The flagship initiative, led by the Directorate of Higher Education, aims to provide financial assistance to economically disadvantaged yet meritorious students pursuing higher education.
A total of 1,305 students will directly benefit from this scholarship drive, marking a significant step toward inclusive access to quality education in the capital.
Delivering a message ahead of the event, chief minister Rekha Gupta said, "As your CM, I am proud to highlight the remarkable strides our govt has made in just the first 100 days.
We are committed to transforming Delhi into a model of inclusive and quality education."
She added that the education minister had introduced a series of student-centric reforms, including scholarships for students from economically weaker sections of Delhi's govt universities. "For the first time, students preparing for competitive exams like JEE, NEET, CUET, and others will receive free coaching in Delhi govt schools.

Gupta also noted that the Delhi govt had allocated a record Rs 20,000 crore to the education sector. "This is the largest investment in our capital's educational future—covering infrastructure, digital learning, teacher empowerment, and direct student support," she said.
At the event, education minister Ashish Sood emphasised the importance of investing in students.

"Our students are not just learners—they are the torchbearers of India's progress. Supporting their growth is not a choice, but a national imperative," he said.
Sood shared that, within just 100 days, the govt had disbursed Rs 19 crore in scholarship support to 1,305 deserving students from Delhi's govt universities. "This is not a symbolic gesture—it is a bold demonstration of our priorities," he asserted.
He also stressed the govt's focus on building systems that prioritise outcomes, reward merit, and uplift those most in need.
"Whether it's access to higher education, exam preparation, or infrastructure upgrades, we are laying the foundation for lasting transformation," he said.
IGDTUW vice-chancellor Ranjana Jha also addressed the gathering, expressing pride in the university's role in advancing educational equity. "These scholarships reaffirm the Delhi govt's commitment to building an educational ecosystem where no student is left behind due to financial constraints," she said.

PM Modi asked to give representation on Bengaluru Tunnel Road Project: Dy CM Shivakumar
BENGALURU: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar informed the Legislative Council on Thursday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his recent visit to Bengaluru, directed the state government to submit a formal proposal for the ambitious Tunnel Road Project. The PM's instruction came after he expressed admiration for the Ragigudda Double Decker Project and encouraged its expansion into a 44-km double-decker corridor for the city. Shivakumar was responding to BJP MLC CT Ravi's queries regarding the Tunnel Road Project's feasibility and alleged discrepancies in its Detailed Project Report (DPR). The DCM stated, "The PM said India is seen through Bengaluru and echoed what former PM Vajpayee has told. Hence we asked him to fund the Tunnel Road Project to which he replied saying give a representation and he shall look into it." He added that the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) would share the project cost equally. Highlighting Bengaluru's rapid urbanization, Shivakumar noted that the city's population has doubled from 70 lakh to 1.4 crore in 25 years, while vehicle numbers have surged to 1.23 crore. "The city has 25 lakh software engineers compared to 13 lakh in California," he said, emphasizing the need for infrastructure upgrades like the Tunnel Road, Double Decker corridors, and buffer zone roads to ease congestion. The DCM revealed that Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari had advised studying Mumbai's tunnel projects before finalizing plans. After a 1.6-year review, the government decided to proceed. Defending the higher cost compared to metro projects, Shivakumar clarified, "The DPR cost for Tunnel Road was more compared to Metro was due to increase in diameter and length and present-day situation." He detailed that the 14-meter-wide tunnel would accommodate three lanes plus an emergency lane, becoming India's longest upon completion at Rs 770 crore per km. The Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model will see the state contributing 40% and private agencies 60%, with Rs 800 crore allocated for land acquisition. CM says 9,000 hectares of forest land to be planted with trees
1 2 Shimla: The state govt this year aims to plant trees on around 9,000 hectares of forest land under different schemes, out of which 60% of the saplings would bear fruits. Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu shared this information while inaugurating the 76th state-level Van-Mahotsav at the Kanlog area in Shimla on Thursday. He also planted a deodar sapling during the event and launched the Rajiv Gandhi Van Samvardhan Yojna across all assembly constituencies. He virtually interacted with ministers and MLAs participating in the programme, besides discussing forest conservation and afforestation measures. The state govt is working to protect and enrich the rich biodiversity of the state, and these efforts would contribute to achieving the target of increasing forest cover by 30% by 2030, he added. Sukhu stated that the Rajiv Gandhi Van Samvardhan Yojna would not only promote forest development but also enhance public participation and strengthen the rural economy. Under this scheme, mahila mandals, yuvak mandals, self-help groups, and joint forest committees would plant and look after saplings on one to five hectares of designated forest land for five years. Sukhu stated that the forest department officers are being encouraged to dedicate more time to fieldwork related to forest expansion and conservation rather than office routines. He also handed over cheques of rupees one lakh each to different mahila mandals for tree plantation under the Rajiv Gandhi Van Samvardhan Yojna. Apart from this, cheques of Rs 50,000 each have also been distributed under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) project to the beneficiaries for livelihood.
