5 injured in 7-vehicle NSE crash

KUALA KANGSAR: Five people were injured in a crash involving seven vehicles at Km234 of the North–South Expressway (northbound) today.
The accident, which occurred at noon, involved a lorry transporting meat, a Proton Waja, a Toyota Vios, a Perodua Bezza, a Proton Saga, a Toyota Camry and a Mazda3.
According to the Kuala Kangsar traffic police, initial investigations indicated that the lorry is believed to have lost control and crashed into the rear of multiple vehicles ahead of it.
"The victims were taken to the hospital for further treatment," they said when contacted today.
They added that the victims include the 36-year-old lorry driver, the 66-year-old driver of the Proton Waja, the 34-year-old Toyota Vios driver, the 31-year-old Perodua Bezza driver and a 28-year-old passenger in the Proton Saga.
"At the time of the accident, the road was dry and the weather was clear."
According to PLUS on its X account, up to 2.48pm, traffic was congested for 14km heading north and 10km heading south.
Road users were urged to use alternative routes.

KOTA BELUD: A man sustained serious injuries after being trapped in a collision involving two vehicles in Kg Tambilaung, here, on Saturday. In the 8.55pm incident, a 53-year-old Wal Belah, who was driving a Proton Wira was reportedly suffered injuries to various parts of his body. Another man, aged 33, who was driving a Perodua Bezza, was also injured but was rescued by members of the public at the scene. Kota Belud Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief Elge Bakuk said the station received an emergency call at 9pm regarding the incident. 'A total of nine personnel were deployed to the scene with one fire engine and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) utility vehicle. 'Upon arrival, firefighters found one victim trapped in the front seat of the Proton Wira. The team used specialized equipment to extricate the victim,' he said. Elge said the injured driver was then handed over to the Ministry of Health (KKM) personnel and transported to Kota Belud Hospital for further treatment. 'The fire team also inspected both vehicles and the surrounding area to ensure there were no additional hazards. Kota Kinabalu: A 44-year-old year old man was fined RM4,000 or seven months jail by the Magistrate's Court here Friday for threatening to kill his wife. Kamirin Ebit pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to committing the offence against his 39-year-old wife by saying 'Ku sembelih kau pun boleh bah (I can slaughter you too)', on June 12, this year, at 10pm, in front of a house at Angkasa Apartment, Menggatal. The charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to two years, a fine, or both and if the threat involves causing death or grievous hurt, arson, or outraging a woman's modesty, the penalty may extend to seven years' imprisonment, a fine, or both, on conviction. The court heard from the prosecution that on the night of the incident, the complainant was at home when an argument broke out with Kamirin, who is her husband. During the quarrel, he threatened her with the said words, causing her to fear for her safety. She later lodged a police report which led to Kamirin arrest on July 4. Meanwhile, a 23-year-old man was sentenced to seven months jail for keeping a stolen car. Baru Junie pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to keeping a stolen Proton Saga belonging to one Winona Emmanuel, on May 26, this year, at 12.05am, at the traffic light, Jalan Tuaran Bypass, Manggatal – Tuaran. The charge is framed under Section 411 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of between six months and five years and liability of a fine on conviction. The prosecution informed the court that the car was reported stolen from a workshop in Putatan on May 25. In the same court, a 35-year-old man was jailed six months for a similar offence. Walter Jumain admitted to keeping stolen items comprising several identity cards, bank cards, a car key, an Apple Watch, and a laptop belonging to one Jude Ooi on July 24, at 9.30am in a rented room at Putatan town. The court heard from the prosecution that the said items were reported missing from the complainant's house in Penampang on July 24.
