Halifax pizzaiolo named one of the top 100 pizza chefs in the world
Toullec, who is the chef at Lou Pécou Pizzeria in north-end Halifax, says he thought he was being scammed at first.
'I told my team that we have received the biggest scam,' he said.
'For us to pretend to have access to this kind (of recognition), it's way beyond reasonable.'

Originally from Marseille, France, Toullec says when the restaurant opened three years ago, he wanted to use local ingredients and deliver fresh, authentic pizza.
The Best Chef Awards is an international culinary ranking that works in the same way the Michelin Guide does.

Owners and staff are never aware that their restaurant is being judged.
'I was happy before that happened, I didn't need that to be happy or alive. I was proud of what I was doing, I was proud of my team, I was proud about Halifax,' he said. 'That is just a little cherry on the cake. That I like.'
Despite the new international recognition, he stresses the importance of supporting local restaurants and cafes.
'Small restaurants are really the soul and the guardian and the heir of what Nova Scotia has to give, the best of what it has to offer,' said Toullec.
'There is so many places that deserve attention, deserve the same amount of recognition.'

Two influencers narrowly escaped a deadly situation as an SUV smashed through a restaurant window in the midst of their food review — and the shocking moment was caught on camera. Social media influencers Nina Santiago (also known as NinaUnrated) and Patrick Blackwood were enjoying a meal at Cuvees Culinary Creations in Houston, Texas, when a car crashed through a restaurant window and hit their table, knocking the pair to the floor and sending shattered glass flying everywhere. They were filming themselves eating sliders at the restaurant on Aug. 16 around 4:40 p.m. local time. As they took a bite out of the sliders, the vehicle plowed into the window. 'The female driver of the vehicle advised that she thought she had placed the vehicle in park and upon releasing her foot off the brake, the vehicle rolled into the business, striking the building, and breaking the glass,' a spokesperson for the Harris County Sheriff's Office told the New York Post. 'There were two people inside the business, one male and one female, sitting inside in a booth that were injured and transported to a local area hospital,' they added. Santiago and Blackwood also addressed the incident in a YouTube caption that accompanied a video on their channel. 'We can't even begin to express how incredibly fortunate we feel to be alive after what happened to us,' the pair wrote. 'We were laughing, having a great time, and right as we tapped our sliders together in a 'boom!' cheers moment, out of nowhere, this SUV came barreling through the glass wall at 35-40 mph.' 'No warning at all glass shattered everywhere, chaos erupted, and it hit right next to Patrick on the outside of the booth. FTC sues ticket reseller, saying it illegally exceeded purchase limits for Taylor Swift, other shows
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission filed a lawsuit Monday against a ticket broker, alleging the company used illegal tactics to exceed purchasing limits for popular events and then resold tickets at significantly higher prices. In a lawsuit filed in federal court in Maryland, the FTC said Maryland-based ticket broker Key Investment Group has used thousands of fictitious Ticketmaster accounts and other methods to buy tickets for events, including Taylor Swift's Eras Tour. According to the FTC, Key Investment Group – which does business under brand names like Epic Seats and Totally Tix – purchased at least 379,776 tickets from Ticketmaster between Nov. 1, 2022, and Dec. 30, 2023. The company spent nearly $57 million to buy the tickets and resold them on secondary marketplaces for approximately $64 million. For just one Taylor Swift concert, Key Investment Group allegedly used 49 different accounts to purchase 273 tickets, dramatically exceeding the Eras Tour's 2023 six-ticket purchase limit per event, the FTC said. Fans were so frustrated by the difficulty getting tickets for Swift's tour that the U.S. Senate wound up grilling Ticketmaster in a 2023 hearing. In a statement released Monday, Key Investment Group said it will vigorously defend itself against the FTC's lawsuit. 'The case threatens to dismantle the secondary ticket market for live events, further consolidating power in the hands of the industry's largest monopoly,' the company said. Key Investment Group said the FTC is misapplying the Better Online Ticket Sales Act, a 2016 law which it said was meant to target malicious software, not legitimate resale businesses. Key Investment Group sued the FTC in July to try to prevent the agency from using the law against it, saying it uses human employees — not bots — to buy tickets. But the FTC said that law also prohibits anyone from circumventing security measures and other controls meant to enforce posted ticket limits. In March, with Kid Rock by his side in the Oval Office, President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing U.S. officials to ensure ticket resellers are complying with Internal Revenue Service rules. The order also directed the FTC to ensure 'price transparency at all stages of the ticket-purchase process' and to 'take enforcement action to prevent unfair, deceptive, and anti-competitive conduct in the secondary ticketing market.'

These five Ottawa-area chefs will vie for a spot at the 2026 Canadian Culinary Championship
Article content Five chefs from Ottawa and the Outaouais will cook off against each other next month, hoping to qualify for the 2026 Canadian Culinary Championship next January. Article content Three of the chefs at the Sept. 22 event are newcomers to the annual competition, which is called the Ottawa edition of Canada's Great Kitchen Party, but in past years was known as Gold Medal Plates. These chefs include Simon Beaudry, the 31-year-old chef at Les Fougères in Chelsea, Simon Laroche, chef at the pasta-focused restaurant Caméline in Gatineau's Hull sector, and Michael Hauschild, the private chef who runs the Kanata-based catering company InHaus Cooking.
