Toto Wolff eats same thing every day as Mercedes F1 boss explains peculiar habit
Toto Wolff is a man with an eye for detail – and the Austrian has an extraordinary daily routine that's as regimented as his Mercedes team's race strategies. The 53-year-old, who steered his squad to eight constructors' championships on the trot, is a stickler for routine.
And that is even the case when it comes to his diet. In a revealing interview with the BBC, Wolff once shared the lengths he goes to in order to maintain focus during the gruelling F1 calendar, which these days spans March to December and features 24 Grand Prix weekends, six of which have a second, shorter Sprint race.
He told the Desert Island Discs radio programme: "For me it is really reducing trivial things. I am wearing the same clothes, I am eating the same food – even to the point that my assistants book the same hotel room for me every single year."
Wolff's dedication to simplicity extends to his breakfast choice, where he opts for "the same dark bread, pumpernickel with butter and some ham." But it doesn't stop there – his coffee ritual and meal plan are just as meticulous.
He elaborated: "Small cappuccino, because I take half a cappuccino because I want to have another half an hour later, and then it is chicken breast with tomato salad [for lunch]. And I have the same for dinner also."
He repeated the same dietary routine to Forbes last year, stating that he sticks to the same meal twice a day to avoid upsetting his system. The executive prefers to concentrate on his team's performance, which has been trailing behind McLaren and Ferrari this season.
Wolff also has the responsibility of securing Mercedes' drivers for the upcoming season, with the contracts of both team leader George Russell and 18-year-old rookie Kimi Antonelli expiring at the end of the year as it stands, though both drivers are expected to sign renewals.
Despite Wolff's dedication to excellence both personally and within Mercedes, the Brackley-based team has been lagging behind their rivals in recent seasons, since changes in the car regulations in 2021. Red Bull adapted fastest and were the ones to knock the Silver Arrows off their perch.

However, McLaren, led on track by drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, have since stepped up to the plate. The Woking-based outfit has been dominant this year in its quest for back-to-back constructors' titles while one of Norris or Piastri will surely become the drivers' champion for the first time.
Mercedes hope to make a comeback in 2026 by getting a boost through another change in regulations, which will see new engines introduced into F1. They last time that happened was in 2014, when they built by far the best power unit and used that as a platform for their eight-in-a-row streak in the constructors'.

Daniel Ricciardo reveals the VERY surprising things he refuses to keep in his house - even though they're very close to his heart
Aussie superstar Daniel Ricciardo achieved 8 Formula 1 Grand Prix wins and 32 podium finishes during his 13-year career - but his house is devoid of racing mementos and memorabilia. Ricciardo was let go by Racing Bulls after the 2024 Singapore GP, with Red Bull's advisor Helmut Marko explaining that the Aussie was no longer showing the 'killer instinct' he had displayed earlier in his racing career. The 36-year-old is now enjoying time away from the sport and has revealed that he doesn't like to be reminded of his many racing achievements while at home. 'It's funny, I don't really like having my racing stuff in my house,' Ricciardo told Mel McLaughlin at Ray White's Connect Conference on Monday. 'If my parents have some of me in their house, that's fine. 'I'm still quite shy with some of the achievements.' The beloved Aussie also joked about why he was now sporting a thick beard. 'Well, I haven't been shaving my face,' he said. 'The beard is my comfort right now. 'I had a fallout with my barber and then I lost my razor. It's been a tough six months.' Ricciardo bid farewell to what he described as a 'wild and wonderful' career, having become one of the most popular drivers in the sport. But like many athletes, stepping away from the fast-paced, rock and roll lifestyle that is professional sport, Ricciardo explained he struggled to adjust to life away from the glitz and glamour of Formula One. 'I've lived this crazy, high-speed life for so long, and I just sat into a little bit of stillness,' Ricciardo explained. 'I suddenly wasn't always surrounded by a ton of people giving their opinions and thoughts.' After the rigours of being a professional racing driver had encompassed his life for so long, Ricciardo explained he was now doing a bit of soul searching in order to understand who he truly was, while also admitting he was learning to become more magnanimous. 'I've had a lot of time, I've done some hiking. I was in Alaska a few weeks ago and didn't get mauled by a grizzly which was a bonus. 'I've been trying to figure out who I am other than this race car driver. 'I've come to appreciate the little things more and the meaning of the importance of family and friends. 'I've always been driven, and that sometimes leads you to being selfish, so I'm trying to learn to be a bit more selfless and become a better listener.' Ricciardo cut a philosophical figure as the Australian also delved into his sacking. As yet, Ricciardo has not opened up on his plans for the future. Since his departure from AlphaTauri there has been speculation that he might step back into racing in some capacity. However, it appears he is resigned to the fact that his time in Formula One has ended. While he never got to become a world champion, the ever-humble Australian spoke of his pride at his achievements in the sport. 'I never thought I would have this career. I never thought I'd be here, you know? That's the truth,' he explained. 'Yes, my dream was to be world champion, and there were years along the way where I genuinely felt like it was gonna happen. 'I got close, that's OK. 'If I were a world champion sitting here today, would it change how I feel or how I view myself, or anything like that? I don't think so. 'Maybe my ego would be big. We don't want that. I have no regrets.'

