Why Did Inter Miami Sign Rodrigo de Paul? David Beckham Explains

Last Updated: David Beckham has lauded Rodrigo de Paul as a leader and key addition to Inter Miami. Former England footballer and Inter Miami owner David Beckham has said that Argentina midfielder Rodrigo de Paul is a player that he has admired for a long time and as a leader, he has contributed well to the teams he has played for, and hence, he brought him into Inter Miami. Speaking to the media on Saturday, July 26, Beckham opened up on De Paul's move to Inter Miami, saying that he would be a crucial footballer for the team. Miami, meanwhile, used the pre-game festivities to unveil new star signing De Paul, Lionel Messi's World Cup-winning Argentina team-mate. 'He brings experience, passion and quality to the team. Rodrigo is a player I've admired for many years. As a leader, he's contributed greatly to the teams he's played for, especially his national team, Argentina," Beckham said. De Paul said that he is keen on competing for trophies, acknowledging that the Inter Miami management was building a special side. 'What brings me to Inter Miami is the desire to compete, win titles, to write the pages in the club's history. It's a club that is shaping up to be great, to have a long history, so that many people follow this incredible team," De Paul said. The 31-year-old left Atlético Madrid, where he's played for the last four years, for Major League Soccer on a short-term contract with Inter Miami that could lead to a multiyear deal. De Paul and national team buddy Messi hope to continue to elevate Inter Miami, which has reached historic heights since Messi arrived two years ago. The Herons reached the knockouts of the Club World Cup and have won their past five Major Soccer League games as they eye a second straight Supporters' Shield. The deal, which has been in the works for multiple weeks, comes as negotiations between Messi and Inter Miami on a contract extension remain ongoing. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 'A Weekend To Forget But...': Lewis Hamilton Leaves Spa-Francorchamps On High

Last Updated: Lewis Hamilton finished seventh at Belgian Grand Prix after starting from pit lane and praised team's strategy and pit stop execution. Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has said that although the Belgian Grand Prix weekend was one to forget, he would take a lot of positives from the Ferrari on Sunday, July 27, when he finished a creditable seventh after starting way below in the race. Four drivers began from the pit lane, Carlos Sainz, Fernando Alonso, Kimi Antonelli and Hamilton, having made changes to their power units or set-up overnight. They started at the rear of the field ahead of the rolling start at the start of lap 5 but that was a big strategic call that bore fruit. Alex Albon clung on to finish sixth for Williams ahead of chasing Hamilton of Ferrari, who began from the pit lane and Racing Bulls' rookie Liam Lawson. 'Today's race was a positive step forward. The strategy and pit stop were executed perfectly and the overnight changes we made to the setup allowed me to get the most out of the car," Hamilton said while speaking to Formula One's website. 'I felt much more comfortable behind the wheel and I'm pleased with how everything came together," Hamilton added. On lap 12, Hamilton was the first in for medium slick tyres, rejoining 18th, followed by Oscar Piastri, Leclerc, Max Verstappen, Andre Russell and more. Lando Norris stayed out one lap longer for hards, hoping to profit if his rival's rubber degraded in the closing laps. The only pit stop, executed in just 2.2 seconds, was one of the fastest of the day. By lap 15, everyone else had switched to mediums and it was Piastri on top ahead of Norris by 9.3 with Leclerc third, leading Verstappen, Russell, Albon and in flying form, Hamilton. Piastri went on to win the race, with Norris second and Leclerc third. World champion Verstappen finished fourth. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive. 'Gautam Gambhir needs to take a chill pill': India coach can't stand a word against Shubman Gill, told to 'take it easy'

Sanjay Manjrekar took a light-hearted jab at Gautam Gambhir, as he said that India's head coach should perhaps take a 'chill pill' when responding to questions about player criticism during press conferences. After the fourth Test, Gambhir didn't hold back while responding to those doubting Shubman Gill's abilities as captain, delivering a typically direct response in defence of the young skipper. Those who had doubts, they only know how to speak cricket, not understand it," Gambhir said in the press conference. Shubman was under the scanner before the start of the series as he was appointed the Test skipper despite not proving his red-ball batting credentials. However, the 25-year-old shut his critics with a series to remember as a batter by scoring over 700 runs. Manjrekar asserted that certain questions get under Gambhir's skin and pointed out that doubting Shubman Gill is also one of them. "Gambhir was exactly like it, he's always been, and yeah, you can see that there are certain questions that get under his skin about people doubting Shubman Gill as a young captain and batter, and those are valid doubts," Manjrekar said on JioHotstar after the match. The former cricketer urged Gambhir to perceive the divide between critics and him as he reminded the head coach that everyone involved ultimately wants the best for Indian cricket. "I mean, people who understand cricket also wonder whether it's the right time to get that opportunity, and I hope he can just understand that better, and it's never you guys think and we guys think we are all part of the same industry and the country as well," he added. 'Gambhir should encourage questions that are tough' He further told Gambhir to develop the ability to encourage tough questions in press conferences, suggesting he should not take criticism too personally and approach such moments with a lighter attitude. "So I just want him to sort of take a chill pill sometimes and just take it easy and answer questions and encourage questions that are tough, and I don't know whether that's likely to happen. I'd like to see at some stage Gautam Gambhir having that quality," he concluded.
