AAP's plan to stagger the acquisition process signals a retreat: Bajwa

Time of Indiaa day ago
Chandigarh: The leader of opposition (LoP) in Punjab assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, on Saturday said the recent decision of the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab govt to stagger the acquisition process under its land pooling policy clearly signalled a retreat from its original stance.
Bajwa claimed that at least for now, the AAP govt was planning to stagger the acquisition process under its land pooling policy, confining it to areas surrounding major cities, such as Ludhiana, Patiala, and Mohali. This shift clearly demonstrates a significant reversal in the govt's approach to the policy, he said.
"The govt has faced fierce opposition from farmers and the opposition parties, including the Punjab Congress, since Day 1.
The entry of the AAP leaders was banned in some villages. The farmers recently took out a successful tractor march against the policy. The AAP leaders, legislators, and MPs like Dinesh Chadha and Malvinder Singh Kang actively stood up for the farmers," said the Congress leader.
Bajwa announced that the protests against the AAP govt were set to intensify significantly in the days ahead. "We are determined to force the govt to withdraw the notification regarding the controversial land pooling policy. This decision affects countless farmers, and we believe they may soon receive some positive news," the Qadian MLA said while emphasising the urgency of the issue.
The senior leader further expressed concerns over the AAP govt's alleged hidden agendas aimed at settling non-Punjabis in the state. He said the Punjab Congress would not allow this.

Dombivli church leads rally against ‘injustice to minorities'

Mumbai: The parishioners of Immaculate Conception Church, Dombivli (E), organised a peaceful rally Sunday to protest against "injustices faced by religious minorities", particularly the recent arrest of two nuns from Chhattisgarh. They raised slogans and banners saying 'Stand For Justice' and 'Prayer Is our Power'. Parish priest Rev. Vicar Fr Sebastian Mudakkalil said, "The recent increase in attacks on minorities is a cause of great concern. We condemn such atrocities and express solidarity with the victims. While appreciating the efforts taken by the govt, we request authorities to take special efforts to protect the peace-loving Christian community from religious extremists who are abusing and misusing religious laws against Christians." In UP, every deserving person gets a chance, say new recruits

Lucknow: Dubbing their appointment process as transparent, timely, and free from political or financial interference, the 1,374 assistant operators and 120 workshop employees who joined the UP police telecommunications department expressed gratitude to CM Yogi Adityanath for restoring faith in govt recruitments. "This opportunity is the result of a fair process that values merit. I feel proud," said Sandhya Singh of Shahjahanpur, who was appointed as an assistant operator. Brajesh Kumar Valmiki Daliganj from Lucknow, echoed the sentiment, calling the recruitment "a symbol of fairness". He credited his success entirely to hard work, adding that under CM Yogi's leadership, merit took precedence over connections or influence. Vaishali Gupta from Krishna Nagar, Lucknow, said, "This govt has proved that in today's Uttar Pradesh, no effort goes to waste. Every deserving person gets a chance." Kanchan Saini of Muzaffarnagar, already a woman constable, described her second appointment as a "double achievement." "Both times, I got selected without any pressure, recommendation, or bribe. This is true youth empowerment," she said. From Saharanpur, Anjum Parveen called the moment of receiving her appointment letter from the Chief Minister "emotional and proud." She added, "The entire recruitment reflects how far Uttar Pradesh has come under this govt in ensuring fairness and opportunity." Bhupendra Singh from Aligarh, selected as a workshop employee, called the appointment a dream come true after years of hard work. "This is possible only because the state govt removed corruption and nepotism from the system," he said. HC overturns MPCA's dissolution of Jabalpur cricket assn

Bhopal/Jabalpur: The MP high court has set aside an order of the MP Cricket Association (MPCA) dissolving the executive of the Jabalpur District Cricket Association (JDCA) and recognising a new body in its place. A division bench of chief justice Sanjeev Sachdeva and justice Vinay Saraf also quashed the MPCA's directive blocking the JDCA's restoration, but allowed intervener in the case Surendra Verma the liberty to initiate fresh proceedings against the JDCA. Senior lawyers Shashank Shekhar and Samresh Katare, while appearing on behalf of JDCA, said the district cricket association was constituted in 1999. Surendra Verma was its joint secretary till 2006. In 2006, a new executive of JDCA came into existence. Registrar, firms & societies asked for information on the annual general meeting of the body. Since the previous executive had not furnished information for 2004 to 2006, the new GDCA executive failed to provide complete information sought by the registrar. The registrar subsequently dissolved JDCA in 2013. After all the desired information was provided to the office of the registrar, the JDCA executive was restored in 2014. Verma had moved the court challenging the registrar's order to restore the JDCA executive. A single-judge bench had quashed the order of the registrar on the ground that information was provided to the registrar by the JDCA late. The JDCA had challenged the order before a HC division bench, which overturned the order of the HC single bench.
