'I clean with Shark's answer to a steam mop - it's hundreds cheaper than Dyson'
The days of the mop and bucket are long gone, with hot steam appliances quickly becoming the preferred choice for many households to achieve sparkling floors. Dyson, often hailed as a 'must-have' brand, offers its washG1, an all-in-one vacuum and mop that hoovers up dirt and mops floors, but with a price tag of £599, it's certainly not for all budgets.
I use one of Shark's competing products, which not only reduces cleaning times, but is also hundreds cheaper than Dyson's alternative. The Shark Kick n' Flip Automatic Steam Mop, now £139.99, uses hot steam instead of the conventional bucket of soapy water, and due to the heat, there's no need for chemical-laden cleaning products.
Unlike Dyson's model, this doesn't include a vacuum, so it lacks that major feature, but when it comes to mopping, this agile device has been a game-changer.
I switched to the Shark Kick n' Flip at the start of the year, and my floors are less dirty, the bathroom tiles shine, and it can cover my entire flat in about 10 minutes. My only downside currently is price, it's jumped back up to its £139.99 price, when I reviewed it for the Mirror, it was on sale for £99.
It's straightforward to use; all I do is fill the container with water and select the steam setting - I personally always opt for 'hi'. These can be used on a variety of different floor types, like the wooden laminate in my living room, kitchen, and tiles in my bathrooms. Considering the size of the Shark pads, they also appear more nimble than other alternatives.
For instance, this more affordable Steam Fresh Combi from Vax (now £79.99) boasts a larger triangular mop head, which, while slightly bigger, appears more challenging to manoeuvre under furniture.
If there's a specific mark or spot, the steam blast technology is ideal for tackling it - in tribute to its 'kick n' flip' moniker, all I do is flip over the mop head with my foot and press down on the handle, which emits a concentrated, high power burst of steam to help eliminate stubborn stains.
Once finished with cleaning, the dirt pad (or mop head) can be detached with a simple button click, releasing it from the mop. It lands face down, meaning I don't have to touch any of the muck, just lob it straight into the washing machine for a warm wash.
The only thing I've noticed is that it's worth buying more detachable mop heads than what comes free with purchase (two), as this is handy for alternating between the kitchen and bathrooms. I've been using the Shark Steam Mop for nearly six months and haven't encountered any significant issues.
It's still functioning as well as when I first unboxed it, which is why I chose to highlight a product I've bought with my own money, rather than it being something I've been sent to review. I'd recommend it to anyone in need of an affordable cleaning upgrade.
Online customers have also expressed their enthusiasm for it, particularly praising the distinctive steam sprayer feature. One buyer commented: "Brilliant love this so easy to use. Does a great job of cleaning my floors, love the option to trigger more steam which is simple to do .
"Only four-stars as the cord is not long enough and water tank could do with been a little bigger so less refills however wouldn't put me off getting another one."
Another customer said: "This is our third purchase of this steam mop because it really is the best we have found of its kind. it does not remain upright unless propped or held up. It is really easy to knock or pull over when switching plug sockets which may damage it."
Similar to the customer above, I've encountered the identical problem with it being unable to stand independently, though personally this doesn't bother me. Rather than supporting it upright, I ensure to place it horizontally, and no water has ever spilled from it when positioned this way.

'Lightweight' Shark cordless vacuum that will leave users 'amazed' slashed by £200
The top-rated vacuum tackles dirt and pet hair with ease and is currently 44 per cent off. A top-rated cordless vacuum cleaner designed for homes with pets and busy households is now massively discounted, offering a powerful clean with hands-free convenience. The Shark Detect Clean & Empty Pet IW4621UKT Cordless Vacuum Cleaner is currently available for £249.99 on Currys, a £200 reduction from its original price of £449.99 for an impressive 44 per cent saving. Packed with features designed to make cleaning faster and easier, this model offers a run time of up to 60 minutes, a self-emptying base that stores debris for up to 45 days, and intelligent cleaning technology that adjusts power depending on floor type. The Anti Hair Wrap brush of the Shark vacuum cleaner tackles pet fur with ease, and a 1.3-litre capacity means fewer interruptions during cleaning. The PowerFins brush roll digs deep into carpets, while the Anti-Allergen Complete Seal traps 99.9% of dust and allergens, ideal for allergy-prone households. Users also benefit from a flexible wand for hard-to-reach spots and a LED smart display to track mode and battery life. The vacuum comes with a five-year guarantee for added peace of mind. If you're after something similar, the VAX HomePro Pet-Design Cordless Vacuum Cleaner is available for £189.99 (down from £319.99) and boasts a 4.3 out of 5 rating from nearly 600 reviews. For those loyal to Dyson, the Dyson V8™ Absolute is currently £249.99 (reduced from £399.99), with over 13,800 ratings and a 4.4-star average. But for those considering the heavily-discounted Shark vacuum cleaner, they are not alone. It currently holds a 4.2 out of 5 star rating from 71 reviews, which hailed it as "superb" and "lightweight". One satisfied customer shared: 'Superb self-emptying cordless vacuum, we already had one of these downstairs and were so impressed that we bought a second one for upstairs! A very effective vacuum cleaner, essential in a house with 5 cats!' Another wrote: 'It's lightweight, easy to manoeuvre, and powerful enough for daily mess. The anti-hair wrap