The company noted that so far, Indian customers have primarily depended on local banks and financial institutions for vehicle financing. Honda's launch is likely to provide consumers with a more straightforward channel, especially as affordability and variable repayment terms are becoming key determinants of purchase decisions.
Strategic significance
India is the ninth market in the world for Honda to receive a stand-alone financial services unit. Its counterparts are already present in Japan, North America, and Europe, where captive finance units are the backbone of driving sales and increasing brand loyalty. With the establishment of a presence in India, Honda is in line with growing interest in structured finance products in one of the quickest-growing car markets.
The company has appointed Kei Yamada as President of the new entity. Honda said it plans to build long-term relationships with Indian customers by tailoring financing products to regional needs.

Preparing for a new mobility era
Apart from traditional loans, Honda is also investigating financial services based on its next-generation vehicle technologies. With the industry moving towards software-defined vehicles (SDVs), the company said that models of financing could change to include services and experiences based on connected vehicle information. This, according to Honda, could not only bring more customer satisfaction but also generate new sources of revenue.
The establishment of Honda Finance India marks a strategic pivot, with the firm placing bets on financial services as a growth driver complementing its traditional product offerings. For Indian buyers, the move could translate into higher choice and easier finance availability at a time when car affordability is under strain.

‘Silence only emboldens the bully': Chinese envoy says ‘firmly oppose' US tariffs

Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong on Thursday accused the United States of acting like a 'bully', saying Washington had long enjoyed the benefits of free trade but was now weaponising tariffs as 'bargaining chips.' 'US has long been benefited greatly from free trade but now uses tariffs as bargaining chips to demand exorbitant prices from various countries. The US imposed tariffs of up to 50 per cent on India, and has even threatened for more. China firmly opposes it. In the face of such acts, silence or compromise only emboldens the bully. China will firmly stand with India to uphold the multilateral trading system with the world trade organisation,' Xu said. Feihong also said that tariff and trade 'wars' were disrupting the global economic and trade system. #WATCH | China's ambassador to India, Xu Feihong says, '…US has imposed tariffs of up to 50% on India and even threatened for more. 'China and India's friendship benefits Asia. We are the double engines of economic growth in Asia. India and China unity benefits the world at large,' Xu said. Calling for deeper collaboration, Xu said India and China had a 'responsibility to take the lead in promoting an equal and orderly multipolar world.' On trade, he offered assurances that 'all Indian commodities are welcome to enter the Chinese market' and urged the two countries to 'enhance strategic mutual trust' and 'avoid mutual suspicion.' Xu's remarks came days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in New Delhi. Modi is also expected to travel to China later this year for the SCO leaders' summit. 'Together, we can open a new chapter of a dragon-elephant tango,' Xu Feihong said speaking about the upcoming Summit.

BCCI To End Partnership With Dream11? Secretary Saikia Issues Big Update

Last Updated: BCCI would comply with the Indian government's new upcoming Bills against real money companies, even if it might mean ending sponsorship deal with Dream11. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is in full support of the central government's two new bills — the National Sports Governance Law, 2025 and Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025 (which was passed in Lok Sabha on Wednesday, but is yet to become a law) — and will follow them in 'true letter and spirit', according to secretary Devajit Saikia. Both regulations could have a significant impact on the board and the Indian cricket teams. To start with, the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill is calling for a blanket ban on all real-money gaming platforms and their promoters. That will include Dream11, the official shirt sponsor of the BCCI. 'Once the act comes into force, we will look into it, examine it and if it's permissible, then we will take sponsorship (from online betting and gaming companies), if it's not permissible, we'll not do anything," Saikia told The Times of India about the latter. 'Take the example of cigarettes and liquor. Has the BCCI taken any sponsorship from the cigarettes and liquor companies once taking sponsorship from these kinds of companies was banned? So, whatever is permissible in the laws in force in our country, we will do that only. The BCCI will follow every policy of the country which is framed by the central government," he added. The National Sports Governance Law, 2025, made the government's stance on multi-national cricket between India and Pakistan formal, allowing the BCCI to participate and play against the Men in Green in the 2025 Asia Cup in September. Under it, bilateral cricket between India and Pakistan remains outlawed, with cricketers from across the border not allowed to step into India unless it's for a multi-nation tournament. 'The central government has taken the interest of the players, the teams and also, the events that are going to be hosted by our country in the future. So, all these things are very nicely taken by the government of India and we fully endorse the view expressed by the central government and we will 100% abide by the policy framed by the central government," Saikia added. 'The BCCI will not go a single inch against the government's policy. We will fully abide by all policies of the central government, whether it is participating in an international sporting event or regarding sponsorship. We will follow everything in true letter and spirit," he said. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