Rangers to face Club Brugge in £40million Champions League shootout as stunning comeback sinks Salzburg
Just one more hurdle stands between the Light Blues and the lucrative league phase and it's a familiar opponent Rangers will face Club Brugge in the playoff round of the Champions League after the Belgians played out a right humdinger of a tie with Red Bull Salzburg. Russell Martin's men defeated Viktoria Plzen 4-2 over two legs to book their place in the final qualification round and their slightly earlier kick-off time saw them await the result from Bruges to see just who they will take on later this month. Gers had won 3-0 at Ibrox last week but fell to a 2-1 loss in the Czech Republic with Lyall Cameron opening his account for the club with a consolation strike. Brugge - who played Celtic in the Champions League last season - went into the return fixture at home with a narrow one goal advantage from the first leg in the Austrian capital last week. But the outcome of the tie was then swung on it's head when Salzburg raced into a 2-0 lead within the first 45 minutes courtesy of goal from Jacob Rassmussen and Edmund Baidoo. However, the Belgian Pro League outfit regained control after the break and struck twice to win the tie 3-2 on aggregate. Joaquin Seys made it 2-1 on 61 minutes before Carlos Forbs netted the crucial goal seven minutes from time to set up a showdown with Rangers next week. The Light Blues will welcome Bruges to Ibrox on August 19/20 before making the trip to Belgium a week later on August 26/27. Rangers were given the opportunity to have extra preparation time in between the two ties, as part of a new SPFL scheme to help Scottish teams trying to qualify for European competition. They had initially lodged a request to the Premiership's governing body to postpone the league clash with St Mirren in Paisley on Sunday, August 24. But earlier on Tuesday, the Ibrox giants confirmed that they have now withdrawn that appeal, with the Gers happy to make the trip to Paisley in between the vital showdowns with Brugge. The winner of the two ties could land a £40million jackpot in the promise land of the Champions League, which was revamped into an eight-game league format from the traditional group stage formula at the start of last season. Rangers and Brugge have already met this season, with the Scots coming back from 2-0 down to claim a share of the spoils in a friendly encounter at Ibrox last month. Rangers discover Champions League play-off opponents after seeing off Viktoria Plzen
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) RANGERS are just one tie away from securing their place in the main phase of the Champions League. It's been an up and down start to Russell Martin's campaign so far having failed to win either of his first two domestic games in charge. Sign up for the Rangers newsletter Sign up 2 Rangers are through to the Champions League play-off Credit: Getty 2 Lyall Cameron scored in Czech Republic to keep their Champions League dreams alive Credit: Getty The same can't be said for the team's European exploits, though, as the Light Blues have now seen off Panathinaikos and Viktoria Plzen to progress to the play-off - their third and final qualifier for the competition. Rangers were in the driving seat for the second leg in Czech Republic after beating Plzen 3-0 at Ibrox last week. And they got the job done tonight away from home - despite losing on the night. Plzen opened the scoring in the first leg through Rafiu Durosinmi and pressure was beginning to mount on the visitors in the second half - until Lyall Cameron found the net on the hour mark. The former Dundee man scored his first goal for the club - and what a time it was to get off the mark as he eased Rangers' nerves. The hosts then scored again to put themselves back in front through Svetozar Markovic with less than 10 minutes left to play, but didn't have enough time to turn the tie around. That meant it was Rangers who progressed as they move one step closer to reaching the league phase. Rangers were already aware that they'd face one of two teams in the play-off after the draw was made earlier this month. It was decided that the Light Blues would face a tricky tie either way against Club Brugge or Red Bull Salzburg. It was always going to be a tough clash, but they avoided arguably the trickiest outcome - with Benfica a potential option for the Govan side. When Ross McCausland knew it was time to leave Rangers and why he's been blown away by his REPLACEMENTS Now Rangers have discovered exactly who they'll face in the next round. Martin's men will travel to Belgium later this month after Club Brugge got the better of Red Bull Salzburg over two legs. Club Brugge were the favourites to progress after they beat Salzburg 1-0 in the first leg away from home. But it was the Austrian side who took the driving seat in the return leg as they raced two goals in front in the first half. Goals from Jacob Rasmussen and Edmund Baidoo gave them the lead in the tie - until Brugge pulled it back in the second half. The hosts on the night came on top in the end with a 4-2 aggregate win after Joaquin Seys, Carlos Forbs and Hans Vanaken found the net. The first leg will be played at Ibrox on Tuesday, August 19, with the return leg scheduled for the following Wednesday, August 27 in Belgium.
