UNC football class of 2026 commit has impressive 2025 debut on Friday night

Will Travis Burgess be UNC's next quarterback of the future?
The North Carolina Tar Heels are no stranger to landing high-profile quarterback recruits. Just ask Drake Maye and Sam Howell, who are both now NFL quarterbacks.
UNC signed another highly-touted QB in its 2025 recruiting class: in-state, 4-star recruit Bryce Baker. Currently, 4-star quarterback Travis Burgess is one of North Carolina's most exciting, class of 2026 prospects.
Speaking of Burgess, his senior high school season began with an exciting debut last Friday. In Grayson High School's 51-3 domination of Suwanee Collins Hill High, Burgess scored four touchdowns: three through the air, plus one on the ground.
Burgess' TD passes went for 74, 32 and 23 yards, while his touchdown run accounted for 41 of his 96 rushing yards. Not a bad way to start your final year of high school ball.
While Burgess tears his way through Georgia this fall, the Tar Heels have a quarterback battle they need to quickly solve.
UNC returns initial 2024 starter Max Johnson, but he spent most of last season – and a good portion of this offseason – recovering from a broken leg sustained against Minnesota. North Carolina addressed this by adding Gio Lopez, a dual-threat southpaw quarterback, from South Alabama in the transfer portal. Baker could see action, too, while the Tar Heels also have freshman Au'Tori Newkirk and Gary Merrill in the QB room.
Johnson is gone next season, so that leaves Lopez, Baker, Newkirk, Merrill and Burgess up for UNC's 2026 starting QB gig. If Burgess continues to deliver performances like Friday night's, Bill Belichick might want to consider giving a true freshman the keys to his offense.

Watch Michigan State football WR Rodney Bullard talk transition from D2 to Big Ten

Michigan State football is in the middle of camp, preparing itself for the 2025 season, looking to have a big bounce back year for Jonathan Smith in year two of his tenure at Michigan State. On Monday, Smith spoke to the media, along with Courtney Hawkins and Nick Marsh, but to round out the media availability was veteran wide receiver Rodney Bullard. Bullard, a transfer from Valdosta State, is in his first year with the Spartans program. While Bullard has been standing out in camp, he made it a point that he is hungry to prove himself at the top level of college football, coming from the division two level. ESPN's Football Power Index gives Spartans slim chances of reaching bowl

The computers and numbers behind ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) are not high on the Spartans reaching a bowl game this season. While the Spartans' win total over/under is set at 5.5 (with some sports book juicing it to the over), the FPI rating system is giving Michigan State a less than 50-50 chance of reaching a bowl game this fall. According to a post from The Big Ten Huddle, the Spartans are given only a 31% chance to reach six wins to become bowl eligible. Among Big Ten teams, only Northwestern and Purdue have lower odds from FPI to reach a bowl game this season. Northwestern comes in at 27.8%, while Purdue is listed at a near impossible 1.8%. Michigan State is the only team from the Big Ten to not reach the postseason at least once in the last three years. The Spartans finished last season with a 5-7 record in year one under head coach Jonathan Smith, and are expecting a better record this upcoming season. The Spartans officially kick off the 2025 season on August 29 against Western Michigan. Kickoff from Spartan Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, with the game set to be televised on FS1. NASCAR says Michael Jordan antitrust suit is to force permanent charter no other team has

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — NASCAR argued in its latest court filing that Michael Jordan is suing the stock car series to earn a permanent charter that no other teams possess, and that neither 23XI Racing nor Front Row Motorsports has suffered any harm by racing as 'open' entries. NASCAR also indicated in its 34-page response filed late Monday that it has buyers interested in the six charters that have been set aside as a federal judge decides if the two teams can have them back for the remaining 11 races of this season. NASCAR is prepared to immediately begin the process of allocating the charters elsewhere.
