Amazon has my favorite iPad Air model on sale at an irresistible $250 discount

Phone Arena2 days ago
This may come as a surprise to a lot of so-called "power users" out there, but I believe that one of the best tablets you can buy right now is an "outdated" 11-inch iPad Air from last year.
128GB Storage, Wi-Fi 6E + 5G Cellular, Apple M2 Processor, Liquid Retina IPS LCD Screen with 2360 x 1640 Pixel Resolution, 12MP Rear-Facing Camera, 12MP Front-Facing Camera, Top-Mounted Fingerprint Scanner, All-Day Battery Life, Landscape Stereo Speakers, Two Microphones, USB Type-C Port, Starlight Color Buy at Amazon Certainly not at the time of this writing, when the perfectly competent iPad Air 11 with Apple M2 processing power can be had for a whopping $250 less than usual with standalone cellular connectivity.
I'm not just talking any old cellular technology standard, mind you, but those newfangled 5G speeds... you're obviously free to achieve on whatever US carrier you want. With 128 gigs of internal storage space, this 11-inch iPad Air (2024) variant normally costs $749, incredibly becoming more affordable than an entry-level Wi-Fi-only configuration after that huge aforementioned $250 markdown. I'll be honest with you, I'm not what you'd call a hardcore Apple fan, and I've actually never owned an iPad in my life. But I'm seriously questioning my Android tablet allegiance upon seeing this phenomenal new Amazon deal.
I mean, what's not to love here? The Liquid Retina display is absolutely stunning (despite lacking 120Hz refresh rate technology), the battery life is objectively great, the speakers likewise, and the long-term software support... pretty much unrivaled. Apple's only problem is that the latest (and greatest) iPad Air (2024) discount makes the 2025 generation even less relevant and compelling than before, at least for a limited time. Oh, and by the way, you'll have to opt for an unquestionably eye-catching "Starlight" colorway if you want to take advantage of the unprecedented opportunity to save 250 bucks on my (and, hopefully, yours too) favorite iPad model.

Check the Calendar. It's time for this app to get its Material 3 Expressive makeover

If you're looking for a date and go to apps like Tinder or eHarmony, it's possible that you're looking on the wrong app. After all, no app has access to more dates than Google Calendar. And now the Android version of the app is going through its Material 3 Expressive redesign. While some of the changes are hard to find, you can really see the new look in the Month view, where the days are separated with rounded corners as opposed to the straight lines used in the previous version. Also in the Month view, the Google Calendar Material 3 Expressive redesign uses the Dynamic Color feature to bring in colors that are prominent in your phone's wallpaper. Days of the week that need more letters to spell correctly are now abbreviated. These lines show up better than the thinner, harder-to-view lines used for the version of the Google Calendar app pre-Material 3 Expressive redesign. The background uses a primary shade of Dynamic Color, which is based on the wallpaper on the user's device. This option, which you can access by tapping the hamburger menu icon on the upper left of the screen next to the Month, and tap on Schedule. This shows you your future schedule, including tasks entered into the Google Calendar app. Again, the background hue is based on the Dynamic Color. My Pixel 6 Pro running the latest release of Android 16 QPR1 Beta has the right version of Google Calendar, but not the makeover. That suggests that Google has to flip a switch to activate a server-side update. To see which version of Google Calendar is on your Android phone, go to Settings > Apps > See all xxx apps. Scroll to Calendar, tap on it, and that takes you to the apps "App info" page. Scroll all the way tot he bottom and you'll see the version number listed.

IDC: Global tablet shipments grow by 13% in Q2, Apple leads the way

Michail, 09 August 2025 According to the latest report from the International Data Company (IDC), global tablet shipments grew by 13% during the April-June (Q2) period, reaching 38.3 million units. The growing shipment volume was largely driven by replacement cycles, new device launches, and state subsidies in China. Several brands also stockpiled inventory in anticipation of tariffs, which also played a key role in the rising shipments. Apple led the global tablet market in Q2 with 12.7 million shipments and a 33% market share. Cupertino's base iPad (2025) was the key driver for the brand, which saw a 2.4% year-over-year growth in total shipments. Samsung came in second with 7.2 million shipments for the period and an 18.7% market share. The Galaxy Tab series proved popular across Latin America, the Middle East and Europe. This is when Apple Intelligence gets OpenAI's new GPT-5

Vlad, 08 August 2025 A few hours ago, OpenAI announced ChatGPT-5, the best ChatGPT yet. Since the unveiling, you may have been wondering when Apple Intelligence will incorporate GPT-5, as right now it uses the older GPT-4o. According to a report from 9to5Mac, Apple will incorporate GPT-5 into the final releases of iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26. All of those are expected to start rolling out next month, which is also when the iPhone 17 family should become official. In Apple Intelligence, you can use Siri to access ChatGPT. Apple's assistant taps into ChatGPT to give answers when it's helpful for your request. You can also use ChatGPT with Apple Intelligence's Writing Tools, and use ChatGPT with Apple's Visual Intelligence with Camera Control to quickly learn more about what's around you. All of these functions currently use GPT-4o but will be upgraded to GPT-5 with the release of the next versions of Apple's operating systems, so you won't have that long to wait to get all of the upgraded functionality in GPT-5.
