DU Admissions: Over 55% Opt for Four-Year UG Courses, VC Says As Per Expectation
According to DU Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh, around 31,004 of around 71,000 eligible students have opted for the fourth year.
Over 55 per cent of Delhi University students have opted to continue with their fourth year under the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) as the new academic session begins on August 1.
According to DU Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh, approximately 31,004 out of around 71,000 eligible students have chosen to pursue the fourth year, indicating that more than 55 per cent have decided to take the optional final year.
'It is as per our expectations. We expected the same kind of numbers. We are all prepared for this new beginning," Singh told PTI.
The FYUP, introduced under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, allows students to exit after one, two, or three years with a certificate, diploma, or degree, respectively. Those who complete the fourth year receive an 'Honours with Research' degree, emphasizing research, entrepreneurship, and skill-based learning.
Singh, who previously described the fourth year as a 'game changer," stated, 'This is the first time the focus is on research, entrepreneurship and skill." While the university views the continuation rate positively, some teachers' associations and educationists have voiced concerns about the programme's structure.
Addressing these concerns, the VC reassured, 'Don't worry. If facilities are not available, they will be created. It is in the interest of our students." He also assured students and parents that the university has made all necessary arrangements for both first-year students and those entering the fourth year, the PTI report added.
'It is a matter of happiness that one of the country's best higher education institutions is going to start another academic year. We will welcome our students with open arms," he added.
Meanwhile, following the first round of CSAS 2025 counselling, 62,565 UG seats at Delhi University were filled, accounting for nearly 88 per cent of the total UG capacity. Of these, 34,014 seats were secured by female candidates, while 28,551 were taken by male candidates. In total, 16,126 candidates had frozen their admission, while 43,741 have opted for an upgrade.

NEET UG 2025: SC Declines To Consider Plea Alleging Errors In Question Paper
Last Updated: NEET-UG 2025: The petitioner's counsel argued that the three questions were incorrect, citing two expert opinions that supported this claim. On Friday, the Supreme Court declined to hear a plea asserting that there were 'serious errors" in three questions from the NEET-UG 2025 examination. A bench of Justices P S Narasimha and A S Chandurkar advised the petitioner's counsel to approach the relevant high court. The National Testing Agency conducts the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related courses in both government and private institutions nationwide. The petitioner's counsel argued that the three questions were incorrect, citing two expert opinions that supported this claim. He stated that these questions affected the petitioner's score by 13 marks. 'These (three) questions were absolutely wrong. I have taken two expert opinions and those experts also concur with my views. They have certified my views," the counsel of the petitioner argued. The bench noted that the exam had already concluded. 'You withdraw this and go to the high court," the bench suggested, emphasising not wanting to deny the petitioner any remedy. The counsel requested that the Supreme Court appoint a panel of experts to review the questions within three days and consider their opinions. After the bench expressed unwillingness to entertain the plea, the petitioner's counsel decided to withdraw it. On July 4, the Supreme Court also declined to entertain a separate petition challenging the NEET-UG 2025 results due to an alleged error in one of the questions. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Ahead of I-Day celebrations, Delhi Police chief reviews security arrangements
NEW DELHI: Newly appointed Delhi Police Commissioner SBK Singh on Friday held a series of meetings with senior officers to assess the security arrangements in the national capital ahead of Independence Day, officials said on Friday. Singh, who took over as the 25th Delhi Police Commissioner, focused on the city's readiness for the major event at the Red Fort. According to officials, Singh emphasised the need for heightened vigilance, increased patrolling and enhanced surveillance measures in sensitive areas. In addition to security preparations, a crime review meeting was held with the city's 15 deputy commissioners of police (DCPs). The discussions centered on law and order across the capital. All DCPs were directed to strengthen night patrolling, tighten barricades, and implement stricter checks at major entry points, officials said. Singh directed that strict checking should be carried out at hotels, guest houses, bus terminals, railway stations, metro stations, malls and high-footfall markets. A senior police officer, requesting anonymity, said that Singh also stressed the need for plainclothes personnel to monitor public spaces discreetly for suspicious activities. 'The Commissioner highlighted the importance of inter-agency coordination and the timely sharing of intelligence in the broader security framework. Reviewing preparations for the Red Fort and other key venues, he instructed senior officers to personally oversee security drills and ensure the deployment of quick reaction teams, bomb disposal units, and sniffer dogs,' the officer added. SBK Singh, previously the Director General of Home Guards, replaced Sanjay Arora, who retired on Thursday. An alumnus of St. Stephen's College, the commissioner has had a distinguished 36-year career, investigating high-profile cases such as the Uphaar fire and the Ponty Chaddha murder, and serving in key roles across Delhi Police, the Research & Analysis Wing, and other state police forces.