brush is amazing, and I love the smart display." However, they did add that the battery life was "a downside". They said: "It lasts about 30 to 40 minutes, not 60 as advertised.' Homewares deal of the week Looking to beat the heat as temperatures continue to rise? Then look no further than Dunelm's White Rechargeable USB Desk Fan that has an almost perfect five star rating for its small, yet mighty, design that means it works "even on the lowest setting." Easy to connect via a USB cable that can be connected to laptops and computers, this desk fan is perfect for those who find themselves working from home on these sweaty, humid summer days. However, it doesn't need to remain plugged-in, as the rechargeable element and compact six-inch design means it can be taken anywhere, even placed on a bedside table overnight on summer nights thanks to its "quiet" operation. It's finished with four speed settings to choose from and an adjustable angle that can help direct the cool breeze where it is needed, unlike other models that can sometimes be stuck in one place. As for Dunelm's own mini desk fan, it has received an impressive 4.8 rating from impressed shoppers who say that, despite its size, it is "surprisingly powerful" and "a literal life-saver" during this kind of weather. One five-star review read: "Fantastic fan, surprisingly powerful, quiet, lasts for quite a long time when charged, very hard to find a decent small rechargeable fan but this is it, will be buying more!" Beat the heat with Dunelm's White Rechargeable USB Desk Fan that costs just £25. And another critical review stated: 'It only runs for 10–15 minutes before shutting off, and sometimes the dust doesn't eject properly into the bin, it spills out instead. It also struggles with picking up bits of paper on hard floors.' But someone else said: 'Love this vacuum, in fact I use it even when I don't need to. It glides easily, the eco mode saves battery and it's so quiet. "The extra power tool is great for my sofas, and I was amazed at how much it picked up. It's the first cordless vac that leaves lines in my carpet!' Still, for many, the Shark's convenience and advanced features outweigh the drawbacks, particularly at this discounted price. Get the while it's still £200 off.

‘This mess-free vacuum cleaner is so lightweight yet powerful – and less than half price'
With my old vacuum cleaner in need of replacement, I put this Halo cordless model to the test to see how it fared on carpets, hard floors and pet hair – and it's in a huge sale Like many, I hate cleaning my house, so I'm always on the lookout for ways to make it as quick and easy as possible. So when my old Shark vacuum cleaner looked like it would be packing up soon, I jumped at the chance to try out the Halo Capsule X, the bagged vacuum with the biggest capacity cordless vacuum on the market. And if, after reading this, you're tempted to buy one then now's the perfect time, as the Halo Capsule X bundle is currently reduced from £616.92 to £249.99 on the Halo website, where you'll also find thousands of five-star reviews praising its performance. First up, there are a surprising amount of attachments and accessories inside such a compact box: hard floor roller, nozzle, fabric head, mini power head, extra battery, and more. It's all very intuitive and easy to fit together, so you'll be up and running in no time (Halo does advise fully charging the battery before using it though). With carpets in the upstairs of my house, wooden floors downstairs, and two cats that shed plenty of hair, I was well placed to test the Halo Capsule X out to its full capacity. Starting on my carpets, I was immediately impressed with how light it was to hold and manoeuvre (I could easily do it with one hand) yet how powerful it was – it almost pulled me along with it! My carpets felt perfectly clean in minutes. I had less luck with the roller head downstairs. Although definitely gentle on the flooring, I didn't feel that it sucked up all the dirt and crumbs. I feel like it might work better on a linoleum floor rather than my uneven wooden one, and I instead switched to using the regular head on its lowest power setting (there are three settings to choose from). The other attachments were also very effective. The nozzle got right into nooks and crannies, while the head for sofas and fabrics did a good job at removing hair (although the fabric my sofas are made of makes it tricky to get rid of hair completely). My one criticism is that removing the heads can be quite stiff and requires two hands, something that may be tricky for people with dexterity issues. The bag inside can hold two litres of dust, with a red light telling you when it needs emptying when using boost mode. The bags are compostable and super-easy to fit and remove, and while there is the obvious cost of having to continuously buy these, it is far less messy than tipping out a bagless vacuum cartridge, and much better for allergy sufferers. Having never used a bagged vacuum cleaner before, I was surprised how easy and efficient it was. Another feature that I liked compared to my previous machine was that the three power settings applied to every attachment and head – sometimes the nozzle, for example, can only be used at one air strength. In my bundle I also got a spare battery, which is handy if you forget to fully charge the tool before starting. One downside compared to other models, however, is that you can't switch between floor surfaces using the same head – you have to stop and manually change over the heads. There's also nothing to neatly store all the attachments in; a basic tote bag in the box would have been handy. Overall, though, this is an excellent lightweight-yet-powerful model for anyone looking for a compact bagged vacuum cleaner. For something more traditional in style, and with larger capacity, the Hoover Bagged Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner is currently reduced from £139 to £99. And Shark's machines are always popular; this is its most basic model, and now down from £249..9 to £179.99.
