'The older Black women and me, we got a thing': Sterling K Brown knows his fanbase
The This Is Us actor - who has sons Andrew, 13, and Amare, nine, with wife Ryan Michelle Bathe - acknowledged his popularity within a "certain set" after his friend Natasha Rothwell joked her parents' marriage almost ended in divorce because of her mom's crush on him.
In conversation for Variety's Actors on Actors series, Natasha said: "You're so charismatic and easy to watch. You almost broke up my parents' marriage. [My mother] loved Army Wives.
"I thought, 'If [Sterling] comes up here and ruins 47 years of marriage, I'm going to be upset.' "
Sterling noted: "I'm big with a certain set. The older Black women and me, we got a thing."
The 49-year-old actor caused a stir with a shower scene in his latest drama series Paradise, and Sterling admitted it makes him "happy" to know people find him attractive as he approaches 50.
He said: "I'm 49 years old, and the fact that anybody wants to see 49-year-old booty, it makes me happy."
The American Fiction star views his career as a type of "controlled schizophrenia".
He explained: "I look at this acting thing as sort of controlled schizophrenia, in that there's so many people inside of me, and each character gives me an opportunity to let one aspect of myself out. "
Sterling thinks the TV industry has changed hugely since the early days of his career, as a lot of production has moved outside of Los Angeles, and series are substantially shorter.
He said: "I remind myself that the industry is just 100 years old. When I first started, there was a thing called pilot season. There was many a network drama. There was many a serialised. There were 22 to 24 episodes. Now we're doing six or eight.
"And so much has left Los Angeles.
"I was just working in Australia, and there were seven other productions living in my hotel."
Natasha agreed: "There was a game show shooting near us in Thailand.
"There's a little bit of 'Molly, you in danger, girl' about it all."

He continued the fake rivalry two years later as his then-girlfriend Sarah Silverman performed a spoof song called I'm F****** Matt Damon, while Matt has jokingly trash talked his friend on red carpets.

'Spider-Man, not Spider-Them': Polarising non-binary actor Bella Ramsey sets internet ablaze by suggesting they could play iconic Marvel superhero
Bella Ramsey has expressed a desire to play Spider-Man. The non-binary actor made the stunning admission to Variety at an HBO Emmys nominees event in Hollywood on Sunday. Despite their characters' strained dynamic, Pascal and Ramsey formed a strong relationship on set, with Ramsey previously describing their bond as a "deep-rooted connection" and referring to them as "soul partners". In their Variety interview, Ramsey said they had missed the Gladiator II star and had been searching for him at the Emmys event. 'Most of our texts consist of, 'Where in the world are you? I'm here, are you there? Oh, we just missed each other,' Ramsey said. They added they would like to be cast alongside Pascal again and trade the post-apocalyptic set world for an action-packed crime thriller. 'I think maybe like a heist movie where we're robbing a bank together,' Ramsey said.

Jeremy Allen White's Bruce Springsteen biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere has been added to the New York Film Festival line-up. The film, directed by 54-year-old Scott Cooper, has been selected as the Spotlight Gala event and will screen on 28 September at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center in New York. Bruce Springsteen, 74, will attend the premiere alongside 33-year-old Jeremy Allen White, 45-year-old Jeremy Strong and 26-year-old Odessa Young. The movie will hold its world premiere at an earlier, separate venue before its festival presentation, according to organisers. Adapted from Warren Zanes's biography, Deliver Me From Nowhere depicts Bruce at a turning point in the early 1980s, as he gained recognition while working on his 1982 acoustic album Nebraska. At the same time, he was developing the demos for Born in the U.S.A., the record that would establish him as a global star. Jeremy Strong portrays Jon Landau, Bruce's longtime manager and record producer, while Odessa Young plays a romantic figure in the musician's life. Director Scott was quoted by Variety saying: 'The New York Film Festival has always felt like a spiritual home for the kind of cinema I believe in. 'To now arrive with a film about Bruce Springsteen — an artist whose music shaped not just a country but my own sense of storytelling — is something I could never have imagined. 'Getting to know Bruce, to explore his world and his spirit, has been one of the most profound creative experiences of my life. 'To share that experience with New York audiences, in a city that defines artistic possibility, is both an honor and a responsibility I hold with deep gratitude.' Dennis Lim, 51, the artistic director of the New York Film Festival, described the project as a 'fitting tribute to a living legend'. He said: 'Taking its cue from the stark majesty of Bruce Springsteen's classic album Nebraska, Scott Cooper's Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere has an intimacy and immediacy that eludes most film biographies.' This year's New York Film Festival will open on 26 September with 53-year-old Luca Guadagnino's After the Hunt. Director Jim Jarmusch, 71, will present his Father Mother Sister Brother as the festival's centrepiece, while 50-year-old Bradley Cooper will close the event with his dramatic comedy Is This Thing On?
