Robber stole cash and tobacco at Tredegar petrol station

Newport Crown Court heard that Liam Watts and another man – who has not been identified – entered Nantybwch Service Station in Tredegar wearing balaclavas at around 8.45pm on December 23, 2023.
There was a lone woman working in the service station, and the men grabbed her and told her to open the till.
The men took £200 in cash, and Watts emptied packets of tobacco and cigarettes into a bag.

The pair warned the woman not to call the police, and the other man then grabbed a bottle of brandy as they fled.
She phoned the police, and CCTV footage of the incident was provided.
Police searched an address in Tredegar on January 1, 2024, in relation to an unrelated matter. Whilst at the address, they recognised a pair of grey Armani tracksuit bottoms.
Forensic checks revealed Watts' fingerprints on a tobacco pack which had been dropped during the robbery.
The defendant, who has five previous convictions for 12 offences, pleaded guilty to robbery.
In a statement read out in court, the woman said she was left feeling 'particularly nervous' when working by herself late at night after the robbery, and she was concerned that the other man had not been identified yet.

Kevin Seal, appearing for Watts, said the defendant was 'sorry' and 'embarrassed' about his offending, and was so intoxicated during the robbery that he didn't realise the member of staff was somebody he knew.
He said Watts developed a drug addiction and issues with alcohol after receiving a large amount of money and spending it all in a short period of time 'mixing with others and taking cocaine'.
'That's probably the worst thing that ever happens to him,' said Mr Seal.
'He then went on effectively a spree of offending.'
Mr Seal said Watts was 'grateful' that he was now in custody, and that this gave him a chance to address his substance issues.
'It has put the brakes on a one way path,' he said.
Addressing the defendant, Judge Carl Harrison said: 'This was a lone female working at night at 8.45pm in December. It was dark outside.
'Your offending has had a long-lasting effect on her.'
Watts was jailed for two years and three months, and the woman was granted a five-year restraining order against him.

Man wins £9k after Google captures him naked at home

A police officer whose backside was exposed to the world on Google Street View has won more than £9,000 in compensation. The Argentinean man was caught naked while a Google Street View car was taking images of his town in the province of Buenos Aires. The officer was on his patio when the vehicle whizzed by and snapped his behind – which was then uploaded online for billions of people to see. The red-faced man was awarded more than £9,000 in compensation after a fierce legal battle, with judges ruling Google had invaded his privacy. The cop claimed he had been standing behind a six-foot wall when he was pictured naked, but Google insisted it wasn't high enough. The first legal battle went Google's way, reports La Nacion. A judge ruled it was the police officer's fault because he was 'walking around in inappropriate conditions in the garden of his home'. They also decided that 'the only person able to identify who the naked person was, was the actual man'. The 'policeman shot himself in the foot' by his own action, the judge concluded. But appeal judges overturned this decision and ordered Google Argentina and Google LLC to pay the man a total of 16 million pesos – around £9,600. Judges decided that even though the police officer's face was not visible, his address could still be determined by the street numbers. They wrote: 'This involves an image of a person that was not captured in a public space but within the confines of their home, behind a fence taller than the average-sized person. The invasion of privacy… is blatant. 'There is no doubt that in this case there was an arbitrary intrusion into another's life'. They added that there was 'no justification for (Google) to evade responsibility for this serious error that involved an intrusion into the plaintiff's house, within his private domain, undermining his dignity. No one wants to appear exposed to the world as the day they were born.' The ruling comes after a number of experts advised people to blur their house on Google Street View. More Trending Security expert Will Geddes told Metro that criminals could use Google Maps to scope out properties and form plans to break in. He said: 'Blurring your house prevents anybody from getting any really specific information or intelligence on it.' Anyone looking to obscure their home on Street View needs to first find their property on the map. Then they can click 'Report a problem' in the lower right corner and fill out the relevant form. Google naked Street View picture wins angry man more than £9,000 compensation

A police officer who claimed that he had become a laughing stock after he was caught naked in his garden in Argentina by a Google Street View car has been awarded a large pay out A man who was caught naked in his garden by a Google Street View car has been awarded a large compensation pay out. ‌ A vehicle was taking images of a small town in the province of Buenos Aires in Argentina when it captured the man's bare backside while he was on his patio. The images were uploaded onto the internet for all to see and the red-faced man has now been awarded £9,000 compensation by a judge who ruled that Google had invaded his privacy. The man, who is a police officer, claimed that he was standing behind a two-metre wall when he was pictured during the incident in 2017. And to his embarrassment the case went viral on social media as well as being covered on local television. ‌ ‌ Seeking compensation for the upset, the man took legal action and he said that especially due to his position as a policeman he had been left a laughing stock. But his claim was initially dismissed last year with it ruled then that it was his fault as he was 'walking around in inappropriate conditions in the garden of his home'. It was also said by a judge that "the only person able to identify who the naked person was, was the actual man". At the same time Google had said that the wall around his home was not high enough, while the judge concluded that the "policeman shot himself in the foot" by his own actions, reported La Nacion. ‌ But on appeal judges have now overturned that decision and ordered him to receive the equivalent of £9,300 in compensation. "This involves an image of a person that was not captured in a public space but within the confines of their home, behind a fence taller than the average-sized person. The invasion of privacy... is blatant," they wrote. The judges said "there is no doubt that in this case there was an arbitrary intrusion into another's life". They also concluded that there was "no justification for (Google) to evade responsibility for this serious error that involved an intrusion into the plaintiff's house, within his private domain, undermining his dignity. No one wants to appear exposed to the world as the day they were born."
