William Could Be King ‘Earlier than Expected' & His 1st Order Is For Harry to Be ‘Harshly Dealt With' For the ‘Ultimate Windsor Crime'

Yahoo16-04-2025

There's a lot of layers to the issues of what will happen when Prince William takes the throne. And the reality is that it is probably coming sooner rather than later. King Charles is still battling cancer. Prince William is stepping up in his duties to help his father, who reportedly isn't keen to hand over the throne anytime soon. But his health and his age might leave the decision out of his hands.
'The people I've spoken to have said that the succession planning, as they call it, began even before Charles' diagnosis,' royal author Tom Quinn told Harper's Bazaar recently. 'I mean, he's the oldest Prince of Wales to become king in history, so succession planning had begun before Charles came to the throne simply because of the age issue.'

Prince William has also retained new legal representation, switching lawyers from Harbottle & Lewis and its partner, Gerrard Tyrrell—the same lawyers his father used—to Mishcon de Reya, which represented Princess Diana in her divorce from Charles. 'William wanted to strike out on his own,' a source told the Daily Mail about the change. 'He did not want to continue using his father's lawyers. It's as simple as that. He wants to be his own man.'
And part of wanting to be his own man is William wanting to strike a much harsher tone with his brother, Prince Harry. 'It's no secret William wants Harry more harshly dealt with. He thinks he has betrayed the family from top to bottom, which is the ultimate Windsor crime. It wouldn't take much to provoke him to flex his muscles when he is king,' a palace insider told The Daily Beast.
Meghan Markle recently reposted a message from the vice president of Ukraine that addressed her as 'Your Royal Highness.' However, the outlet made it clear that King Charles wasn't taking that all too seriously. 'Charles isn't going to open a new front in the civil war on the basis of one Instagram post, and it's not as if they are calling themselves HRH,' another source told the outlet. 'I think everyone is pretty clear, at this stage, what the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's position in the family is.'
Another insider told the outlet that while Prince William has a lot of influence on policy, that doesn't extend to Harry. 'Charles has a softly-softly attitude to Harry and Meghan, and so that's the policy for now, but the gloves will be off when [William] inherits the throne. If they started using the HRH titles on a regular basis, he would take them away for good,' the source said.
Some were outraged at fact that Markle even reposted the comment. 'It's outrageous. Every time you think they can't make it worse, they make it worse,' another source added. 'The deal with the HRH was a way to stop them cashing in while letting them walk away with pride and dignity and trust, and now Markle is using her HRH on a website which seems to exist to sell jam.'
'It's actually quite a clever way of testing the water, because there is deniability there, she can say, 'Well, I just wanted to publish this nice letter to raise awareness for Ukraine, and oops! they got my name wrong — but oh, actually, now I think of it, I never gave the title up anyway, and maybe I will start using it again,'' another source said.
Whether these sources are just echoing Prince William's sentiments or not, the consensus seems to be that when he's King, things are expected to change. And that means Harry and Meghan are likely to lose their titles. The question is, will they care?

Say Hello to San Francisco's First Women's Sports Bar

San Francisco's first women's sports bar opens Wednesday, June 11, on Market Street. Rikki's throws open its doors to a city ready for lots of women's basketball; the Golden State Valkyries' inaugural season is underway to huge fanfare. Co-founders Danielle Thoe and Sara Yergovich told the San Francisco Chronicle the name honors Rikki Streicher, a gay San Francisco athlete who opened two now-closed queer women's bars in San Francisco, Maud's and Amelia's. This opening makes the bar the first in the Bay Area dedicated exclusively to women's sports. Fifteen TVs stretch across the space; pop-up Rikki's parties around the city have brought in some 150 fans per event. There's a full liquor license available, and local beers, including the aptly named Local Brewing Co. on tap, with food available for hungry sports fans, as well. Rikki's is open Tuesday through Sunday from 3:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. on weekdays and until midnight on Friday and Saturday. Sacramento sells tacos to fight fascism NorCal Resist coordinated a demonstration on Sunday, June 8, in defiance of the federal government's invasion of Los Angeles's immigrant communities. To keep the momentum going, the group will work with Radio Xicanismo for a Tacos & Corridos event on Saturday, July 26, at 2 p.m. Guests will get three tacos with rice and beans for $30 at the Latino Center of Art and Culture. Tickets are on sale now. Another Divisadero Street restaurant suffers from a fire In an unlucky streak for the vibrant business corridor, Banh Mi Viet closed due to a fire. It broke out around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, and no one was injured. This makes another shutdown on Divisadero Street in recent years; Ethiopian restaurant Oasis Cafe and adjoining Kava Lounge have been closed since a major fire in 2022, as did Phuket on the other end of the strip. Mainstay Berkeley restaurant closes for good The team behind the beloved El Patio in Berkeley let fans know via Instagram of the restaurant's impending finale: The last day of service will be Friday, July 4. There was no reason given for the closure. More than that, the post says the catering and events arm of the business is still operational. Sign up for our newsletter.

Prince William Visits Monaco to Warn of Urgent Need to Protect the Ocean

Prince William has made a solo trip to Monaco to deliver a keynote speech on the need to protect the ocean. The Prince of Wales was welcomed by the country's Prince Albert as he arrived this morning to attend the Blue Economy and Finance Forum. William was invited to the event in his capacity as founder of the Earthshot Prize, an initiative that has seen him step up his visibility as a leader on environmental issues. 'Put simply: the ocean is under enormous threat, but it can revive itself. But, only if together, we act now,' the Prince said at Monaco's event venue the Grimaldi Forum. 'Let us act together with urgency and optimism while we still have the chance.' William's Earthshot Prize was designed to encourage optimism over what can be done to protect the planet. Every year, it awards £1 million each in prize money to solutions across five categories. One of those categories is Revive Our Oceans, and William was joined at the event in Monaco by several Earthshot finalists and winners. A royal aide described William's appearance at the forum today as part of his work as a global statesman. While members of the royal family cannot be political, they are able to raise awareness around humanitarian issues and subjects of national and global concern. Just like his father King Charles and his grandfather Prince Philip, Prince William feels passionately about the importance of using his platform to speak out about the environment. An aide previously disclosed that William started the Earthshot Prize because he wanted to be able to look his children in the eye and say he had done everything he could to fight climate change. Ahead of the Prince's appearance at the Monaco forum, which took place on World Oceans Day and ahead of a UN Ocean conference which starts Monday, Kensington Palace released a video of William in conversation with Sir David Attenborough. The celebrated naturalist, who has recently made a film about the Ocean, told the Prince of his concerns over damage to the ocean floor. "What we have done to the deep ocean floor is just unspeakably awful,' Sir David said. 'I mean, if you did anything remotely like it on land, everybody would be up in arms. If this film does anything, if it just shifts public awareness, it'll be very, very important. And I only hope that people who see it will recognize that something must be done before we destroy this great treasure.'
