Miley Cyrus breaks silence on family feud rumours with emotional statement
Miley Cyrus has broken her silence on rumours of a family feud with dad Billy Ray Cyrus and mum Tish Cyrus after her mother unfollowed the actress and singer on social media
Miley Cyrus has quashed rumours of a falling out with her parents, insisting that she and her mum Tish are tighter than ever. The pop sensation took to her Instagram Story to clear the air after it was noticed that mum Tish seemingly unfollowed her on social media—an incident Miley chalks up to a tech mishap.
In her flying-the-flag-for-mum moment, Miley made sure everyone knew they were still chummy as can be: "She's my best friend. Like a lot of moms, she doesn't know how to work her phone and somehow unfollowed me - simple, coincidental and uninteresting."
For her part, Tish echoed this sentiment, explaining the social media snafu once it was pointed out by an eagle-eyed fan.
Laughing it off, she clarified: "I didn't. Idk what happened lol. I have no idea how that happened but it's fixed now [pink heart emoji]."
Tish further emphasised the solidity of their bond on the platform with an emphatic statement: "I would never unfollow Miley, her and I are as close as we've ever been. Period. Little [heart] emoji @mileycyrus."
Likewise, Miley underlined her enduring connection with dad Billy Ray in light of past difficulties. The 'Wrecking Ball' songstress admitted: "My dad and I have had our challenges over the years."
Miley went on: "Now, in my 30s, family is my priority above all else. I'm at peace knowing bridges have been built and time has done a lot of healing."
She continued: "Grateful for the good health and love that flows through my family."
However, in a previous conversation with chat show host David Letterman on 'My Next Guess Needs No Introduction' last year, Miley credited her mum with her upbringing but acknowledged the significant impact her dad had on her music career.
She said: "Without my dad, I know - I mean, not just literally I wouldn't be sitting in this chair, I wouldn't exist - but I would not, who I am as a person, it wouldn't exist.
"Because my dad, as a creative and as an artist in the way that his brain works, has always made me feel safer in my own mind because we're very similar in our ideas."
Miley added: "So I think a lot of his perspective on reality and on life, I've inherited from him, more so than the way that I was raised - which really, my mom raised me."

Miley Cyrus expresses regret over infamous Sinéad O'Connor row
US musician Miley Cyrus has expressed regret over her infamous public row with Sinéad O'Connor in 2013. The Irish singer, who died in 2023, called out then 20-year-old Cyrus over her Wrecking Ball music video, in which featured her swining naked on a wrecking ball. Advertisement In an open letter, O'Connor told Cyrus the music industry "doesn't give a s**t about you, or any of us". "I am extremely concerned for you that those around you have led you to believe, or encouraged you in your own belief, that it is in any way 'cool' to be naked and licking sledgehammers in your videos. "They will prostitute you for all you are worth, and cleverly make you think it's what YOU wanted … and when you end up in rehab as a result of being prostituted, 'they' will be sunning themselves on their yachts in Antigua, which they bought by selling your body and you will find yourself very alone." In response, Cyrus took to Twitter sharing screenshots of posts from O'Connor appealing for a psychologist. She also compared her to Amanda Bynes, who was in rehab at the time. Advertisement In a recent interview with The New York Times , Cyrus said: "I responded in a way that I would never as an adult, but that was also an adult talking to a young person." She added: "That feels like her experience being reflected on to me, but that's not my experience. My experience was not that the music industry didn't care about me. She went on to refer to her father Billy Ray Cyrus and godmother Dolly Parton, saying that they had prepared her for the hardships in the music industry. "No, I still don't feel that way. But I also came from a very different upbringing, where I've known fame since the moment that I was born, so I was really well prepared. It's hard to train yourself to know what to expect, everything that fame can bring, but I already had the handbook, because they did the same thing to my dad, and to Dolly, to everyone around me. You know what I think it is? I understand the business I'm in. I'm in the record business. Advertisement "When I sign a contract, they're buying records that they wish to sell, so I understand that I am setting myself up to become merchandise. I've committed to them that I want to not only bring success for myself but also to them. So I understand the music industry. At one point in my life, I look forward to just being an artist, untied, untethered. At some point I'll get to do that."

