Below, we have three recommendations for action movies to watch this month. This includes a new action comedy from two gigantic stars, a criminally underrated movie from 2016, and a terrific crime thriller.
We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+.
For Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz, Back in Action is the perfect title for their respective returns. Foxx suffered a life-threatening stroke in 2023, while Diaz hasn't acted in a decade. The duo, who previously collaborated on 2014's Annie, play former CIA operatives returning to the field in Back in Action, one of the most popular Netflix movies this year.
While working a job, Matt (Foxx) and Emily (Diaz) are double-crossed and narrowly escape a plane crash with their lives. With Emily pregnant, the couple leave the CIA to start a family. 15 years later, Matt and Emily are married and live a quiet life with two children in Atlanta. After the couple is involved in a brawl outside of a nightclub, their former enemies come after them. With their cover blown, Matt and Emily must rely on their old CIA habits to escape trouble and save their kids.

The Nice Guys is the internet's favorite movie, and for good reason. The 2016 action comedy from Shane Black is a hilarious and entertaining showcase for Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling. Crow and Gosling are right up there with Lethal Weapon's Danny Glover and Mel Gibson for Black's best cinematic duos. In 1977 Los Angeles, Holland March (Gosling) is a struggling private eye hired to find a porn star. Jackson Healy (Crowe) is an enforcer hired to protect Amelia (Margaret Qualley).
When Amelia disappears, Healy reluctantly teams up with March to find her. The investigation leads the duo down a dark path that could cost them their lives. The chemistry between Crowe and Gosling is impeccable, hence why the internet has been trying to greenlight a sequel for a decade.
Stream The Nice Guys on Netflix.
Chadwick Boseman was on his way to becoming one of Hollywood's best stars before cancer tragically took his life in 2020. While best known for his work in the MCU, Boseman was a terrific action star, with 21 Bridges being one of his more underrated movies. While stealing an exorbitant amount of cocaine from a Brooklyn shop, Michael Trujillo (Stephan James) and Ray Jackson (Taylor Kitsch) kill multiple cops during their escape.
The criminals flee from Brooklyn to Manhattan, where they plan their next move. Enter Andre Davis (Boseman), a hard-nosed cop tasked with leading the investigation. Davis gets approval to lock down the island of Manhattan, meaning all bridges and tunnels will be closed. The further Davis becomes embedded in the case, the more he's convinced that something bigger is at play that may or may not involve dirty cops.

Jennifer Morrison reveals the Netflix drama she's dying to join: ‘I'll do whatever they want'
Once upon a time, Jennifer Morrison starred in a movie with Allison Janney. The pair appeared in the 2017 crime/drama 'Sun Dogs,' and now, the director, 46, would love to work with the 'Mom' alum, 65, once again. This time around, Morrison is interested in joining Janney's hit Netflix thriller 'The Diplomat.' The series' third season is set to air this fall and follows Keri Russell as a diplomat that becomes the ambassador to the United Kingdom. Janney plays Vice President Grace Penn. Advertisement 'I mean, the truth is I just want to be on 'The Diplomat' with her. I would do anything to be on 'The Diplomat.'' 'I don't care how. I'll direct. I'll act. I'll do both. I'll do whatever they want me to do,' she added. 'I love that show. It's so good.' Along with being a pro in front of the camera, Morrison has been behind the lens these days. She recently directed the fourth episode of 'Yellowjackets' Season 3, titled '12 Angry Girls and 1 Drunk Travis,' and episode seven, titled 'Croak.' 9 'The Diplomat' director Tucker Gates and Keri Russell on set. ©Netflix/Courtesy Everett Collection Advertisement 9 Keri Russell, Rufus Sewell in 'The Diplomat.' ©Netflix/Courtesy Everett Collection The Showtime Season 3 project stars Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Sophie Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, Hilary Swank, and more. The entire experience was nothing short of magical for Morrison. 'It was incredible. I loved the show from the start,' the 'Big Stan' star gushed. 'I've been a fan. The fact I even had a shot at meeting with them and working on the show was a dream come true. That cast is incredible. The showrunners are incredible. Every episode kind of feels like its own film.' 'There's something different and loaded going on in every single episode, so as a filmmaker, it's also very exciting,' she continued. 'You're going to get to stretch and spread your wings a little bit. It was just incredible.' Advertisement 9 Jennifer Morrison attends the 2025 Astra TV Awards. Getty Images Morrison also would love to direct 'Barbie' star Margot Robbie one day. In February, Morrison spoke to The Post about how directing 'Yellowjackets' came about. 'As they were going into Season 3, they had some slots open up and were willing to meet with some new directors,' she explained. 'I had a meeting with [producer] Drew [Comins] and his company, and he saw my passion for the show and saw that I was no joke into it. After all of that, I think we all felt aligned and on the same page.' That's when Morrison began talking about working on her first episode. 9 'Yellowjackets' Season 3 red carpet in Los Angeles. So, as I finished four, they asked if I would also do seven. So then I kind of turned right back around and came and did seven.' Episode four followed the plane crash survivors putting Coach Ben (Steven Krueger) on trial for kidnapping Mari (Alexa Barajas) and burning down their cabin. Kailey Schwerman/Paramount+ with During episode seven, 'the Yellowjackets face the consequences of their actions. Misty pursues a new suspect and encounters an unexpected turn. Taissa's growing desperation reveals hidden aspects of herself,' per the IMDb synopsis. Directing two different timelines at once was a thrill for Morrison. Advertisement 'The two worlds are so aesthetically different. And it's very different dealing with veteran adult actors who've been in this industry for 30 years for some of them. And then these younger kids, who now feel like veterans after three years of doing this show but are definitely newer to the scene. But I guess aesthetically, it did feel like two different shows,' she recalled. 'But because the writing is just so rich in terms of the character study of it all, you feel like it all arcs together in such a beautiful way.' 9 Steven Krueger as Ben Scott in 'Yellowjackets.' Kailey Schwerman/Paramount+ with SHOWTIME 'So, even though you might feel that tug of the two different visuals, there's just such an emotional throughline that made it feel much more continuous to me.' For Morrison, she was able to bring her vision to life with both the young stars and adult actors. Advertisement 'I think the bottom line in this show comes down to the richness of the writing and all the character development that's there and the nuance of that. But also their incredible ability with casting,' she mused. 'They have picked such specific and interesting people, and they bring things to these characters that no one else could bring. So [working] with that group of women was just intoxicating.' 9 Jennifer Morrison directing Justin Hartley in 'Tracker.' CBS via Getty Images Each time the actors stepped in front of the camera, it added a whole new layer to the scene. Advertisement 'It was so exciting,' Morrison noted to the Post. 'Every take has so much life to it. And they bring something new to every single moment. You can look at something on the page and imagine how it's going to come to life. And then they do it.' 'It's even better than I imagined. So I think the biggest thing in the adult storyline was really just the excitement of watching these incredible veterans just breathe life into these characters in such a specific way.'
