Dakota Johnson and mom Melanie Griffith share the love during rare red carpet outing
Mother-daughter duo Melanie Griffith and Dakota Johnson had a rare flashy night out for a Hollywood event. Griffith, 68, supported her firstborn daughter at the premiere of Johnson's newest film, "Splitsville," at The Grove in Los Angeles on Aug. 19. The two took a few moments to pose on the red – well, beige – carpet together, sharing an embrace, clasping hands and admiring each other's outfits (Johnson was in Gucci). Johnson, 35, is the daughter of "Working Girl" actress Griffith and "Miami Vice" star Don Johnson. Johnson, who has a producer credit on "Splitsville," also took photos with costars Adria Arjona, Nicholas Braun, Michael Angelo Covino (also the director and co-writer), and actor/writer Kyle Marvin. The comedy, which follows an open marriage that goes awry, debuted in May at the Cannes Film Festival and opens in theaters nationwide on Sept. 5. Though it's rare for the mother and daughter to show up together at high-profile events, Griffith has shown herself to be an ardent supporter of her daughter's career. At an early press screening of "The Materialists" that USA TODAY attended in May, Johnson told the crowd in the intimate West Hollywood screening room that, though she was under the weather and unable to stick around for the entire event, her mother and her older brother, Jesse Johnson, were staying to watch the Celine Song film. A segment of Johnson's career where Griffith's support wavered, however, was the "Fifty Shades" franchise that made Johnson a box office star. "I don't think I can watch R-rated Fifty Shades of Grey," Griffith said in a live interview on the red carpet for the 2015 Academy Awards, adding: "I think it will be strange." The clip went viral as Johnson looked offended while standing next to her mother. "No, I don't think so; I think it's fine," Johnson said. "I think that one day you can see it." In a 2014 sit-down with Mario Lopez for Extra TV, Griffith said, "I'm never going to see the movie myself. I don't think Don will ever see the movie. It will just be too awkward." But by 2016, Griffith revealed she'd taken a peek at "Fifty Shades," telling E! News that she'd seen "a little bit" of the film. "I just can't quite bring myself to watch the love scenes," she said.

Coldplay's Chris Martin refuses to ditch jumbotron cameras despite Astronomer CEO cheating scandal
Coldplay's Chris Martin doubled down on the band's use of the jumbotron despite a playful moment that uncovered a cheating scandal. "We've been doing [the Jumbotron] a long time, and it is only recently that it became a … yeah," Martin said during the band's England stop of the "Music of the Spheres" tour. "Life throws you lemons and you've got to make lemonade," he continued, according to HullLive. "So, we are going to keep doing it because we are going to meet some of you." Astronomer CEO Andy Byron resigned from his role at his company after he was caught on the jumbotron at a Coldplay concert with his arms around the head of his company's HR department, Kristin Cabot. During Coldplay's performance on July 16, Byron appeared on the Kiss Cam with his arms wrapped around a woman, who was later identified as Cabot. The two were shown during Martin's "The Jumbotron Song," where the singer improvises lyrics about the couples shown to the crowd. Cabot immediately covered her face and turned away from the camera, while a stunned Byron ducked down and exited the frame. Martin then joked that, "Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy." The moment ignited speculation of infidelity across social media as video of the exchange went viral. On July 18, the tech firm posted a statement on X about the controversial incident. "Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability," the company shared. "The Board of Directors has initiated a formal investigation into this matter and we will have additional details to share very shortly." On July 20, Astronomer informed its social media followers that Byron had resigned from the company. Cabot later resigned from her role as chief people officer at Astronomer, a week after the video of her cuddling up with Byron went viral. Martin seemingly poked fun at the viral moment days later. The lead singer chose to give fans a warning before showing people on the jumbotron. "How we're gonna do that is we're gonna use our cameras and put some of you on the big screen," the singer said, while grinning. "So please, if you haven't done your makeup, do your makeup now."
