Two of the most well-known names in sports are Patrick Mahomes and Lionel Messi. With millions of fans and countless honors, Mahomes—the NFL quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs and Messi, a worldwide football legend who now plays for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer, have many admirers.
One of them seems, however, to be the highlight in the United States. A recent talk on Fox Sports Radio raised a surprising point—Patrick Mahomes may be more popular than Lionel Messi in America. Even though Lionel Messi is a global icon, some believe Patrick Mahomes holds the spotlight here at home.
Patrick Mahomes appears to be more popular than Lionel Messi in the U.S., according to Fox radio hosts
Hosting the Covino and Rich Show on Fox Sports Radio on Friday, June 14, 2025, Steve Covino and Rich Davis arrived at an interesting conclusion: Which sports star is bigger in the U. S. ? Patrick Mahomes or Lionel Messi?
Steve Covino said he believes Patrick Mahomes is still ahead in terms of fame in America.
He explained, 'I'm going Mahomes. It's America's game.'The hosts pointed out that football has a stronger hold in U.S. culture than soccer.
Even though Lionel Messi came to support the Kansas City Chiefs at Super Bowl LVIII in New Orleans earlier this year, Patrick Mahomes still gets more attention. That Super Bowl was one of the most-watched events in the country, but even Lionel Messi's appearance didn't change the fact that NFL players get more media buzz in America.
They also shared that even with a slight 2% drop in NFL viewership this season, the league still leads all sports in U.S. television ratings.
Lionel Messi's global fame still can't top Patrick Mahomes' American spotlight
Rich Davis said on air, 'If you ask 100 kids in middle or high school who they want to visit their school, most would say Mahomes.' He also added, 'Soccer is growing, and the younger generation is starting to care more.'
Still, both Steve Covino and Rich Davis agreed that Lionel Messi is much bigger around the world. Steve Covino said, 'Messi owns the rest of the world. No question.' But he ended the talk by saying Patrick Mahomes remains the face of American sports today.

Not an Eagles fan but still got a naked Jason Kelce tattoo? This woman explains her wild reason

Woman gets Jason Kelce nude tattoo—and she's not even an Eagles fan! Here's her wild reason why (Getty Images) Lauren Philpot might bleed blue as a loyal New York Giants fan, but her skin now proudly bears a viral tribute to a Philadelphia Eagles legend—Jason Kelce, in the nude. And no, she's not jumping ship. The story behind the ink isn't about team allegiance. It's about a wild bet she made with her husband during the 2022-23 NFL season—one she lost, and paid for with permanent body art. 'This is who I am as a person – a bet is a bet,' Philpot told TMZ Sports. 'If I get it covered up, I still went through with it. No, I don't care. It's a funny story. It's something that my husband and I like to do.' Why this woman chose Jason Kelce 's naked body for a tattoo will leave you speechless The tattoo, which shows Kelce in his now-iconic locker room celebration pose—nearly nude and all smiles—took roughly three to three-and-a-half hours to complete. While Lauren doesn't recall the exact cost, she insists it was affordable and more than worth it for the laughs and the story that came with it. Jason Kelce Tattoo Owner Has No Regrets, Big Fan Of Eagles Legend! | TMZ Sports Even more surprising than the ink itself is Philpot's continued loyalty to the Giants. Despite the design featuring a division rival, she holds no bitterness. 'Although I'm a Giants fan, I have a lot of respect for the Eagles and what they are like as a team,' she explained. 'So, who else am I going to put on my arm? Jason Kelce.' Kelce himself saw the tattoo making the rounds online and reacted with good humor. Initially unsure, he posted, 'I'm not sure if I should be offended or flattered.' But after sitting with it for a while, he responded with, 'I think it's more flattered… it's a generous bird, good-sized head.' Philpot said she saw the post and hopes Kelce understands it was all done in admiration. Interestingly, he's not the only NFL player she's had permanently inked on her body. She also sports Gardner Minshew's iconic mustache above one of her knees—an equally quirky tribute to another colorful character in the league. As for what's next? The Philpots are already cooking up another bet for the 2025-26 NFL season, and the stakes might once again involve tattoos. 'We usually ask people, our friends, and stuff, or maybe take a poll on Facebook,' she shared. 'I am open to it, whether it's a tattoo or if I have to take [my husband] somewhere, vice versa. I'm open to whatever.' In a world where NFL fandom often turns heated, Lauren Philpot has managed to keep things light, fun, and just a little bit outrageous. And thanks to a bet gone viral, Jason Kelce's legacy now includes a place in tattoo history—on the arm of a Giants fan, no less. Spaun captures first major title with US Open victory

JJ Spaun delivered a dramatic finish at Oakmont on Sunday, sinking a stunning 65-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to win the US Open and claim his first major championship . The 34-year-old American overcame a rocky start that included five bogeys in his first six holes, holding his nerve down the stretch. Spaun finished at one-under-par 279 for the tournament, securing a two-shot victory over Scotland's Robert MacIntyre . by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Switch to UnionBank Rewards Card UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Norway's Viktor Hovland took third place at two-over 282. The win marks a career-defining moment for Spaun, who battled back in style to earn golf's ultimate prize. — usopengolf (@usopengolf) Live Events "I never thought I would be holding this trophy," Spaun said. "I'm proud I've been so resilient in my career." Trailing for much of the final round, Spaun mounted a stunning comeback as US Open leaders Sam Burns and Australia's Adam Scott faltered down the stretch. Spaun, who became the first US Open champion to bogey the first three holes of his final round, rallied with four birdies over the last seven holes. He drained a 40-foot birdie putt at the par-five 12th, followed by a 22-footer at the 14th. After a setback with a bogey at 15, he responded with a crucial tap-in birdie at 17 before sealing the victory with a dramatic 65-foot birdie bomb on the 18th. — usopengolf (@usopengolf) "When I hit it I thought it was short," Spaun said. "But about eight feet out it was looking pretty good. "It's just one of those moments in major championships when you seal the deal." Spaun claimed the biggest win of his career, taking home the $4.3 million top prize after an emotional finish at Oakmont. Spaun, whose only previous PGA Tour win came at the 2022 Texas Open, wiped away tears as fans chanted his name following his clutch 65-foot birdie putt on the 18th green. A 96-minute weather delay before the back nine proved pivotal, giving Spaun time to regroup before launching a late charge. Meanwhile, Sam Burns collapsed with a five-over start through 12 holes, opening the door for a crowded leaderboard. — usopengolf (@usopengolf) Spain's Jon Rahm closed with three straight birdies to shoot 67 and finish at 284, tied for seventh with Burns and World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. Rory McIlroy , fresh off his Masters triumph, carded a 67 to finish on 287 as he now sets his sights on next month's Open Championship at Royal Portrush.
