New Delhi, May 30 (PTI) The recent establishment of the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) in Mumbai is a landmark initiative for institutionalising the country's cultural and creative strengths, a top official of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said here on Friday.
Jaju underscored India's unique civilisational journey and diverse cultural expressions as the foundation of the country's growing global soft power, according to a statement issued by the organisers.
Drawing on classical references like 'drishti', 'shruti' and 'kriti' — representing India's visual, oral and written traditions — the Union secretary emphasised how ancient legacies like the Natya Shastra and the Vedas, along with storytelling epics, music and mudras, continue to shape the country's vibrant creative economy.
He highlighted the establishment of the IICT as a landmark initiative for institutionalising India's cultural and creative strengths, the statement said.
Jaju emphasised that India is a 'storytelling superpower', with many untapped narratives waiting to be transformed into immersive global experiences.
He reaffirmed the country's 'potential to become a creative superpower', urging the industry to harness this opportunity through unity, innovation and a shared cultural vision.
Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, in his address, highlighted that India's rising stature on the global stage is a result of a renewed national pride and a transformed self-image.
He noted a paradigm shift in tourism post-COVID-19, with travellers increasingly seeking immersive and experiential journeys.
India's tourism sector, supported by robust infrastructure development, airports, roads and railways, is witnessing significant growth, particularly in spiritual and domestic tourism, the minister said.
Destinations like Ujjain's Mahakal Lok corridor have attracted more than 10 lakh visitors in a month, illustrating the sector's resurgence, he added.
With domestic tourism showing greater potential than international travel, India is aiming to align its tourism GDP contribution to global benchmarks, targeting 10 per cent of the national GDP by 2030, Shekhawat was quoted as saying in the statement.
Puneet Chhatwal, Chairman, CII National Committee on Tourism and Hospitality, emphasised that India's soft power is deeply rooted in its rich culture, heritage and hospitality, which serve as powerful tools for global engagement and trust-building.
He noted that every USD 1 million invested in tourism can generate nearly 100 direct and 250 indirect jobs and significantly increase foreign-tourist arrivals and foreign-exchange earnings. PTI KND RC

Uttar Pradesh's temple towns of Mathura and Vrindavan transformed into a virtual fortress, with thousands of police personnel deployed across the cities as lakhs of devotees poured to celebrate Shri Krishna Janmashtami. Chhath Ghat, Yamuna cruise service: CM announces plans to make Delhi tourism hub
Agency: New Delhi, Aug 15 (PTI) Developing a 12-km-long 'Chhath Ghat', Yamuna cruise service and a tourism circuit are some of the major plans of the Rekha Gupta government to boost tourism in Delhi. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday announced the construction of the Chhath Ghat along the Yamuna, which will be one of the largest riverfront spaces in the country and is expected to welcome lakhs of devotees during Chhath Puja and other major events. To further revitalise the riverfront, regular Yamuna Aarti will also be organised, she said. The Delhi CM made these announcements while speaking at an Independence Day celebration, according to an official statement. The government will soon launch a comprehensive tourism circuit linking Delhi's most significant heritage landmarks, enabling visitors to experience the city's cultural journey through a seamless and well-curated route. This initiative will integrate historic forts, monuments, museums and cultural centres into a tourism experience that would reflect Delhi's past and the present. Plans are also underway to introduce a state-of-the-art Yamuna cruise service, offering tourists a scenic journey through the city's cultural and spiritual heart, she said. To strengthen the healthcare infrastructure, a target of 1,100 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs has been set, out of which 166 have already been completed, the CM said. Additionally, in August, five major hospital expansion projects will be inaugurated, adding 1,300 new beds, new OPDs and state-of-the-art medical equipment, Gupta highlighted. To address the shortage of medical machines in hospitals, 150 dialysis machines, 20 CT scan machines, and 12 MRI machines have been installed. New medical superintendents have been appointed in 28 hospitals, and 1,500 nurses have been given permanent appointments. Further, she said that Delhi's hospitals have been connected to the Hospital Information Management System (HIMS), enabling patients to book appointments online and access facilities like digital health records and a unique health ID. Govt implements ₹3,000 FASTag pass for private vehicles
New Delhi, Aug 15 (PTI) State-owned NHAI has implemented the FASTag annual pass across the country from Friday to encourage the use of technology to enhance 'ease of living' for the citizens, according to an official statement. The statement said the annual pass has received an overwhelming response from the national highway users. "Till 4:30 PM on the first day of the implementation, around 1.2 lakh users purchased and activated the annual pass and about 1.24 lakh transactions were recorded on toll plazas," it added. The statement said that providing a seamless and economical travel option to national highway users, the FASTag Annual Pass eliminates the need to frequently recharge FASTag through a one-time fee payment of ₹ 3,000 for one year's validity or 200 toll plaza crossings on National Highways and Expressways across the country. The annual pass is applicable to all non-commercial vehicles with a valid FASTag and gets activated within two hours of the one-time fee payment through the Rajmargyatra App or NHAI website. With a penetration rate of around 98 per cent and over 8 crore users, FASTag has revolutionised the Electronic Toll Collection system in the country, the statement said. The introduction of the annual pass facility will not only enhance the FASTag user experience but also make journeys on the National Highways and Expressways more economical and seamless, it added.
