The Berlin-based startup's platform lets enterprise customers create and deploy AI voice agents without coding expertise. Companies can customize those agents to handle simple inquiries, customer support, and follow-up with actions like appointment scheduling.
"You can think of Synthflow as a voice AI platform on a no-code basis that allows businesses to very easily and quickly build and deploy voice AI agents," Hakob Astabatsyan, cofounder of Synthflow, told Business Insider.
Astabatsyan said his startup's tech can replace traditional automated call menus, in which users press buttons to select options. Instead, Synthflow's technology is built on large language models that can have "real-time contextual conversations," Astabatsyan said.
In a demo video seen by BI, an AI agent answers a call from a customer seeking a car insurance quote. The AI agent asks for the customer's details in a relaxed, conversational tone before transferring to a human operator. Astabatsyan said the AI agent's responses come in under 400 milliseconds, which matches the human brain's processing speed for conversations.
Astabatsyan founded Synthflow in 2023 with Albert Astabatsyan and Sassun Mirzakhan-Saky. The startup says it now has over 1,000 enterprise clients, often in call centers, in areas such as finance, healthcare, and education. It also offers its tech on a white-label basis and can integrate into a company's existing telephony system.
Voice has become a key battleground among AI startups, with companies like ElevenLabs and PolyAI also raising millions in capital to develop AI for call centers.
Astabatsyan said that fundraising for AI startups is "definitely not easy" because the expectations are "very, very high."
He added that investors expect AI startups to grow "two times faster" than benchmarks from a few years ago.
Synthflow's Series A round, which was led by Accel with participation from Atlantic Labs and Singular, brings the startup's total funding to $30 million. Synthflow plans to use the fresh funding to open a new US office and invest in developing its agent platform.

Goldman Sachs lifts TSMC target as AI and advanced-packaging demand broadens

-- Goldman Sachs raised its price target for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co to NT$1,210 from NT$1,145, saying concerns about large AI-chip order cuts have eased while demand for the company's advanced CoWoS packaging is spreading beyond artificial-intelligence workloads. The brokerage increased its earnings forecasts for the world's biggest contract chipmaker by 2%-6% for 2025-27 after boosting projected wafer revenue from 3-nanometre and 5-nanometre production. It now expects TSMC's dollar revenue to grow roughly 29% next year and 17% in 2026. Goldman sees limited risk of further reductions in orders for AI processors, citing improved supply-chain coordination between TSMC and server builders. At the same time, it said more smartphone, server and networking customers are adopting CoWoS – a chip-on-wafer packaging technique that allows multiple chips to be combined inside a single module, helping diversify demand. The brokerage lifted its CoWoS shipment estimates to 664,000 wafers in 2025 and 1.56 million in 2027, and raised its capital-expenditure forecasts to US$42 billion for 2026 and US$50 billion for 2027 to reflect faster capacity expansion. Goldman also expects TSMC to impose another round of price increases on its most advanced manufacturing nodes and packaging services in 2026, supported by tight supply and limited competition. TSMC's Taipei-listed shares were last at NT$1,070, about 13% below the new target, while its New York-listed ADRs traded around $222.18 in afternoon trading on Wednesday. Amazon's Whole Foods chief slams 'ridiculous' bureaucracy in internal meeting: 'We're wasting time'

