IAF becomes more powerful after HAL makes deadly fighter plane, it can fire missiles 'nonstop' for...
India is continuously modernising its fighter jets and recently HAL has developed Tejas Mk2 and gave an upgrade to IAF and its capabilities. Interestingly, PM Modi on Independence Day urged the young scientists, talented youth, engineers, professionals and all departments of the Government that India should have its own Made in India fighter jets, following the specular success in Operation Sindoor
What is the new advancement?
A new fuel system will be installed in this jet, which will also include additional fuel tanks. These upgrades will increase its flight distance so much that it will be able to attack enemy targets by penetrating deep.
What is the new speciality of Tejas Mk2?
The biggest feature of Tejas Mk2 is its increased fuel capacity, which makes it very different from Tejas Mk1. The internal fuel capacity of Tejas Mk2 is higher than Tejas Mk1. At the same time, three new external fuel tanks will be installed in this jet, which will further increase its total fuel capacity. These include one 1300-litre supersonic drop tank and two 1800-litre special 'pinched-waist' drop tanks. Thus, with all these tanks, Tejas Mk2 will have capacity of 6000-kg fuel.
How will this technology change the game?
This new technology will have a direct impact on Tejas Mk2. With this increased fuel capacity, the combat distance of Tejas Mk2 will increase to more than 1000 kilometers. This means that it will be able to attack enemy targets from a distance. Also, this jet can patrol continuously in the air for 3.5 hours. Apart from this, due to the in-flight refueling and oxygen production system, it can also do missions of up to 10 hours.
In such a case, because of the higher fuel capacity, there will be no need to reduce the weapons on the jet, so that it will be able to go on the mission with its full firepower.

Catholic priest's presence at RSS event in Pala raises eyebrows

At a time when the Catholic Church in Kerala has been voicing concern over attacks on Christians in central and northern States of India, the participation of a priest from the Pala diocese of the Syro-Malabar Church at an event of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has raised a few eyebrows. Father George Nellikunnu Cherivu Purayidom, director of Care Homes project under the Pala diocese and Deepika Friends Club, presided over Shankholi 2025, a student summit jointly organised by the Poonjar, Meenachil and Ramapuram units of the RSS on August 15. Addressing the gathering, Father Purayidom said that it was the generation inspired by India's spiritual heritage and the freedom struggle that went on to shape modern India. Today's younger generation must strive to project the nation's glory on the world stage, making effective use of organisation and technology. The keynote address at the summit was delivered by Desheeya Adhyapaka Parishat State vice-president Jigi Mash. However, the event has already raised a few eyebrows within the Catholic Church, especially in the wake of recent attacks on nuns and priests from Kerala in Chhattisgarh and Odisha, allegedly by Sangh Parivar activists. 'This only reflects how sections of the Catholic clergy remain insensitive to the sufferings of their fellow believers in BJP-ruled states,' observed another priest, reacting to the priest's presence. The instance has also triggered debates on social media and within the Catholic community. When contacted, Fr. Purayidom clarified that he had attended the event with the knowledge of Pala Bishop Joseph Kallarangatt. 'I decided to attend since the programme was related to Independence Day. I went there on the organisers' invitation and delivered a speech on the theme of the event. There is no need to misconstrue this in any other way,' he explained. Commenting on the issue, Fr. Jhoseph Thadathil, Vicar General of the diocese, maintained that the priest must have attended the event in his personal capacity. 'The diocese, as a matter of principle, does not interfere in the affairs of any political organisation, nor does it extend support to any. The diocese has nothing to do with the event, even if the said priest attended it,' he clarified.

Let us build an India not just of tall buildings but of noble ideals: Kataria

Calling on citizens to contribute to nation-building, UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria Friday said: 'Let us build an India not just of tall buildings but of noble ideals — an India where development is inclusive, and where every citizen works with commitment and love for the nation's progress.' Kataria, who was the chief guest during the 79th Independence Day celebrations at Parade Ground, Sector 17, highlighted the key achievements of Chandigarh's development, law enforcement, education, governance, environment, and health infrastructure. He spoke about the successful rollout of the new criminal justice system, power sector reforms, and initiatives such as free uniforms, recruitment of teachers, and the enhancement of school facilities. Kataria praised Chandigarh's environmental efforts, including rooftop solar expansion and a floating solar plant in Sector 39, while also noting progress in e-governance, public safety, sanitation, and digital services. Addressing the gathering, Kataria extended greetings to citizens and recalled the sacrifices of India's freedom fighters, with a special mention of Punjab's immense contribution to the freedom struggle. He paid homage to Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru, Lala Lajpat Rai, Udham Singh, Kartar Singh Sarabha, Madan Lal Dhingra, and other martyrs who inspired generations with their courage and commitment. He also highlighted India's unwavering stand against terrorism, lauding the swift military responses in Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev, carried out after the Pahalgam attack. On Punjab, Kataria commended welfare schemes such as free healthcare, electricity benefits, educational investments, and sports promotion, stressing the importance of transparency and accountability in governance. A special feature of this year's celebration was the participation of 50 hearing- and speech-impaired individuals, who viewed the parade with real-time sign language interpretation, ensuring inclusivity in the festivities. On the occasion, Kataria honoured 34 Chandigarh Administration employees and civilians with commendation certificates for excellence in public service, arts and culture, social work, and sports. The Administrator's Police Medal was awarded to 24 Chandigarh Police personnel, while three officers received the President's Police Medal for their distinguished services. To mark the occasion, the Administrator declared Monday, August 18, as a holiday for all government, government-aided, and private schools in Chandigarh. The event was attended by Rajeev Verma, Chief Secretary of Chandigarh; Sagar Preet Hooda, Director General of Police; and other senior officials of the administration and police.

Historic T-55 tank ‘Shivashakti' now in Ranebennur

The historic T-55 war tank 'Shivashakti', which was used in the historic Indo-Pak war for Bangladesh liberation will now be on public display in Ranebennur of Haveri district. The historic tank will now be on display permanently before the Mini Vidhana Soudha in Ranebennur, thanks to the interest taken by Ranebennur MLA Prakash Koliwad. During the Independence Day celebration on Friday, Speaker of Karnataka Legislative Assembly U.T. Khader unveiled the tank. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Prakash Koliwad said: 'The display of the war tank is a way of honouring the brave soldiers, who led the tank in the war field. It is also aimed at inspiring the youngsters and sensitising them about country's military power'. Speaker U.T. Khader termed the installation of the tank at Ranebennur as a matter of pride for the whole State. 'It inspires the younger generation to know more about the history our military and take pride in it'. He also called on everyone to understand the history and be patriotic and contribute towards nation building. History During the Indo-Pak war in 1965, the necessity of armored fighting vehicles was felt by the Indian Army. Therefore, the Indian government approached European countries for the supply of battle tanks. The T-55 tank was procured during the period 1966-77. It was the main battle tank at that period of time and as per the prevailing policy, it was to have a life of 15 years with one mid-life overhaul. This T55 tank was procured from Russia during the war between Indo-Pak for Bangla liberation in 1971, named Shivashakti and it helped army men to succeed in their mission and to achieve victory. Shivashakti belongs to assault regiment of Indian Army and has been procured from the Central Army Fighting Vehicle Depot at Kirkee in Pune (Maharashtra). The tank has been installed in Ranebennur utilising ₹15 lakh released from the MLA's local area development fund and ₹9.85 lakh from the municipal grants.
