WWE releases Braun Strowman in latest round of cuts: 3 reasons why ‘The Monster of Monsters' was an asset for the company

Time of India03-05-2025

Braun Strowman, one of the popular names in the world of professional wrestling, was released from the WWE a few hours ago much to the shock of his ardent fans. This brought his second stint with the promotion, which started in 2022, to an end. He had previously worked with the company from 2015 to 2021. 'The Monster of Monsters' earned the love and respect of the WWE Universe with his strong in-ring and willingness to put over other wrestlers. Here is a look at why he will be missed.
Braun Strowman made a menacing heel
Strowman made his WWE debut nearly a decade ago as 'The Black Sheep' of the Wyatt Family and soon emerged as a monster heel. He initially squashed local talent in short matches and proved his mettle as a monster heel. His imposing physique and intense body language made these beatdowns look believable, which is the hallmark of good pro-wrestling. He in particular shared good chemistry with James Ellsworth during this time.
Strowman could hang with the big guys
Strowman accomplished what few have when he feuded with Roman Reigns during 2017 and scored a win over him. The big guy also put on brutal matches with the likes of Big Show and Brock Lesnar, proving that he could hang with A-list stars.
Interestingly, he was cheered during his rivalry with the then 'Big Dog' despite being the villain. Strowman also added another feather to his cap when he beat the legendary Goldberg at WrestleMania 36 in 2020. He replaced Reigns in the match after due to medical reasons.
He gave back to the company
Braun Strowman was a true company guy who played an instrumental role in helping a couple of fast-rising superstars find a foothold in the industry. The 'Last Monster Standing' match with Bronson Reed is a shining example of his commitment to fostering young talent. Strowman sold his offence with conviction, making him look like a legitimate threat.
Strowman also did the same for Jacob Fatu. This feud established 'The Samoan Werewolf' as a freak of nature and eventually paved the way for him to beat LA Knight for the US title at WrestleMania 41.
Interestingly, apart from Braun Strowman the likes of Dakota Kai and Eddy Thorpe too were released as part of these cuts.

CM Punk to Charlotte Flair: 7 wrestlers missing from the WWE Money in the Bank 2025 list

WWE Money in the Bank (MITB) is back. John Cena and Cody Rhodes will be in a massive tag team as part of the show and a Women's Intercontinental Championship between Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria has also been announced apart from the traditional ladder matches. Despite these progresses, a couple of key names seem to be missing from the roll of players who will have a shot at grabbing the briefcase on top of the ring. CM Punk Perhaps the biggest shocker for MITB fans came when WWE legend CM Punk was missing from the list of those scheduled to compete. Punk's decades-long feud with Seth Rollins could be a potential contributing factor to this, although no confirmation has been provided for the same. Sami Zayn Sami Zayn's defeat in Saturday Night's Main Event has led to him being kicked out of the MITB championship this year. However, his creative team's claims of preparing him for something much bigger leave room open for Zayn to be part of a tag team against Seth Rollins' faction at SummerSlam. Charlotte Flair Although there are no personal feuds pending to Charlotte Flair's name, her loss at the qualifying match on the blue brand and dearth of matches in the ring have left MITB out of her plans this year. Jacob Fatu United States breakout champion Jacob Fatu has things going as well as they could be. His work on the blue brand and recent performance left many puzzled as to why Fatu was left off the roll for no reason but he doesn't seem to be in any urgent need of MITB fame as well. Finn Balor Finn Balor lost his qualifying match to Seth Rollins. Despite his numerous television appearances, the industry still hasn't granted him sufficient premium live event opportunities. Fans are still hopeful of the possibility that WWE might include Balor in the SummerSlam. Liv Morgan As one-half of the reigning Women's Tag Team Champions, Liv Morgan's absence from MITB seems to stem from her Judgement Day drama. Reports suggest that the possibility of Dominik Mysterio betraying her to partner up with Roxanne Perez is not off the table. Morgan is scheduled for a feud against Iyo Sky soon. Jade Cargill A feud with Naomi and Tiffany Stratton and a loss in the qualifying match against the former seems to have put MITB out of Jade Cargill's cards. Her return at Elimination Chamber 2025 and a blue brand moment at WrestleMania were recent successes in Cargill's career. Many speculate that she may still be present at the MITB match to lower Naomi's chances of winning. The championship is scheduled to take place on Saturday (June 7) at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California at 7:00 PM ET (4:00 PM PT).

NDTV Exclusive: Rana Daggubati On Rana Naidu Season 2 - "It's A Biopic"

Netflix's breakout series Rana Naidu is set to return with a second season. Directed by Karan Anshuman, the upcoming season features Rana Daggubati, Kriti Kharbanda, Arjun Rampal and Venkatesh in key roles. In an exclusive interview with NDTV, Rana, Kriti and Karan offered a glimpse into their much-anticipated series. Drawing parallels between his character as a fixer and his real-life experiences as a producer, Rana mentioned the show as a dark biopic of his life. The actor said, "I haven't said this before, but this show is actually a biopic in some sense. It's like a dark reality of my real life." He added, "In India, we work in entertainment, we work in the media in some form, which is a very unstructured style. We are a country that has 10-12 different industries. We speak many more languages than that. In this structure, you have to be fluid to be able to fix things constantly. There will always be trouble, you will always have to fix things that's always a parallel with the show." For Kriti Kharbanda, Rana Naidu Season 2 is a very "exciting" project, allowing her to show a very different side of her to the audience. The actress said, "I was extremely excited about doing this (Rana Naidu Season 2). I couldn't sleep the night before my first day. It was very exciting for me because no one has ever offered me something like this. "It's very contrasting to how I look, the kind of characters I have played. It's very contrasting to the kind of person I am in real life. For me, that was so exciting that finally someone's offering me something different. That was just amazing," she added. Rana Daggubati also talked about attending WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas. "That was pretty awesome, actually. All thanks to Netflix. It's the first time I have been there. I spent two nights at WrestleMania and one day at Raw. All my childhood came back in one shot in a very lively world. It was pretty exciting," the actor said. When asked about his favourite moment from the event, he shared, "'Stone Cold' Steve Austin coming and breaking bottles on his head, that was pretty iconic." Coming back to Rana Naidu, Rana Daggubati explained Season 1 to be a story about a "dysfunctional family that couldn't put anything together". Picking up from where it left off, the new season will revolve around the "dysfunctional family trying to get functional and see if normal order can come in their life but the past catches up," concluded Daggubati. Rana Naidu Season 2 will release on June 13 on Netflix.