Yet JoJo, who revealing she was no longer a lesbian in the CBB compound during the show's live stream, has now come under fire from the Wrecking Ball hitmaker. Boomerang songstress JoJo said she now wants to identify as queer, yet Hannah Montana star Miley, 33, appeared to throw shade on her at a recent World Pride event. She said, in a piece to camera from inside a closet: "'Oh, my God, I haven't been in here since sixth grade!' "Enjoy coming out of the closet if this Pride is the time for you. "It shouldn't be a month - it should be a year; it should be infinite." The Party In The USA songstress then dealt her jibe and added: "I'm going back inside to get more pretzels and find JoJo Siwa and bring her back out." Yet now she has called out the "bad joke" by her pop idol as she shared images of her Miley Cyrus-themed fifth birthday party to her Instagram page. In her caption, she wrote: "I was happy at my 5th birthday having a Miley themed party, and I'm still happy now at 22… If you know me, you know that Miley is my day 1, grew up beyond inspired by her from 2 years old on…" Chris Hughes breaks silence on JoJo Siwa relationship and he's quizzed by Ben Shepherd on This Morning "I wasn't sure how I felt about things for a couple of days… but I've started to come to some thoughts…. I don't believe what Miley said at world pride was ill intended, honestly I think it was meant to be a joke, but just not very good one haha. "Not what the world, or myself needs to hear anyday of the week." She then told how she had tackled the issue head-on and added: "I messaged Miley light heartedly about it and she replied and said 'All love. Always.' "Honestly the most beautiful thing I've learned in the last five years is that love is a gorgeous rainbow. Don't question yourself, don't second guess yourself, just love. Love love love love love. JoJo Siwa and Kath Ebbs' relationship We look back at JoJo Siwa's romance with Kath Ebbs: JoJo Siwa went public with hers and Kath Ebbs' relationship in January 2025. The Dance Moms star had been introduced to 27-year-old Australian content creator Kath by a mutual friend called G-Flip six months earlier. JoJo had split with her girlfriend Dakayla Wilson in November 2024 and it is believed she hooked up romantically with Kath soon after. Speaking in March at the 36th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, JoJo said of her relationship: 'I am so happy. I am in a very mature relationship, and it's beautiful. It's taught me so much about life. 'It's taught me so much about love and respect, and it's a beautiful thing. 'It's different in more ways than I can count. I wouldn't even know what to say the biggest is 'cause just everything is so different and special.' Kath even claimed they had talked about marriage together. However, JoJo's romance with Kath abruptly hit the skids on April 25, 2025, at the Celebrity Big Brother wrap party. JoJo dumped Kath at the bash after spending 19 days in the CBB house - where she had grown close to Love Island star Chris Hughes. "People judge no matter what, and it can be very hard, especially when it comes from someone you love, and look up to… but if you feel happy and content with yourself, that's most important. "You get one life… hold onto it, make it yours, find your happy, and love." OPENING UP JoJo's sexuality confession came to light in the CBB house earlier this year, where she said she realised she was no longer a lesbian. During a private chat in the bedroom, she confessed: "I feel so queer," as co-star Danny Beard then responded: "I'm queer!" In a new interview following her reality TV stint, she told how the phrase queer "encompasses how I am, and who I am". She added: "I do live this very, very big public life that has so many eyeballs on it, and it can get really hard to navigate. "But I'm also living a human life. You can't help who you love." The term queer is defined by LGBTQ charity Stonewall as "a term used by those wanting to reject specific labels of sexual orientation and/or gender identity". JoJo's sexuality was already a subject of conversation on CBB when American actor Mickey Rourke made a homophobic slur when talking to her earlier on in the series. REAL DEAL Meanwhile, amid the background noise, JoJo and Chris' partnership is going from strength to strength. The Bulletproof singer recently opened up on the "genuine" nature of their bond. She said: "People can see our chemistry, and they got to see it develop. "I think everyone's just curious, and I can't blame them." Clarifying the pair's exact relationship status she told The Guardian: "It's not platonic any more, and it's been a beautiful development, a beautiful connection, and I'm absolutely head over heels for him and he's the same way." She added: "I won't ever speak for him, but for me personally, the happiness in my life just radiates off of me right now. "Literally yesterday, I was massaging my cheeks; I've never been in pain from smiling so much." 5 JoJo said she tackled the issue head on and messaged Miley direct Credit: Getty
