PCB responds to Sana Mir's remarks on Pakistan women's cricket team scheduling
Mir raised concerns about the timing of Pakistan's domestic 50-over tournament, questioning its value after the World Cup, when the team would only play three ODIs in the build-up.
In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), she criticised the scheduling and urged for "constructive criticism" rather than praising inefficiency.

A senior official from the PCB Women's Wing clarified that the National Women's One-Day Tournament, which is part of the 2025-26 domestic calendar, marks the beginning of the new season for Pakistan's women cricketers.
The official dismissed Mir's remarks as "hasty" and explained that the one-day cycle will conclude with the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025, set to take place in India and Sri Lanka.
The PCB stressed that player welfare is a priority, detailing an intensive programme from July to November 2025, which includes two training camps, an away T20I series, a home ODI series, and the World Cup.

Refuting Mir's claim, the PCB official confirmed that the National Women's One-Day Tournament would run from November 10 to 23, 2025, in Karachi, starting after the World Cup finishes.
Preparations for the World Cup are already underway with a 25-day skills and fitness camp, including 50-over practice games.
The board also noted that Pakistan remained unbeaten in the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier in April and participated in the National Women's T20 Tournament in May.
In response to the PCB, Mir again posted on X, clarifying her earlier comments.

According to details, last year the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appointed five former national team players — Shoaib Malik, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Misbah-ul-Haq, Waqar Younis, and Saqlain Mushtaq — as mentors for a new project, the Champions Cup. They were each paid a monthly salary of PKR 5 million. However, in recent months, the decision was made to discontinue the Champions Cup, meaning the mentors were no longer needed. Shoaib Malik had already resigned, but the other four former cricketers continue to receive their monthly salaries. Sources revealed that the PCB has sent termination letters to Saqlain Mushtaq and Waqar Younis. However, under their contracts, they are entitled to four months' salary, during which time the board may still assign them work. Sources further told that after the consultation between the selection committee, captain Agha and coach Hesson, the list of shortlisted will be sent for approval from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi, with the formal announcement expected in the next two to three days. The insiders further revealed that the Pakistan squad for the upcoming assignments may be comprised of 18 players, with emerging pacers Salman Mirza and Ahmed Daniyal likely to be called up.

Former Australia captain and coach Simpson dies at 89
SYDNEY: Former Australia test captain Bob Simpson, who ushered in the country's modern-day golden era of cricket as its coach, has died aged 89, Cricket Australia said on Saturday. Simpson played 62 tests between 1957 and 1978, scoring 4,869 runs, including 10 hundreds, and claimed 71 wickets with his leg spin following his debut on a tour of South Africa. Simpson, one of the greatest slip fielders the game has ever seen, initially retired from the game in 1968 before returning as test captain at the age of 41 after several front-line Australian players had joined the World Series Cricket in 1977. 'Bob Simpson was one of the greats of Australian cricket, and this is a sad day for anyone fortunate to have watched him play or who benefited from his wisdom,' said Cricket Australia Chair Mike Baird. 'As a brilliant opening batter, incredible slips fielder and handy spin bowler, Bob was a mainstay of a very strong Australian team in the 1960s, and he became a leader across the game as Australian and New South Wales captain and as a coach.' 'Bob's decision to come out of retirement to successfully lead the Australian team during the advent of World Series Cricket in 1977 was a wonderful service to the game, and his coaching set the foundation for a golden generation for Australian cricket.' As coach, Simpson is credited with instilling discipline in an Australia side led by Allan Border, which went on to win the 1987 World Cup and regained both the Ashes and the Frank Worrell Trophy. Leg-spin great Shane Warne called Simpson the best coach he played under and someone who helped his development. Simpson also coached Lancashire and the Netherlands and worked as a consultant with the Indian team in the late 1990s. 'Bob Simpson's extraordinary service to Australian cricket spanned generations,' Prime Minister Anthony Albanese wrote on X. 'As a player, captain and then era-defining coach, he set the highest of standards for himself and the champions he led. He will be long remembered by the game he loved.'
