Gregg Wallace: Over half of allegations against MasterChef presenter upheld, including one of unwanted physical contact

Yahoo14-07-2025
An investigation into Gregg Wallace's "inappropriate behaviour" on MasterChef has found that more than half of the allegations against him have been substantiated, including one of "unwanted physical contact".
MasterChef's production company Banijay UK shared a summary of its report into historical allegations of misconduct against the 60-year-old presenter, carried out by independent law firm Lewis Silkin over seven months.
The report also said the number of sustained allegations made Wallace's return to MasterChef "untenable".
The investigation heard evidence from 78 witnesses, including 41 complainants.
There were 83 allegations against Wallace, and 45 of them were substantiated. All were related to MasterChef.
While the majority of the substantiated allegations related to inappropriate sexual language and humour, a smaller number of allegations of other inappropriate language and being in a state of undress were also substantiated.
One allegation of unwanted physical contact was substantiated.
Nearly all the allegations against Wallace were related to behaviour which is said to have occurred between 2005 and 2018, with just one substantiated allegation taking place post-2018.
Ahead of the publication of the summary, made against him.
Additionally, the report summary found that there were also 10 standalone allegations about other people between 2012 and 2018/2019, two of which were substantiated. Those people were not named in the summary.
The investigation found that complaints had previously been raised with the production company between 2005 and 2024.
While the report flagged inadequate reporting procedures prior to 2016, when Endemol merged with Shine ahead of Banijay acquiring Endemol Shine in 2020, it said there were significant improvements to HR processes and training after 2016.
While the investigation said some formal action was taken by the BBC in 2017, it also noted the corporation held no information regarding concerns raised over Wallace centrally, resulting in issues being addressed as a first offence.
Sky News has tried to contact Gregg Wallace for contact today.
Responding to the findings of the report, the BBC said the corporation had "no plans to work with [Wallace] in future," saying his behaviour "falls below the values of the BBC".
The BBC said "opportunities were missed" to address Wallace's behaviour, adding, "We accept more could and should have been done sooner".
In relation to the allegations against other individuals flagged in the report, the BBC said they had asked Banijay UK to take action to address these issues, and said it would "be completed as a priority".
The corporation have yet to decide if the MasterChef series that was filmed with Wallace last year will still be aired.
Sky News has also contacted the Creative Industries Independent Standards Authority (CIISA) standards for comment.

Train services across North West facing disruption after 'delibrate act of vandalism'

Train services across the North West are facing major disruption after vandals cut cables in several locations. Emergency work is now taking place to restore the signalling system for the West Coast Main Line, causing major disruption to service across the North West, to Scotland and London Euston. Network Rail engineers have found that the cables carrying vital information that allows trains to move safely around the network have been cut in several locations along the track at Bamfurlong, near Wigan. Described as a 'deliberate act of vandalism', it is being investigated by British Transport Police and Network Rail is assisting with attempting to identify the criminals. Due to the severity of the damage and the complexity of the repairs, it is likely disruption to train journeys will last into tomorrow (Thursday 21 August). Phil James, North West route director said: This is an appalling act of criminal vandalism and I am sorry for the disruption that passengers have faced today. Our teams are hard at work making repairs which are very complex due to the nature of this vandalism. While this work carries on, train journeys across the North West and on the West Coast Mainline will continue to be disrupted. We are working closely with the train operators to provide what service while the necessary and complicated repair continues. Chris Jackson, Managing Director at TransPennine Express, said: It's really disappointing to, once again, see so many of our customers' journeys impacted by attempted cable theft. As an industry we have worked hard to tackle this issue and will continue to work together to support British Transport Police in any subsequent investigations. I'd like to thank our customers for their ongoing patience as we do all we can to keep them on the move, and call on anyone planning to travel to check carefully for any changes to their journeys. Tricia Williams, managing director for Northern, said: This disgraceful act of vandalism has caused severe disruption for our customers, as we have been forced to close lines and cancel services between Blackpool, Liverpool Lime Street and Wigan. Rail replacement buses are running for customers and ticket acceptance is in place, allowing them to travel via alternative routes with other train operators for no extra cost. We are sorry for the disruption and are working closely with Network Rail so we can restore services at the earliest opportunity.

Ex-police officer pleads guilty to stalking woman

A former police officer made a woman feel vulnerable and unsafe by repeatedly approaching and asking her out, a court has heard. Ex-Devon and Cornwall Police Constable Kevin Davis, 41, of Seaton, pleaded guilty to stalking and misconduct in public office charges during a hearing at Exeter Magistrates' Court. The court was told David repeatedly messaged the woman, approached her at the gym and searched for her 24 times on systems at work over a three-month period, including while on annual leave. District Judge Stuart Smith said Davis would be sentenced on 17 September. Devon and Cornwall Police said the force was not making any comments at this time. 'Spy on her' Prosecuting, Warjinder Bains said Davis made "repeated unwanted comments" on social media posts to the victim and asked her out several times in January. She added Davis then turned up at the woman's gym to try and speak to her. "The defendant used his position as a police officer to look her up on the police system to, in effect, spy on her, accessing the system also on his off-duty periods, including when he was on annual leave," she said. The judge said the offences were "very serious" and ordered a pre-sentence report to be written ahead of sentencing. Davis was granted bail with a condition not to contact the complainant.
