Instagram just got way too personal, drops Reels repost and map feature to help you stay close to friends on new levels
Instagram is finally letting users do what TikTok and X (formerly Twitter) have allowed for ages: reshare content. The new Repost feature lets you re-share reels and posts, adding your own flavour while crediting the original creator. These reposts will show up as recommendations to your followers and sit neatly in a new Reposts section on your profile. Instagram's new update can now repost Reels, here's how It is not just about virality, this gives creators more reach while making your profile a combo of what you create and what you vibe with. Think of it as your personalised media mixtape. Snapchat, meet your new map twin. With Instagram Map, the app now lets you share your live location with friends, if you choose to. Found tucked at the top of your DMs tab, this new tool shows where your friends are hanging out (with permission), and what content they have posted in those locations. Instagram's new map feature is creepy or cute? Want to know where your friend got that dreamy plate of pasta? Zoom in on the map. Fancy a coffee date where your mate just checked in? Map it. Instagram says the feature is opt-in only and your location is updated only when you open the app, not while it is running in the background. A small win for privacy in a big-data world. Instagram also added a new Friends section inside the Reels tab. Here, you can sneak a peek at the reels your mates have liked or interacted with. It is like discovering your friend's Spotify playlist, but in video form. You will also find Blends, collaborative content recommendations you have started with pals. Prefer to keep things private? Instagram gives you the option to opt out. This feature has been tested in the US for a while but is now rolling out globally, so get ready to scroll through what your squad is loving in real time. Instagram new features are gonna change the scroll game Instagram's latest move is a not-so-subtle nod to its rivals, Snapchat and TikTok, but with that classic Insta polish. Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, even shared a reel today walking users through the updates. These features are rolling out as of now, so go hit refresh on your app and dive in.
