BHU teachers meet acting VC , demand promotions & hike
" They also raised other demands and grievances and alleged corrupt practices.
The delegation submitted a memorandum in support of their demands. After meeting the acting VC, they warned that if promotions under CAS were not granted to eligible teachers timely, they would refrain from holding classes and stage protest. They discussed their long-pending issues, the biggest concern being lack of permanent positions for temporary teachers working for 14 years.
They also raised serious concerns about misinterpretation of CAS and withholding promotions.
They said some teachers had not received promotions for 10 years. The discussions turned heated, even as the acting VC attempted to leave, but they stopped him to seek his assurance. They said it was first time in 20 years that assistant professors had met the university head jointly to raise their demands.
Jaiswal presented a seven-point demand for regular advertising and notifying posts every six months; action against officials who manipulate rules and cause confusion; giving equal benefits to all as only half the teachers received promotions in notional increment; contrary to regulations which entitle all teachers; counting of previous services and notional increment benefits; transparency in PhD and promotion processes; restoration of remuneration for examination duties and implementation of cashless health facilities like CGHS.
Jaiswal claimed the acting VC acknowledged some shortcomings on the university's part and assured prompt resolution. However, despite repeated efforts, he could not be contacted to comment on Saturday's meeting with the delegation.

Mahamana's ancestral home in Prayagraj to be developed into memorial
1 2 Prayagraj: The ancestral home of Bharat Ratna Madan Mohan Malaviya, one of India's greatest educationists, cultural reformers and a key figure in the freedom movement, would soon be developed into a memorial. Situated in Malaviya Nagar, Prayagraj, the house where Mahamana, as he was called, was born on December 25, 1861, will now be preserved and presented in a manner befitting his legacy. The Uttar Pradesh govt has assigned joint responsibility to the public works department (PWD), municipal corporation, department of culture and revenue department to start the work. A four-member committee, formed under the supervision of the district magistrate, recently inspected the site and submitted its recommendations to the state govt. The file detailing the memorial's scope, features and required area has already been sent to Lucknow for approval. Departments concerned have been instructed to begin preparatory work. The initiative was originally proposed by late Justice Giridhar Malaviya, the grandson of Madan Mohan Malaviya. He expressed this desire during a meeting with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Although Justice Malaviya passed away before the proposal could be finalised, the state govt has now given it the green signal. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Brain tumor has left my son feeling miserable; please help! As one enters the property, a modest courtyard leads to a room on the right, believed to be his childhood room and study. Though the Radha-Krishna idols once housed in the temple there have been moved to Varanasi, sacred items such as the conch used in rituals and a copy of Ramcharitmanas are still safely preserved. Two families of Malaviya's descendants continue to reside in parts of the property. One section of the house has been sold, and modern construction has taken place, yet the core part remains untouched and intact. Madan Mohan Malaviya made transformative contributions to Indian education, founding institutions like Banaras Hindu University and the Hindi Sahitya Sammelan. He also played a significant role in India's freedom struggle. He died on Nov 12, 1946, in Varanasi. "Mahamana's home has been inspected by the committee, and we have submitted the file to our higher-ups in Lucknow, who would take the decision on the form, area and facilities of the memorial," said manuscript officer (culture department), Ghulam Sarvar.
