The Integrated Transport Centre showcases smart and sustainable transport projects at Liwa Date Festival 2025
ITC is participating in support of national efforts to promote sustainability and harness modern technology to enhance the mobility sector. Its involvement also reinforces the festival's role as a platform that brings together heritage, innovation, and sustainable development, in line with the 2025 'Year of the Community'. ITC's presence at the event further underscores its dedication to community engagement and to delivering smart, sustainable mobility solutions that serve all segments of society.
As part of its participation, the ITC showcased a selection of its leading initiatives in smart and sustainable mobility. Among them was the Autonomous Mobility project, which saw the expansion of autonomous taxi operations to include the roads leading to Zayed International Airport, building on the services already available on Saadiyat and Yas Islands.
The Centre also highlighted its ongoing efforts to enhance and expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure, in support of the emirate's shift towards sustainable mobility and its goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
As part of its efforts to develop and regulate the freight transport sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the Integrated Transport Centre has worked to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of freight vehicle operations through the implementation of the freight transport regulations via the 'Asateel' digital platform. The platform is designed to empower operators and individual owners of freight vehicles, particularly those serving the agriculture and livestock sectors, to monitor and track their vehicles in real time through a fully integrated electronic system that uses advanced tracking devices.
The Asateel platform provides users with real-time data on vehicle locations, driver behaviour, and operating schedules. This contributes to more efficient fleet management, reduced operational costs, and improved compliance with approved regulations and standards. The Centre noted that the project forms part of a broader strategy to upgrade the digital infrastructure of the transport sector and enhance both safety and efficiency, in line with Abu Dhabi's digital transformation vision and its commitment to sustainable development across various economic sectors.
During its participation, the Integrated Transport Centre also highlighted key achievements in the maritime transport sector through a number of pioneering projects, including 'MARSDNA' – an advanced digital tool developed to support companies operating within the framework of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) standards. The platform, accessible via an online questionnaire on the Abu Dhabi Maritime website, generates tailored executive reports to assess sustainability readiness and provide a clear, actionable roadmap.
The Centre also presented the updated 'Al Nalia' application, which has been transformed into a unified and integrated platform for all marine services for waterway users. The app now includes several features such as weather updates, safety maps, e-services, ticket booking, and maritime alerts, as well as enabling users to report violations. These enhancements improve the overall user experience and contribute to a well-organised and safe maritime environment.
As part of its efforts to expand sustainable maritime transport, the Centre showcased 'Skoun', the largest boat made using 3D printing technology. This project represents an innovative step towards enhancing eco-friendly mobility options in Abu Dhabi's waters.
Alongside its participation in the festival, the Centre presented the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Disclosure Report for the maritime sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The report outlines the ESG framework for the sector and aims to provide guidance on integrating sustainability principles into maritime operations, supporting the sector's journey towards sustainability and reinforcing Abu Dhabi's position as a regional leader in ESG practices.
In the aviation sector, the Centre highlighted its work in developing regulations and legislation for unmanned aerial vehicles (drones). It has contributed to a significant transformation in Abu Dhabi's drone regulatory framework by issuing guidelines for civil use and related activities. This is achieved through the Federal Drone Traffic Management System (UTM), a comprehensive platform designed to regulate and manage drone activity in the airspace, ensuring safe operations, maintaining airspace integrity, improving system efficiency, and minimising the risk of incidents.
It is worth noting that the Liwa Date Festival is one of the United Arab Emirates' leading cultural and agricultural events. The festival highlights the importance of the palm tree in the national identity, raises awareness about sustainable farming, and supports local farmers. It also contributes to economic and tourism activity in the Al Dhafra region and serves as an annual platform that bridges authentic heritage with modern development.

Abu Dhabi Chamber: A year of impact and expansion
1 Aug 2025 15:30 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)Following the resolution issued on July 28, 2024 by His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, to restructure the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Board of Directors, the Chamber has entered a new phase of strategic delivery and private sector the months since, the Chamber has marked a year of tangible momentum. Membership grew by 4.9%, exceeding 158,000 companies, illustrating the growing strength and confidence in Abu Dhabi's business landscape and the Chamber's role as a key enabler for enterprises. During this period, the sectors posting the sharpest increases were agriculture, forestry, and fishing (21% growth), arts and entertainment (13%), and information and communication technologies and technical activities (10%). Additional growth was seen across water and waste management (9%), real estate and administrative services (8%), education (7%), transport and storage (6%), and mining and quarrying (5%). Construction, manufacturing, and financial services also recorded steady expansion of around 3%. Business engagement deepened further as over 1,000 private sector's representatives took part in 69 business events, including the flagship Abu Dhabi Business Week, and 10 legal and commercial workshops. To advance policy and regulatory reforms, 15 advocacy working groups collaborated with business leaders, while the Chamber answered sectors needs with 364 economic reports supporting data-driven planning and engagement also accelerated: the Chamber received 70 diplomatic trade delegations and for the first time, opened an international office in Poland to extend Abu Dhabi's international outbound delegations enhanced market connectivity, and 25 global cooperation agreements were signed. During this period, the Chamber also celebrated business excellence, awarding the Sheikh Khalifa Excellence Award to 7 companies for their performance and 18,900 enquiries were answered as the Chamber continued its strong commitment to service, reflected in a 90.23% satisfaction rating on the TAMM platform. Hamdan visits ‘Dubai Dates' exhibition, approves Dhs1 million grant for participants
Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, visited the 'Dubai Dates' exhibition organised by the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Center. During the visit, Sheikh Hamdan toured several pavilions and issued directives sanctioning a grant of Dhs1 million for exhibition participants in recognition of their efforts to preserve and promote the UAE's rich cultural heritage. Sheikh Hamdan was accompanied during the tour by Abdullah Hamdan Bin Dalmook, CEO of the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Center, and departmental directors from the Center. Sheikh Hamdan was updated on key facets of the festival, including various sections dedicated to promoting date palms and their cultural and social significance. He subsequently ordered the allocation of Dhs1 million as a grant to be distributed among the festival's participants. UAE Central Bank set to launch Digital Dirham in phases
The UAE is set to launch Digital Dirham through phases, according to a new report from the Central Bank of UAE (CBUAE). Once launched, Digital Dirham, which is the digital alternative to physical money, will allow the public to use it for a wide range of payments, including online, in-store, commercial and peer-to-peer transactions. A comprehensive platform has been developed to issue, trade and use the Digital Dirham, including the digital wallet, which enables individuals and businesses to conduct financial transactions, the report added. It will hold the same value as physical currency but in a secure, blockchain-based form. In an earlier statement, the CBUAE confirmed that the Digital Dirham will be launched for the retail sector during the last quarter of 2025. The project began in 2019 and has now completed its first stage. In January 2024, His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Presidential Court and Chairman of the Board of the Central Bank of the UAE, authorised the first Digital Dirham transaction abroad using the 'mBridge' platform - a system built with partners in China, Thailand and Hong Kong to make cross-border payments faster and low-cost. Before the launch, the CBUAE ran real-life trials to test how the Digital Dirham could be used. These included programmable government payments that can only be spent in approved places, tourist wallets with instant VAT refunds and easy currency exchange, fractional ownership of assets like property using tokenisation and parent-child wallets to teach financial responsibility with spending limits. The Digital Dirham is part of the UAE's long-term plan to modernise its financial system, making payments faster, more secure and easier for everyone to access. It will not earn interest, to keep its focus on spending rather than saving. The CBUAE will continue working with local and international partners to ensure a coordinated and gradual rollout of the currency across the UAE and beyond.