Amazon is on a mission to cut red tape. The company's grocery boss is going full beans on this goal. During an internal staff meeting for Amazon's grocery business last week, an employee pressed leadership on how the company plans to speed things up, saying "multiple levels of approval" was slowing down decision-making, according to a recording of the meeting obtained by Business Insider. Amazon's VP of Worldwide Grocery Jason Buechel, who's also the CEO of Whole Foods, pounced on the question. He described certain aspects of the grocery business's internal bureaucracy as "ridiculous" and blamed this for bogging down the business. Amazon has identified several slow-moving procedures, such as spending and transaction policies, and is streamlining them to reduce time wasted on "administrative details," he added. "The feedback I've gotten from team members and employees is that ultimately, we're wasting time," Buechel said. "It's taking too long for decisions and approvals to take place, and it's actually holding back some of our initiatives." "One Grocery" Amazon recently overhauled its grocery leadership team and pulled Whole Foods closer into the fold. Since taking over Amazon's entire grocery business earlier this year, Buechel has prioritized integrating teams from Whole Foods, Amazon Fresh, and Amazon Go through an initiative called "One Grocery." Eliminating bureaucracy has become a central mandate at Amazon, with CEO Andy Jassy emphasizing the need to remove inefficient processes. Over the past year, the company has trimmed management layers and encouraged employees to flag rules that slow things down. An Amazon spokesperson told BI that Buechel was highlighting the different spending and transaction policies between Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods as an example of where the team is working to "simplify administrative processes." The company is "more optimistic than ever" about grocery, the spokesperson added. 'Overlapping work' The restructuring is leading to job cuts, too. Amazon laid off at least 125 employees in its Fresh grocery division, according to a public notice earlier this week. The Amazon spokesperson told BI that the job cuts were the result of a Fresh grocery store closure in the Seattle area, adding that affected employees have been given the opportunity to transfer to positions at nearby locations. During last week's meeting, Buechel said identifying "overlapping work" across the grocery business is a top priority for the year. He added that this month's restructuring, which brought Whole Foods corporate staff under Amazon programs for pay and performance, aims to create a more "consistent experience" across grocery teams. Concerns over bureaucracy in Amazon's grocery division aren't new. In 2021, company leaders had to respond to criticism over the grocery business's underperformance and deteriorating workplace culture, BI previously reported. Since then, Amazon's grocery division has seen major changes, including a wave of new leadership. Buechel's predecessor, Tony Hoggett, left his role after 3 years. Amazon has downsized its cashierless Just Walk Out technology business and slowed the expansion of Fresh grocery stores. Buechel said at last week's meeting that he couldn't address every question because plans are still being ironed out. He also noted the grocery team faces "a lot of work ahead" and hinted that some resources will "pivot" to other areas. One area Buechel is keeping a close eye on: the competition. He said he visits rival stores weekly to stay inspired and monitor industry shifts. "I am a grocery geek," Buechel said. "I love going into our stores, but I love going into competition."

How the CFP Board Is Leading the Charge on AI

Study up, advisors: AI may be on the exam. The CFP Board, the financial services industry's main certification body, convened an AI working group earlier this month to determine how to wrap industry applications of the tech into its extensive certification course. The move is the board's latest effort to address AI's impact on the world of financial advice; earlier this year, it released a preliminary set of guidelines addressing client privacy protection and compliance concerns. As AI's adoption grows with the improvement of applications like ChatGPT, more and more AI companies targeting financial professionals are sprouting up, promising to speed up processes and simplify workflows. Advisors are also increasingly using AI to communicate with clients and produce marketing materials; regulatory bodies, therefore, are in a sprint to keep up, experts said. 'We want to make sure, as this evolves, that we're riding the wave of what's happening, but also charting our own course,' said Dane Snowden, the CFP Board's COO and leader of the working group. 'We have formed this AI working group to help us with that.' READ ALSO: Social Security Insolvency Looming Closer Than Expected and How 401(k) Providers Are Filling the Gaps in Financial Advice The CFP Board's working group comprises 14 people — 'big thinkers,' said Snowden — with expertise in the AI arena. The group will figure out what should be added to the nonprofit's exams in its annual practice analysis process. While AI is currently being used by advisors primarily for back-office functions, like notetaking and notarization, Snowden sees its use expanding to client-facing work in the future. Advisors are also warming up to the idea of AI assistance: Only 8% of advisors see AI as a threat to their livelihoods, down from 21% a year ago, according to a recent Advisor360 report. 76% of advisors say they've 'reaped immediate rewards' from using AI in their practices, per the same report. The top priority for regulatory and certification bodies should be ensuring someone is always there to verify AI output, said Era Jain, the founder of Zeplyn, an AI notetaker for advisors. Jain said more educational materials are needed for advisors to increase awareness of AI's use cases, but that the CFP Board's move is a step in the right direction. 'There isn't enough material right now that exists that's purely talking about how you can start leveraging [AI] in your practice in an educational way,' she said, 'and that's the gap that I think this AI working group can largely address.' AI(WI). The Investments and Wealth Institute, another nonprofit offering its own certifications for advisors, also has a task force looking at how it can use AI to speed up operations. Its CEO, Sean Walters, says the main challenge for regulators is ensuring there's always a human involved in the process. 'If, and that's a big if, AI were ever used to expedite asset allocation or rebalance a portfolio, a human is still needed in between that and the client,' he said. 'Our philosophy on it is, at least internally, 'AI-forward, human-first.'' This post first appeared on The Daily Upside.
