
US Kellogg's cereal similar to axed favourite spotted in major UK supermarket
Kellogg's cereals are a staple in many households. Offering everything for adults and kids, it's difficult to find one that we don't like.
One that is popular in the US has travelled across the pond to the UK for the first time, and it is being compared to a fan-favourite that was axed from shelves over a decade ago.
Shoppers have spotted the brand's packs of Kellogg's Smacks on shelves at a Morrisons supermarket, with a 330g box being priced at £2.50.
A classic in the States, the puff wheat cereal boasts a classic crunchy texture and a honey-sweet taste. Since it is already sweetened, it does not need any extra sugar added for taste.
However, on the Facebook Group Snack Reviews, where it was first posted last week, members have commented it seems as though it will taste very similar to Sugar Puffs that underwent an overhaul in 2014.
Sharing their thoughts, one member said: "Basically Sugar Puffs then lol." Another agreed: "Definitely Sugar Puffs!!"
Echoing the same sentiment, a third wrote: "They'll always be Sugar Puffs to me. They're puffed wheat and sugar."
Even better, Morrisons has confirmed to the Daily Record that the US Kellogg's cereal can be found in 300 stores for the next two weeks. After a fortnight, they will be rolled out to all 419.
Speaking of the cereal's appearance in UK stores, spokesperson for Kellanova, the company which owns Kellogg's, said: ''As shoppers have started to notice, our Smacks cereal is back for a limited time only.
"On shelves in a select number of stores, the treat cereal is only making a brief return and once it's gone, it's gone!''
Sugar Puffs, made by Quaker Oats, was a popular UK cereal that first launched in 1957, although it was pulled off shelves and had to be rebranded in 2014 as Honey Monster Puffs.
It came after the cereal underwent a recipe change after the government began to crack down on the sugar content of food products that were marketed towards children.
The new recipe was adjusted to reduce the sugar content by 8 per cent and increase the honey content by 20 per cent compared to the original cereal.
News of the cereal being spotted at Morrisons in the UK comes after Mars Wrigley brought back the nostalgic White Maltesers to stores earlier this year for the first time in 11 years.
Axed back in 2014, the white chocolate version of the airy and crunchy chocolate bites officially made their comeback to supermarkets and retailers from June 16.
That's not all, as the beloved Milky Way Crispy Rolls, which were discontinued in 2022, officially returned to store shelves in February, with two new flavours now available - Bounty and Twix.
Kellogg's Smacks (330g) are now available in 300 Morrisons stores for the next two weeks before being rolled out to all 419.

Bank holidays often result in three-day weekends for a majority of Brits, with many keen to do something nice to mark the end of the summer holidays. For those who have planned out their long weekend, it's useful to note any changes to store opening times just in case. Here's a breakdown of the opening and closing times of supermarkets you know and love this bank holiday Monday. Tesco On August 25, the majority of larger Tesco stores in England and Wales will open from 8am until 6pm. Tesco Express usually remain open from 6am to 11pm, or midnight, however, the majority of bigger Tesco Express stores in England and Wales will open from 8am until 6pm on the bank holiday. Sainsbury's Whilst larger Sainsbury's stores open between 7am and 8am, and close around 10pm and 11pm, from Monday to Saturday, their Sundays remain shorter with hours of 10am to 4pm in England and Wales. Note that Scotland stores have longer Sunday hours due to different trading laws. However, on August 25, Aldi has confirmed its closing time as an earlier 8pm. Scotland stores stay open later on Sundays, with their store closing times remaining the same on the Monday. Lidl Lidl. branches' times vary between stores, with some opening slightly later at 8am. The budget-friendly stores appear to be closing at the same time of 10pm. The Mirror advises shoppers to search up their store on Lidl's store locator before Monday, as hours may differ between locations. Waitrose Waitrose 's opening hours carry a huge difference from shop to shop, with some branches opening as early as 7am, while others waiting until 9am. As usual, shops will be open this weekend. The majority of larger Morrisons stores open at either 6am or 7am and shut at 10pm, Monday to Saturday. Then on Sundays, shops in England and Wales are typically open from 10am until 4pm. But this bank holiday Monday (August 25) the majority of larger Morrisons stores will close slightly earlier at 8pm. There are different trading rules in Scotland, where Morrisons stores will be open as normal this bank holiday Monday. Morrisons smaller convenience stores, known as Morrisons Daily, have varying opening times, but they typically open at 6am and close normally between 6pm and 11pm, depending on your location. There will be no changes to Morrisons Daily opening times this Monday. It is advised that you check the opening times of your nearest store on the Morrisons website. It comes after the supermarket closed 17 of its Morrisons Daily stores this spring as part of its major restructure plans. The supermarket also announced plans to shut 52 of its in-store cafés, all 18 of its market kitchens, 13 florists, 35 meat counters, 35 fish counters and four pharmacies Morrisons said a "wide-ranging review" found these services were not cost-effective. 'In most locations the Morrisons Café has a bright future, but a minority have specific local challenges and in those locations, regrettably, closure and re-allocation of the space is the only sensible option. 'Market Street is a beacon of differentiation for Morrisons and we remain committed to it. But as we modernise we are making some necessary changes to the areas of the model which are simply uneconomic. 'In some stores where we are closing counters or Cafés, we plan to work with third parties to provide a relevant specialist offer. Although these changes are relatively small in the context of the overall scale of the Morrisons business, we do not take lightly the disruption and uncertainty they will cause to some of our colleagues.'
