Falcon-9's liquid-oxygen leak plagues Indian astronaut's space launch: What is it?
Hours before Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla was planned to strap into the Dragon spacecraft for a historic launch to the International Space Station, the mission stands postponed with no next launch announced on Wednesday, hours before the planned launch, that the teams require more time to repair the LOx (Liquid-oxygen) leak identified during post-static fire booster inspections."Standing down from tomorrow's Falcon 9 launch of Ax-4 to the Space Station to allow additional time for SpaceX teams to repair the LOx leak identified during post static fire booster inspections. Once complete – and pending Range availability – we will share a new launch date," SpaceX The Ax-4 mission was initially planned to launch on May 29 but was delayed to June 8 and then to June 10. It was postponed to June 11 due to weather issues and high winds in the launch rocket's liquid oxygen leak delays launchLatest input by @imsktripathi #ITVideo #Space #ShubhanshuShukla #Axiom4 | (@Akshita_N) IndiaToday (@IndiaToday) June 11, 2025WHAT IS LIQUID-OXYGEN? Liquid oxygen (LOX) is a supercooled form of oxygen, stored at -183C, and is used as an oxidizer in rockets like SpaceX's Falcon space lacks atmospheric oxygen, rockets must carry their own oxidizer to burn fuel. Falcon 9 combines LOX with RP-1, a refined form of kerosene, to power its Merlin mixed and ignited, this combination produces the high-pressure thrust needed to lift the rocket into orbit. LOx is used as an oxidizer in rockets like SpaceX's Falcon 9. (Photo: SpaceX) advertisementLOX is highly reactive and supports rapid combustion, making it essential for efficient rocket propulsion. Any leak or malfunction involving LOX can seriously impact launch safety and THE ISSUE? SpaceX had noticed a leak from the booster during the static fire test that was conducted on June is worth mentioning that the Falcon-9 being used to launch the newly developed Dragon spacecraft, had launched previously. SpaceX used the booster to launch a batch of Starlink satellites a few weeks back. Following its landing, it was refurbished and integrated with the Dragon spacecraft before moving to the launch pad at the Kennedy Space Centre in initially stated that they were installing a purge to fix the leak, but it appears that it did not work.' #India Today's @imsktripathi explains the significance of this mission from India's perspective.@ISRO #Super6 | @Akshita_N IndiaToday (@IndiaToday) June 10, 2025Now, that the launch has been postponed, there are chances that SpaceX might need to remove the Falcon-9 entirely from the pad and get it horizontal to fix the issue. That would mean a bigger delay in the launch that could stretch into the next week."It is understood that LOX leakage was detected in the propulsion bay during the test. Based on the discussion between the Isro team and experts from Axiom and SpaceX, it has been decided to correct the leak and conduct necessary validation tests before clearing the launch. Hence the launch of Axiom-4 slated for 11th June 2025 for sending the first Indian Gaganyatri to ISS is postponed," Isro the moment, SpaceX has yet to give a final launch date for the Ax-4 InMust Watch

Come to office or leave: Google gets tough on work-from-office policy, starts offering voluntary exits
Google has taken a tougher approach towards remote work in the US, asking more employees to return to the office or opt for a voluntary exit package. The company has rolled out a new return-to-office (RTO) rule for teams working in key areas like Core, Marketing, Research, Knowledge & Information (K&I), and Communications. The K&I group includes employees involved in major products such as Google Search, commerce and part of this move, employees who have been working remotely but live within 50 miles of a Google office are being told to switch to a hybrid schedule. This means they must start coming to the office at least three days a week. While Google had already introduced a hybrid work policy in 2022, this new step expands its reach and makes the expectation go along with this, the company is offering a voluntary exit programme to certain US-based employees, according to the internal memo accessed by Business Insider. Those who choose to leave will get a severance package. A spokesperson for Google said this option is being provided to help the company focus on the work ahead, and it's already been tried in other teams with positive The memo, which is shared by a top Google executive, explained that the company is in the middle of an important change, especially with the rise of AI. To keep up with the pace of change, Google wants its teams to be more connected and collaborative, something it believes happens better with in-person voluntary exit is also being positioned as a chance for people who feel less connected to the company's goals to step away, while creating room for others to grow within the organisation. Google has clarified that this is not a round of layoffs, but a way to bring more focus and energy to important the announcement has raised some concerns. In the past, Google has followed similar exit offers with job cuts. In 2023, the company let go of around 12,000 employees globally, and this year too, it carried out smaller rounds of layoffs in teams like Treasury and Business it is not clear how many people will be impacted this time, the message is clear. Google wants more of its staff back in office, and those who are not willing may have the option to walk away.

New AC temperature rule in India: What is it and why government wants to limit AC cooling between 20°C and 28°C
The Indian government is planning a new rule to control the temperature range at which air conditioners can run in the country. Announcing the new provision, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said 'A new provision is being implemented soon regarding air conditioning standards. The temperature standardisation for ACs will be set between 20°C to 28°C, which means we will not be able to cool below 20°C or heat above 28°C.' 'This is a first-of-its-kind experiment, aiming to standardize temperature settings,' Khattar added. What the new AC rule means Currently, AC temperature goes up to 18°C (16°C in a few) with a maximum of up to 30°C. Once implemented, the new AC temperature provision will restrict this temperature range to 20°C – 28°C. This means users will not be able to set their AC temperature below 20°C and above 30°C. The new rules aim to standardize how air conditioners are used across the country and reduce the high electricity use caused by setting the temperature too low. The government says that it will keep track of how the new rules are followed. However, exact detail of how this will be enforced, especially in different sectors, has not been specified yet. Why new rule for AC temperature During the event, Khattar said that the new AC temperature provision is part of a larger effort to save electricity and manage India's rising energy demand. One of the main reasons behind the move is to save electricity, especially in summer when power use is at its peak. Many people set their ACs to very low temperatures, even as low as 16°C, which puts a lot of pressure on the power supply. Pankaj Agarwal, a senior official from the power and housing ministry told Bloomberg that air conditioners use about 50 gigawatts of electricity — that's around 20% of the country's total power demand. 'Studies show that every 1°C increase in AC temperature cuts energy use by 6%. That means if everyone sets their ACs just 1 degree higher, we can save about 3 gigawatts of power during peak times,' Agarwal said. As quoted in Bloomberg report, stricter energy rules for air conditioners could help save up to 60 gigawatts of peak electricity demand by 2035, according to a study by the University of California, Berkeley. This would also avoid the need to spend ₹7.5 trillion (around $88 billion) on building new power plants and upgrading the electricity grid.
