Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl Starter Claims Team Traded Him Out of Fear
Yahoo20-07-2025
Last year, the Philadelphia Eagles successfully kiboshed the Kansas City Chiefs' attempt at becoming the first team to threepeat as Super Bowl champions. They say winning cures everything, but that doesn't mean there hasn't been drama in the City of Brotherly Love.
Despite being the reigning Super Bowl champions, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has been busy making roster changes, which is normal for him. One of those changes involved trading starting safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson plus a 2026 sixth-round pic to the Houston Texans in exchange for guard Kenyon Green and a 2025 fifth-round pick.
It's not like CGJ had a bad season, he tied his previous career-high of six interceptions while starting 16 games during the regular season. So, when he was recently asked why he thought the Eagles traded him, the 27-year-old kept things pretty simple, yet his answer could irk some of his former team members.
So, why does Gardner-Johnson think the Eagles traded him? He recently revealed his answer on The Pivot podcast.
'Scared of a competitor. Simple as that.'
While Gardner-Johnson's second stint as a member of the Eagles is now over, he gets to walk away with a championship ring. Plus, he'll still have the opportunity to be a part of another potential playoff team after joining the Houston Texans, who are coming off back-to-back postseason appearances for the fourth time in franchise history.
