Sunny and much warmer this afternoon. Highs are expected to be closer to normal in the low to mid-70s.
Canadian wildfire smoke will increase in our sky again this afternoon and will keep the sky looking hazy. No impacts are expected here at this time from the smoke, but that may change on Tuesday, as smoke may mix down to the surface more. Make sure to check back for the latest on the smoke and air quality forecast.
The dry stretch continues Tuesday with hazy sunshine; highs will rise to the upper 70s near 80 degrees. The warmer temperatures and hazy sky will continue on Wednesday. Highs will be in the 80s along with noticeably more humid air. Scattered thunderstorm chances return from Thursday through Saturday morning.

Canada wildfire smoke lingers over DC region bringing hazy sunshine Wednesday
WASHINGTON - Hazy skies continue across the Washington, D.C., region Wednesday as smoke from Canadian wildfires lingers in the area. Wednesday will feel warm and humid, with highs near 87 degrees, says FOX 5's Taylor Grenda. While the haze remains, conditions are slightly better than the day before, Grenda says. Temperatures on Wednesday will begin in the 50s and 60s with an early morning breeze, but humidity is on the rise and will continue climbing through the remainder of the week. Conditions remain dry Wednesday, but rain is expected to move in starting Friday Overnight, temperatures will dip to around 65 degrees, leading to a warm and humid Thursday, when more smokey haze is expected. "I think we'll have a little bit of a better chance to pick up on that smoky haze tomorrow," Grenda said. Storms may develop on Friday evening, though they will likely be isolated. Heading into the weekend, Saturday could bring scattered afternoon storms, while Sunday looks drier, with highs near 83 degrees. Unsettled weather may return Monday, with more storms possible. - Stay indoors and keep windows closed. Keep your pets indoors too! - When using air conditioning, keep the outdoor air intake closed and clean the filter to prevent outdoor smoke from getting inside. - If you go outside, avoid exertion and consider wearing a respirator (N95 or P100 mask). Rain chances ahead for KELOLAND; 70s likely for highs
Good morning KELOLAND! It's a cool, but pleasant morning across KELOLAND. This wonderful picture was taken from our Lake Madison LIVE Cam as of 6am. Plan on highs in the mid 70s today in Sioux Falls with clouds increasing this afternoon. We can't rule out an isolated late day shower or sprinkle, but more of the showers should stay West River. A first look at the rain totals today and tomorrow certainly feature more rain in the southwest. We'll look at that in more detail in the maps below. Smoke from Canadian wildfires will continue to impact the northern plains, but the worst smoke will likely impact Minnesota and Iowa the next couple of days. You can click on the video below for more details. You can see the showers today in western KELOLAND as they move to the northeast. They will likely struggle for moisture the farther east they go later in the day. The next round of scattered rain will develop across western SD again tomorrow morning. Those pockets of rain look more organized and will try to track into eastern KELOLAND during the afternoon. Expect lingering showers and isolated t-storms into the forecast on Friday. The weekend forecast should turn warmer for most areas on Saturday with highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s. A cold front will dive south Saturday night, bringing some chances of showers and thunderstorms along with stronger NW winds on Sunday. Summer feel arrives across Maryland, smoky skies continue
Get your t-shirts, shorts, and tank tops ready as we have our first taste of summer-like weather is arriving in Baltimore and all across Maryland. The summer-like temperatures will last through the end of the workweek along with our first true taste of humidity this season so far. Hazy and smoky sky from Canadian wildfires Canadian wildfire smoke will be noticeable in our skies through the end of the week. Wildfires burning out of control across parts of central Canada are producing massive amounts of smoke that's being transported into our skies by upper level winds. Luckily, the highest concentrations of smoke particles have been above ground-level, which means the air quality is good to moderate. You will continue to see some spectacular sunrises and sunsets across the area through Friday. The sun will have an orange to red tint to it along with a disc-like shape. Showers and thunderstorms Friday night through Saturday will help flush most of this current batch of Canadian wildfire smoke out of our sky. Early taste of summer weather After a cool and unsettled stretch of weather for the last two weeks of May and the first few days of June, we're about to get our first summer preview of the season. With a mostly sunny sky today, high temperatures will quickly climb into the 80s. Areas along and near Chesapeake Bay will enjoy a bay breeze keeping high temperatures in the middle 80s. Meanwhile areas to the north and west of the Baltimore Beltway, high temperatures will get close to 90°. Humidity levels will be on the rise, but not unbearable. Thursday and Friday will continue to be warm and quite muggy. High temperatures will top out in the middle to upper 80s. Skies will be partly to mostly cloudy, but widespread rain activity stays west of us keeping us dry through Friday afternoon. Areas north and west of the Baltimore Beltway have a shot of reaching 90° Thursday and Friday as well. Weekend rain will impact some outdoor plans Showers and thunderstorms will be approaching the area from the northwest Friday evening. Scattered storms are possible in our northern and western counties toward sunset. A much greater chance for showers and thunderstorms will take place on Saturday. We'll see a good deal of humidity throughout the day with waves of showers and storms. Since we're expecting a good deal of cloud cover on Saturday, most of the storms should remain below severe limits. Outdoor plans and activities that are weather dependant could be delayed or postponed due to the rain risk. Sunday's forecast is trending cloudier and potentially showery at times. The cold front responsible for Saturday's storms will stall just to our south. This will allow for scattered showers to form across central and southern Maryland. This means you may need the umbrella at times Sunday due to this change in the forecast. More unsettled weather is possible Monday and Tuesday with showers redeveloping Monday with a steadier and heavier round of showers and thunderstorms likely Tuesday. Drought improvement likely across Maryland Several rounds of rain and thunderstorms over the past few weeks have significantly cut down on long-term rainfall deficits across the state. Most rainfall deficits in central Maryland are now below 2 inches after recent rains. There are even a few areas across the state which now have achieved a rainfall surplus. A new drought update will be released Thursday morning giving us a better idea how much improvement the state has seen with the recent rains.
