The future of Edmonton Oilers captain
Connor McDavid
is the NHL's hottest offseason storyline. As the 2025-26 season approaches, the superstar forward remains undecided on a contract extension, keeping fans, management, and rivals guessing.
Now, fresh insider reports suggest his next deal could set a new benchmark in hockey history — worth as much as $17.5 million per year.
Connor
McDavid
's next contract could be game-changer, says Insider
NHL insider Frank Seravalli believes McDavid's next contract could fall in the $16–$17.5 million range annually, with a four-year term emerging as the most likely scenario. 'This is a pure spitball; I believe it will be somewhere between $16-17.5 million a year on a four-year deal,' Seravalli said, as reported by NHL Rumors and Bleacher Report.
McDavid, 28, is entering the final season of the eight-year, $100 million deal he signed in 2017. Eligible to sign an extension since July 1, the Oilers' captain has yet to commit, sparking widespread speculation about his long-term plans.
Daily Faceoff's Jason Gregor expects McDavid to eventually re-sign, predicting a five-year agreement with an Average Annual Value (AAV) between $15.5 and $16 million. If finalized, the deal would make McDavid the NHL's highest-paid player when it takes effect in the 2026–27 season, eclipsing current salary records.

GST cut on cars, bikes likely soon: Expected percentage and who gains most

Car and bike buyers may soon have a reason to cheer this festive season, as the government is working on a plan to slash the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on automobiles. The move is aimed at making passenger vehicles and two-wheelers more affordable for the masses. The Finance Ministry has already forwarded its proposal to the GST Council, suggesting a simplified two-slab structure of 5% and 18% across all goods, replacing the current four-tier system, IANS reported. GST reduction for cars, bikes: Who benefits and how At present, passenger vehicles attract 28% GST, and on top of that, a compensation cess ranging from 1% to 22% depending on engine size, length, and body type. This means the overall tax outgo on cars can go up to nearly 50%. Electric cars, however, enjoy a much lower 5% GST rate with no cess. Two-wheelers also fall under the 28% GST slab. While entry-level and mid-segment bikes up to 350cc do not carry any cess, larger bikes with engines above 350cc are charged an additional 3%. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo Volvo EX30 Review: Is the smallest Volvo worth buying? | TOI Auto If the proposed structure is cleared, the 28% slab would be replaced with 18%. This change is expected to give a big boost to mass-market segments such as hatchbacks, compact SUVs, commuter motorcycles, and scooters, which together make up the bulk of India's auto sales. For two-wheelers, which are still the most common mode of transport for daily commuters, an 18% GST rate would directly reduce costs. This is significant because motorcycles and scooters in the entry-level and commuter space form the largest chunk of sales in India. 'Greg Chappell caused insecurity in the team': Irfan Pathan reveals untold story of Chappell era

Irfan Pathan and Greg Chappell (Getty Images) NEW DELHI: Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has opened up on Greg Chappell 's controversial stint as Team India 's head coach, offering a balanced view of the Australian's methods. Pathan admitted that he personally benefited under Chappell, but also highlighted how the coach's aggressive approach clashed with Indian cricketing culture, eventually contributing to a turbulent phase that included Sourav Ganguly's removal as captain and India's early exit from the 2007 ODI World Cup. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Pathan recalled how Chappell's style created insecurity within the squad. "He had his way of treating seniors and juniors with the same respect. But in that, he would be a bit more aggressive than one would like. He would tell anyone that if they don't perform, they will be dropped. I realised it was too aggressive, and once I talked to him privately about it," Pathan said on The Lallantop. "I told him that we already know what you keep saying about being dropped. You don't need to tell us. It is causing insecurity in the team. He looked at me for a while, got a bit upset and threw some choicest of words, but then he realised I was right," he added. Pathan stressed that Chappell's failure was not in intent but in cultural adaptation. "If I go to Bangladesh or Sri Lanka or England as a coach, and if I don't accept their culture, would their players accept me? Greg Chappell's intention was right, but he wanted to bring an Australian culture. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Seniors are going crazy for these comfy, stylish, easy-on shoes Ultra-Comfortable Shoes Undo He wanted us to play hard cricket and didn't care what background anyone came from. But you can certainly do it in a much better way." Sharing his own county cricket experience, Pathan underlined why blending into a team's environment is crucial. "I played for Middlesex County club. You play a four-day match, then you drive the next day. They gather everyone in a bar before the match. I don't drink, but I need to accept their culture. You are a part of the team, and you need to blend in. If Chappell hadn't missed that one thing, he would've been one of the best coaches," he concluded.
