Sub-Inspector booked under POCSO Act in Nungambakkam
The girl is nine year old and studying ninth standard. She went missing from her house in Vaikundapuram Sunday evening. She was untraceable despite the parents frantically searching everywhere for three hours. The relatives of the parents learnt that the girl was at a house of sub-inspector attached with Armed police in the neighbourhood and then they rescued her from the house. Reportedly she was under sedation. When the relatives of the parents enquired the inmates of the house on why she was in sedation, the latter did not reply properly.
Hence at midnight, the relatives of parents laid siege to the house of sub-inspector demanding action against him besides alleging sexual assault on him. Tension prevailed as two sides were about to clash. Upon receipt of the information, Nungambakkam Police reached the spot and pacificied agitating crowd.
Nungambakkam Police received a complaint from the parents and investigated the case. The girl reportedly told the police after she went unconscious at 6 pm and later was unaware of what happened to her. Sources said she had been administered a sedative and was unconscious.
Following investigation, the sub-inspector Raju, 45 was booked under Sections- 9(m)( whoever commits sexual assault on a child below twelve years) and 10 (Punishment of Aggravated Sexual assault) of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Jul 02, 2025 09:50 AM IST MUMBAI: The Nagpur bench of Bombay high court on Monday acquitted a 27-year-old man accused of sexually harassing a minor girl in 2015, observing that he could not be convicted for merely saying 'I love you' to the girl and holding her hand. Simply saying 'I love you' to a minor girl does not amount to sexual harassment: HC The incident dates back to October 2017 in Nagpur when the 17-year-old girl was walking back home from her college. The accused, who was also aged 17, allegedly approached her on a motorcycle, held her hand and said 'I love you'. Based on her complaint, the police registered an FIR against the accused. A sessions court had convicted the man under Section 354A (sexual harassment) and 354D (stalking) of the Indian Penal Code as well as Section 8 (sexual harassment) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. A single-judge bench of justice Urmila Joshi-Phalke heard a petition filed by the accused in 2017 challenging his conviction by an additional sessions judge in Nagpur. The man claimed that he was booked due to previous enmity between the duo and that there was no witness to the incident. He further claimed that the charges put up against him were also not established as there was no evidence to show he had followed her and forced personal interaction despite a clear indication of disinterest from her. Taking this into account, the high court set aside his conviction noting that the prosecution could not prove the 'sexual intent' of the accused and said that merely expressing his feelings saying 'I love you' and holding her hand does not amount to sexual harassment.

Calcutta HC orders Shami monthly payment of Rs 4 lakh as maintenance to estranged wife, daughter
KOLKATA: Calcutta High Court directed Indian pacer Mohammed Shami to pay his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan, and daughter a monthly alimony of Rs 4 lakh as maintenance during the ongoing legal battle with his spouse. Jahan had moved the high court against a district sessions court's order directing the cricketer to pay Rs 50,000 to his wife and Rs 80,000 to her daughter in 2023. "In my considered opinion, a sum of Rs 1,50,000 per month to the petitioner no.1 (wife) and Rs 2,50,000 to her daughter would be just fair and reasonable to ensure financial stability for both the petitioners, till disposal of the main application," the order passed by Justice Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee on Tuesday stated. "However as regards petitioner's child the husband /opposite party No 2 will always be at liberty to voluntarily assist her with educational and/or other reasonable expenses, over and above the aforesaid amount," the order added. Jahan had lodged an FIR at the Jadavpur police station against Shami and his family in March 2018, four years after their marriage in April 2014, alleging "enormous physical and mental torture" under Section 12 of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violation (PWDV) Act, 2005 and "sustained indifference and neglect" of her minor daughter. Besides domestic violence, she also accused Shami of dowry harassment and match-fixing while alleging that Shami had stopped shouldering financial responsibility for running her family expenses.

Ludhiana: Woman arrested for forcing teen into prostitution, hubby on run

The woman along with her husband exploited the minor for three months before the victim found a chance to escape from the house of the couple when they went for a foreign trip. The police are trying to trace the accused who raped the victim. (HT photo for representation) In her complaint the victim stated that her mother had dropped her at the house of the couple asking them to find a suitable job for her. The victim stated that days later the accused forced her to establish physical relation with a man, whom she did not know. When she resisted the man raped her. Days later, the accused forced her to establish physical relations with another unidentified man. The man raped her when she refused. According to the victim the ordeal continued for three months. A number of men raped her and the accused threatened her to keep mum. Further she added that in the last week of June the accused couple went on a foreign trip. The victim, with the help of her sister, contacted the police and filed a complaint. The Sadar Police lodged an FIR against the couple and arrested the woman - identified as Naina of Rajan Enclave. Her husband Sushil is yet to be arrested. Sub-inspector Tammana Devi, who is investigating the case, stated that the couple sexually exploited the girl. Though the husband of the woman has not exploited the girl, he supported his wife in exploiting the victim. The SI added that an FIR under Sections 65 (1) (rape), 61 (1) (criminal conspiracy) of BNS, sections 6 and 17 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been lodged against the couple. The police are also trying to trace the accused who raped the victim.
