Israel's internal security agency, Shin Bet (Shabak), has announced the arrest of an Israeli woman accused of conspiring with others to assassinate Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu using an explosive device, according to Alqahera News.
The woman, whose identity has not yet been made public, is reportedly a resident of central Israel. She is currently under investigation for her alleged involvement in planning a terrorist act targeting Netanyahu.
According to Israeli public broadcaster Kan, a formal indictment is expected to be filed against the suspect on Wednesday. The charges include conspiracy to commit a terrorist act and attempted assassination.

Trump escalates trade war with Canada over Palestinian stance

Basant Ahmed President Donald Trump intensified his trade war with Canada, a day ahead of his August 1 deadline for a tariff agreement, saying it would be "very hard" to make a deal with Canada after it gave its support to Palestine statehood. Trump is set to impose a 35% tariff on all Canadian goods not covered by the U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade agreement if the two countries do not reach an agreement by the deadline. "Wow! Canada has just announced that it is backing statehood for Palestine. That will make it very hard for us to make a Trade Deal with them," Trump said on Truth Social. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney previously said tariff negotiations with Washington had been constructive, but the talks may not conclude by the deadline. Talks between the two countries were at an intense phase, he added, but a deal that would remove all U.S. tariffs was unlikely. Canada is the second-largest U.S. trading partner after Mexico, and the largest buyer of U.S. exports. It bought $349.4 billion of U.S. goods last year and exported $412.7 billion to the U.S., according to U.S. Census Bureau data. Canada is also the top supplier of steel and aluminum to the United States, and faces tariffs on both metals as well as on vehicle exports. Last month, Carney's government scrapped a planned digital services tax targeting U.S. technology firms after Trump abruptly called off trade talks saying the tax was a "blatant attack." Carney followed France and Britain as he said on Wednesday that his country was planning to recognize the State of Palestine at a meeting of the United Nations in September. In announcing the decision, Carney spoke of the reality on the ground, including starvation in Gaza. "Canada condemns the fact that the Israeli government has allowed a catastrophe to unfold in Gaza," he said. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results

Video of Iconic Algerian Statue 'Ain El Fouara' Being Vandalized Sparks Public Controversy

Taarek Refaat A shocking act of vandalism has reignited debate in Algeria after a man was caught on video damaging the country's most famous public statue, the 'Ain El Fouara' fountain in downtown Setif. Security forces quickly intervened to stop the man and arrested him on-site. Footage circulating widely online shows the individual climbing the fountain and smashing part of the statue's face before officers pulled him down amid resistance. Eyewitnesses gathered around the square, expressing a mix of outrage and support, with some residents condemning the act as cultural destruction, while others framed it as a form of protest against the colonial-era artwork. The Ain El Fouara statue, depicting a woman from Setif, was created by French sculptor Francis de Saint-Vidal and first unveiled in 1898. Originally displayed at the Louvre Museum to mark the 10th anniversary of the Eiffel Tower, the statue was later gifted to Setif by the city's French military governor, where it was mounted atop a fountain with four water outlets. Over its 127-year history, the statue has been repeatedly targeted. In 1997, a bomb placed beneath the monument shattered it completely, but it was restored within 24 hours. Nearly a decade later, in 2006, a man struck the statue's face with a hammer, damaging its left cheek and nose. Further attacks in 2017 and again in 2022 left visible damage to its face and torso, prompting costly restoration efforts. The most recent attack once again spotlights the ongoing tension between cultural heritage and historical memory in Algeria, where some view the statue as an enduring reminder of French colonialism, while others see it as a landmark tied to the city's identity and tourism. Authorities confirmed that the suspect is in custody and will face charges of vandalism and destruction of public property. Restoration efforts are expected to follow, though public debate over the statue's fate is likely to intensify. read more 2 Most Inspirational Green Projects in Egypt AEW Dynamite, WWE NXT to Strive over Viewership Tonight Egypt Marks 70th Anniv. of 2011 Revolution, National Police Day In Depth: WWE NXT Halloween Havoc In Depth: AEW Dynamite, WWE NXT Tuesday Viewership Strive Videos & Features WATCH: Egyptians Break Ramadan Fasts in Matariya Videos & Features GrEEk Campus Hosts Jobzella Fifth Career Fair Videos & Features 3 Iconic Ramadan Songs of All Times Videos & Features Top 4 Destinations to Visit in Upper Egypt News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results

Egypt welcomes Canada and Malta's intention to recognize a Palestinian state

Egypt has welcomed the announcement by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Maltese Prime Minister Robert Abela of their countries' intention to recognize a Palestinian state. In a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt affirmed that this accelerating international momentum toward recognizing a Palestinian state is a historic step. It contributes to the realization of the Palestinian state that Egypt and other Arab nations have long called for, in an effort to restore the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people. Egypt renewed its call to all countries that have not yet recognized a Palestinian state to move quickly to take this step. It views such a move as a way to stand on the right side of history and as a contribution toward implementing the two-state solution, which would ensure the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital. This announcement comes just days following President Emmanuel Macron's announcement that France will recognize Palestine in September at the UN General Assembly. Moreover, Prime Minister Keir Starmer has stated the UK is planning to recognize Palestine in September unless Israel takes 'substantive steps' toward peace.
