doing so are reducing the size of the development team to focus on this work and give the game more time in development.' Representatives for 2K declined to comment on how many roles are being impacted in the layoffs. 'As Head of the BioShock Franchise, Rod will lead Cloud Chamber and oversee the development of the next BioShock game, as well as franchise extensions including our film partnership with Netflix,' Ismailer wrote. 'We will share more about Rod's onboarding and how these changes will take shape in the coming days and weeks. Rod and I worked together 10+ years ago and I am grateful he has chosen to return to lead our BioShock efforts.' The third and most recent 'BioShock' game, 'BioShock Infinite,' was released in 2013 and made by developer Irrational Games. 'BioShock 4' has been in the works at 2K's Cloud Chamber for more than a decade. Read the memo to staff from Ismailer in full below. Team – BioShock is woven deeply into the fabric of 2K. It's one of our most beloved franchises and respecting its legacy and meeting our fans' expectations is critical to its future success. Work on the next BioShock game has been underway for several years. While we're excited about the foundational gameplay elements of the project, we've made the decision with studio leadership to rework certain aspects that are core to a BioShock game, and in doing so are reducing the size of the development team to focus on this work and give the game more time in development. I know this is tough news for everyone. If your role is being affected, you'll hear from your manager or studio leadership today with details on severance, career services and support resources. There is no easy way to do this, but we hope to do whatever we can to support you through this. I want to thank each of you for your dedication and hard work. I also want to share an important studio leadership update. After an extensive search, I'm excited to announce Rod Fergusson will be leading Cloud Chamber as the new Head of the BioShock Franchise. Rod is an industry veteran with a proven history of critical and commercial success, including BioShock Infinite, Gears of War, and Diablo. Rod rejoins us from Blizzard, where he was GM of the Diablo franchise and launched Diablo IV – Blizzard's fastest-selling game ever. As Head of the BioShock Franchise, Rod will lead Cloud Chamber and oversee the development of the next BioShock game, as well as franchise extensions including our film partnership with Netflix. We will share more about Rod's onboarding and how these changes will take shape in the coming days and weeks. Rod and I worked together 10+ years ago and I am grateful he has chosen to return to lead our BioShock efforts. I recognize that today is a day of mixed emotions. We're excited to have Rod joining us, and are equally grateful to everyone at Cloud Chamber who has helped us get this far. These changes are rooted in 2K's firm confidence in BioShock as one of the most beloved franchises, and our commitment to deliver the best game in franchise history. Why Ozzy Osbourne's Family Pulled The Plug On Airing 'Intimate' Documentary About His Final Years

The family of the late appears to be keeping things low at the moment, as they recently stopped the airing of his documentary. The legendary rocker, who had long anticipated his death, had prepared a movie in advance to showcase the last three years of his life. As the cause of his death continues to attract public attention, the rocker's wife, , is still struggling to properly handle her husband's passing. Why Ozzy Osbourne's Family Is Putting The Documentary On Hold The 76-year-old singer died on July 22. His family had earlier announced the passing of the legend via a statement that read, "He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family's privacy at this time." Almost a month later, the documentary on Ozzy, which was scheduled to air on the BBC, has now been pulled from the lineup. As reported by Variety, his family emphasized their need for privacy as the reason behind the pause. "Our sympathies are with the Osbourne family at this difficult time. We are respecting the family's wishes to wait a bit longer before airing this very special film," a spokesperson told the publication. It appears they want complete privacy for now, and the spokesperson has assured fans that a new airing date will be announced soon. A Sneak Peek into What the Documentary Would Look Like Upon Release The documentary titled "Coming Home," which emerged as a project following the deteriorating health of the music legend, was filmed to capture the last three years of his life. It was initially set to air as a series, "Home to Roost." As reported by the BBC, the documentary is set to highlight every aspect of Ozzy's final years, shedding light on the strength with which he faced his declining health, his determination to remain a stage star, and the impact of his struggles on his family. The producers have described the film as a "moving and inspirational account" of the music star's life as it portrays his journey with his wife Sharon and their two children, Jack and Kelly, as they pursue their long-time dream of traveling back to the UK. "There will be love, laughter, and tears," a source said of the project. The Cause of Ozzy Osbourne's Death Revealed The death certificate of the late rocker, released two weeks after his passing, revealed he suffered from many health issues. As reported by The Blast, four "joint causes" of death were listed, including acute myocardial infarction, out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, coronary artery disease, and Parkinson's disease with autonomic dysfunction. Ozzy, who had long anticipated his death and directed his profits to preferred channels, had been battling these health conditions as far back as 2003. However, his condition deteriorated due to complications from the back and neck surgery in 2019 after falling on stage mid-performance. "Five years of absolute hell for me and my family," he told Piers Morgan about his failing health in 2023. It was a hell of a ride for him, but he continued to manage his health even while making waves in his career. A Look At The Bond Ozzy Osbourne And Sharon Osbourne Shared As Ozzy continued to battle health challenges, the late father of six had his partner, Sharon, who also doubled as his manager, by his side throughout the journey. It was even reported that Sharon once mentioned they had agreed on a suicide pact if things ever became unbearable, as they didn't want to put their children through the pain of caring for a severely ill parent. As his manager, she played a vital role in keeping his career alive, often stepping in to save him at crucial moments. At his last performance, he was reportedly seen sitting while performing, a decision later revealed to have been Sharon's idea, as she didn't want the show to flop due to the risk of Ozzy collapsing on stage. How Ozzy Osbourne's Wife is Handling His Death The music manager is still overwhelmed with grief over the passing of her husband, sparking concern among her inner circle. "She's numb with disbelief at the suddenness of his death," a source said, as reported by The Blast. As different sources continue to express concern for the late icon's wife, who has also battled cancer in the past, Sharon seems to be done with love, describing the late rockstar as "her twin flame." An insider revealed that she is now more focused on her career and determined to keep Ozzy's legacy alive. Solve the daily Crossword
