Utah Ski Resort Lists Preferred Parking Passes for $1300
Snowbird, Utah, will soon begin selling preferred parking passes for next season. They cost $1,299, according to a recently-updated page on the resort's website.The preferred parking pass provides access to the Lower Gad Valley, Pond and Bypass Road Preferred Parking Lots between December 1, 2025 to April 30, 2026. They go on sale at 10 a.m. April 15 and are available on a first-come first-serve basis. Preferred Parking pass holders are not required to make a reservation for holiday and peak periods.Current preferred parking pass holders will have two weeks to renew their pass between March 26 and April 9.Want to keep up with the best stories and photos in skiing? The proceeds from the preferred parking passes will go toward "improving and expanding carpool-specific parking, enhancing carpool rewards, and supporting UTA Ski Bus rides for Season Passholders," according to Snowbird's website.The majority of Snowbird's parking is free and available on a first-come, first-served basis. The resort also offers daily paid parking reservations. This winter, those paid parking slots cost between $20 and $50, depending on the day.
The price of the daily parking reservations for next winter haven't been released yet but, according to Snowbird, they will be "priced dynamically based on demand." Reserved spots cost $20-$50 during the Winter 24/25 season. Snowbird has added more premium free carpool parking spots for next season. Vehicles with three or more passengers are eligible.Season-long parking passes aren't exclusive to Snowbird. Another Utah ski resort, Solitude, sold a cheaper $499 season parking pass for the 2024-2025 winter. Outside of the Beehive State, Crystal Mountain, Washington, sold a $1,999 A-Lot parking permit for the 2024-2025 season. Lake Louise, Alberta, sold a priority parking pass for CAD $749.At Snowbird, season passes for lift access are also now on sale. The Summit Pass, which includes complete access to Snowbird and no blackout dates, costs $1,439.If purchased by May 14, the Summit Pass also includes the unique Freeloader Pass for free. It can be given to any skier or snowboarder who is 18-years-old or younger."No relation is required. Cool aunts, caring neighbors and good family friends can all participate," Snowbird's website reads. The Freeloader Pass, like the Summit Pass, provides unlimited access to Snowbird.

Canadian Resort Spending $8M on New Chairlift
A Canadian ski area has big plans for a new lift in the works. Mont Sutton announced earlier this week they're installing a new chairlift ahead of the 2026/27 ski season. Three double chairs will be replaced with a new SkyTrac fixed-grip quad made by Leitner Poma. The new lift is also the first SkyTrac lift to be installed in Quebec. The new lift will load near the mountain's main lodge and have a carrying capacity of 2,400 skiers per hour. Further improvements also include relocation of an existing conveyor lift (magic carpet) and the addition of a second conveyor as well as RFID gates to the new lift. Snowmaking infrastructure will also undergo upgrades near the new chair. The new lift will have conveyor loading installed to help improve the beginner skier learning experience at Mont Sutton. The whole project will cost $8M CAD, and is funded in part by the Quebec government through a $5M grant that was awarded in 2024 by the Tourism Industry Recovery Assistance Program. Since 2016, more than $12M CAD has been invested in revitalizing the mountain into a four-season destination. A total of $23M CAD is going to infrastructure upgrades, not just for skiing, but for summer activities like a zip line, disc golf course, campsites at the summit, and mountain bike trails. This current project is the largest investment the resort has made in it's 65 year history. "This announcement is the culmination of a tremendous amount of planning work by all the teams over the past few years. Furthermore, the SkyTrac quad chairlift, thanks to the quality of the overall proposal made by Poma Canada, meets all the essential criteria that were sought to improve your experience and meet your needs expressed in recent years," said resort President and CEO Jean-Michael Ryan. Quebec is home to 75 ski areas, which is more than any other Canadian province (or US state for that matter). Skytrac's expansion into the area is significant given the monopoly Doppelmayer has had on the area's chairlifts. Public Comment Window Opens for Vail's Proposed Lift Upgrades
The White River National Forest Service has opened a public comment period over a proposal for Vail Mountain to replace and upgrade several resort has proposed a replacement of the existing Chair 21 (Orient Express), which is a high-speed quad with a 2,400 person per hour capacity. The lift would be replaced by a 6-seater lift with a capacity of 3,600 people per hour in order to improve access to the Back Bowls, and decrease lift-line wait times. Additionally, Vail wants to replace Chair 15, which is currently a three-seater, with a quad chair to increase capacity from 1,400 to 2,400 people per hour. The replacement of Chair 15 would also allow for upgraded snowmaking infrastructure that would extend the chair's length. Vail's proposal also includes grading six acres of terrain along the Two Elk ridgeline between the top of the new Chair 21 and Two Elk Lodge to improve the flow of skier traffic in the area. This grading would eliminate several flat pitches of mountain and allow for Lift 24, which is currently a platter lift, to be removed. Want to keep up with the best stories and photos in skiing? All pieces of the proposal are a part of Vail's 2023 Master Development Plan and will take place within the existing boundaries of Vail Mountain Resort. Vail is one of 11 ski areas within the White River National Forest. The Forest Service is seeking public comment on the proposal by June 6, 2025. A decision is predicted to be made by September of 2025 for an estimated project start in June of 2026. Vail Resorts made headlines earlier this week with the announcement that CEO Kristen Lynch would be replaced by former Vail CEO Rob Katz. The Epic Pass Added Six Large Austrian Ski Resorts in the Past Week
For Vail Resorts' multi-mountain pass, the Epic Pass, last week was big. Six additional Austrian resorts have been added to the Epic Pass coverage ahead of the 2025-2026 ski season, including Sölden, Silvretta Montafon, Mayrhofen, Hintertux, Saalbach, and Kitzsteinhorn. The fast-paced announcements began Wednesday, May 21, when Vail Resorts first shared in a press release that Saalbach and Kitzsteinhorn would become Epic Pass partner destinations. The latest Vail Resorts announcement, which regarded Sölden, came over the long the new destinations, Epic Pass holders will have five days of consecutive or non-consecutive access, depending on the mountain. At the Swiss resorts of Crans-Montana and Andermatt-Sedrun-Disentis, Epic Pass holders have unlimited access. Epic Pass access to other European mountains varies from destination to destination. In total, with the Epic Pass, skiers can now visit 34 European resorts across ten ski areas (European ski areas, like Andermatt-Sedrun-Disentis, can be conglomerations of multiple mountains). Vail Resorts' expanding European presence furthers a previously-stated strategy for the company. 'Entering the European ski market has been a long-term strategic priority for Vail Resorts,' said Vail Resorts' CEO, Kirsten Lynch, in a 2022 press Resorts isn't the only major multi-pass provider to eye this year, the sellers of the Ikon Pass, Alterra Mountain Company, announced that Ischgl, Austria, had been added to the Ikon Pass, marking the multi-pass' seventh European destination.
