Twins place All-Star center fielder Byron Buxton on 10-day injured list with rib injury
The move, retroactive to Sunday, comes after Buxton was removed from the Twins' game against the Washington Nationals in the seventh inning on Saturday with soreness in his side. An MRI on Sunday revealed irritation in the cartilage in his rib cage.
Buxton is in the midst of a career season. In 85 games, Buxton is hitting .282 with 23 home runs and 59 RBIs. He's also 17 for 17 in stolen bases.
The 31-year-old has been mostly healthy this season, which has not always been the case. Since playing in 140 games in 2017, he hadn't played in more than 102 games in any season.
Buxton spent 15 days on the IL in late May with a concussion and rebounded to earn his second All-Star Game nod.

After putting himself on the map with five Pro Bowl appearances and several All-Pro nods in Philadelphia, Allen started all 48 games he played for the Saints from 1995 (when he was selected for his sixth, and final, Pro Bowl appearance) to 1997. He closed out his career with four years on the Oakland Raiders, retiring after the 2001 season. Allen finished his career with 54 interceptions, returning 8 of them for touchdowns, as well as 6 forced fumbles and 7 fumble recoveries. He was credited with 787 combined tackles (730 of them solo stops), and he started 214 of his 217 games played in the regular season. Only two cornerbacks have more starts in NFL history: Ronde Barber (216) and the immortal Darrell Green (248). Now Allen has joined them at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Lakers' Adou Thiero spotted working out at team practice facility
Los Angeles Lakers rookie Adou Thiero was pictured working out at the team practice facility on Friday in preparation for his upcoming rookie campaign in the NBA. Thiero averaged a career-high 15.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.6 steals on 54.5% shooting from the field in 27 games as a junior last season at Arkansas. He was tied for the most points on the team (407), despite missing eight games due to a left knee hyperextension. The 36th pick has been around for much of the offseason after missing summer league as he continued to recover from his knee injury. He was also among those on hand to support Luka Dončić after the five-time All-Star signed a three-year, $165 million contract extension on Saturday. Thiero registered eight 20-point performances with the Razorbacks, including a season-high 26 points and 10 rebounds on Dec. 7 in a win over UTSA. He ranked second in the SEC in field-goal percentage and eighth in box plus-minus (plus-10.6). The 21-year-old Thiero reportedly agreed to sign a three-year, $5.95 million contract with the Lakers via the second-round pick exception. The first two years are guaranteed on the contract, which includes a team option in the last season. After missing summer league, Thiero is expected to be ready for the start of training camp next month. He is working to prepare himself to contribute to the team and is eager to get to work.

Byron Buxton looks to be a calming presence in Twins' clubhouse after a flurry of deadline moves
CLEVELAND (AP) — Every time Byron Buxton picked up his phone Thursday afternoon, there was a text message or news ping that one of his Minnesota Twins teammates was being traded. Two days later, Buxton was still trying to take in all the moves the Twins made as the front office made nine trades and turned over nearly 40% of the roster. Even though the All-Star center fielder is on the 10-day injured list with left ribcage inflammation, Buxton joined the Twins in Cleveland for this weekend's series as the franchise's clubhouse leader wanted to be there to provide support and be a sounding board for teammates. 'I mean ,trading nine guys like that is something that's not normal, so it was a little bit of a shock for sure,' Buxton said before Saturday's game. 'Right now, obviously, I haven't processed it. I don't know who has processed it, but something we'll talk about a little bit more at the end of the season.' Manager Rocco Baldelli said that having Buxton on the trip was important, not only for the support that he can give, but also because he remains on track to rejoin the lineup on Wednesday when the Twins are at Detroit. 'Keeping him with our trainers here and being able to get on the field here with the group when he's ready was important, but also the support that he's going to be giving the guys around him. Everybody looks to him, everyone looks to see how he'll respond to things, and he's a passionate guy. He cares about his teammates and his team and guys respect him immensely.' Buxton said he understands that baseball is a business and he anticipated moves were going to be made near the deadline. However, the amount of turnover was surprising. The Twins' most-significant move near the deadline was when shortstop Carlos Correa was dealt to Houston. Correa broke into the majors with the Astros and still has a house in Houston as he waived his no-trade clause. 'It's one of those things where you didn't think he was going to leave but with the opportunity that was ahead of him and just him being an Astro before, it's hard to pass that up in his situation. I couldn't be happier for him and his family. It is what's best for him,' Buxton said about Correa. While there are a lot of unknowns about the Twins as the team remains for sale, Buxton is trying to focus on the present. That includes making sure the new faces on the team can get acclimated quickly as well as trying to make sure the season doesn't spiral too much out of control. Minnesota won the AL Central in 2023, but missed the playoffs with an 82-80 mark last season. The Twins entered Saturday at 51-58 and on a three-game losing streak. 'These guys coming up, I don't want them to look at this as 'I finally got a shot.' You came up here because you want to win and you want to be better. So it's just playing together and having each other's backs is going to be the biggest thing going forward,' he said. ___
