PETRONAS-Petros deal to be inked shortly, says Abang Jo
The Sarawak Premier said this was expected to take place soon.
"Just wait in the next two days, there will be a document on the agreement between me and the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim)," he told reporters after launching the International Construction Week Borneo conference here on Tuesday (May 13).

Abang Johari said the agreement would include recognising both Federal and state laws besides acknowledging Petros as the sole gas aggregator in Sarawak.
"There will also be a commercial agreement which includes increasing our stake in LNG (liquefied natural gas)," he said.
Abang Johari was asked to comment on his meeting with Anwar on Friday (May 9).
In a statement, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said the Federal and Sarawak governments had reached a consensus on all issues involving PETRONAS and Petros through negotiations during the meeting, which included top officials from both petroleum companies.
The statement also said Anwar and Abang Johari agreed to finalise issues based on previously agreed principles to facilitate negotiations between PETRONAS and Petros.

This will ensure that any potential identified from a PETRONAS-Petros collaboration can be fully explored and implemented effectively, it said.
Previously, PETRONAS confirmed that its subsidiary Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) had received notices on April 30 from the Sarawak Utility and Telecommunication Ministry concerning gas processing and distribution.
The national oil firm told Bernama that PCSB is statutorily authorised under the Petroleum Development Act 1974 to undertake the company's activities and comply with all applicable laws in doing so.
The two firms, as well as the Federal and state governments, have been engaged in negotiations over Petros' role as Sarawak's gas aggregator.

RM75m for civil servants pursuing higher education
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a RM75 million financial incentive for civil servants who pursue higher education, including those furthering their doctorate studies using self-funded means. He said the amount would benefit more than 91,000 civil servants in the management, professional and support groups. He said those pursuing PhD studies would receive RM1,250, master's degree RM1,000, bachelor's degree RM750 and diploma or equivalent level RM500. He added that the assistance is aimed at easing the burden of civil servants who are upgrading their academic qualifications. 'Imagine studying on your own, reducing your wife's allowance just to pay for tuition. So, we're offering this small token of appreciation, although the budget involves RM75.7 million. 'At least once during their service we want to show that we encourage civil servants to improve themselves through their own efforts and initiative,' he said at the 20th Premier Civil Service Address yesterday. Anwar announced an allocation of RM3 million to strengthen the National Institute of Public Administration as a centre of reference for public service excellence in Asia and globally. He also announced the continuation of the APEL.Q @ Intan initiative for 2026, with a budget allocation of RM1.5 million. This initiative will cover tuition support for the APEL.Q Programme, providing up to 50% or a maximum of RM15,000 in tuition fee assistance, depending on which amount is lower.

PM warns those who create disharmony
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has emphasised that firm action will be taken against any party that raises issues affecting national harmony. He said there were various negative issues recently involving sovereignty, religion, culture, health, bullying and student deaths. He added that there must be a united stance among the authorities and the public to acknowledge that such matters could damage the country. 'This cannot be resolved merely through policy announcements or enforcement. There must be public awareness that a country with a vibrant economy cannot survive if its foundation of values and culture is crumbling. 'That's why in a Madani nation, apart from emphasising vibrant and dynamic growth, the cornerstone must be values. 'Are we to take pride only in the amount of investments and economic momentum, in a thriving stock exchange, but ignore societal culture, morals and values?' He was speaking at the 20th Premier Civil Service Address, with the theme 'Madani Public Service: Pillar of Excellence', held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre yesterday. Present were Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar as well Cuepacs president Datuk Adnan Mat. He added that anyone in authority who fails to uphold his responsibilities in safeguarding the nation's peace should be replaced with individuals who are principled and courageous enough to act. 'This is not about gaining popularity or appealing to the public. This is about saving the nation.' Without directly referring to the bloody May 13 racial riots, Anwar reminded the public that Malaysia had gone through dark periods of internal strife. 'And this time it might start small, with issues like the flag and the spread of fake news.' Anwar also urged the public not to make wild speculations about Zara Qairina's death. 'Let the authorities conduct the investigation. It's barely begun and already fingers are being pointed, linking it to VVIPs. 'We might as well close down all police stations if people can jump to conclusions without an investigation.'

Extreme attitudes and arrogance as well as discriminatory behaviour based on race, lineage or skin colour, must be stopped immediately, the Prime Minister declared, adding that he has directed government agencies to take firm action. 'I have given clear instructions to enforcement bodies: if there are any elements – whether prominent figures, politicians, community leaders or ordinary citizens – engaged in threats or incitement, take action. 'The country's safety and peace must be preserved, regardless of race, religion, wealth or status.' Recent incidents, including cases of racial and religious tensions, bullying in schools and workplaces, and the deaths of students, have all been worrying. These instances, he said, must be properly addressed by enforcement bodies, educators, parents and the public. 'This is not something that can be solved through policy announcements or enforcement alone. 'It must come from the people's awareness that we are building a nation with strong economic growth alongside high moral values,' Anwar said in his speech at the 20th Civil Service Premier Assembly here yesterday. Citing as examples the death of schoolgirl Zara Qairina Mahathir in Sabah and the improper handling of the national flag, he warned against exploiting such issues to inflame political sentiments. Anwar also underscored the need for investigations to be conducted promptly, transparently and fairly, without public prejudgment. 'If you follow the law and are willing to act, you can keep your position. 'If you can't, we will replace you with someone principled and courageous. 'This is not a popularity contest. This is about saving the nation,' he added. The Prime Minister warned against both the 'tyranny of the majority' and the 'tyranny of the minority,' reiterating his government's policy of zero tolerance of racism and religious bigotry. He said Malaysia's reputation as a peaceful nation capable of contributing to regional and international peace efforts depends on upholding justice and the rule of law.
