‘9-1-1' Star Peter Krause Speaks Out After Devastating Season 8 Twist, Says It's a ‘Bold Creative Choice'
Note: This story contains spoilers from '9-1-1' Season 8, Episode 15.
Peter Krause's fire Captain Bobby Nash has been through a lot in eight seasons on '9-1-1,' including a near-fatal heart attack, being shot and almost drowning on a capsized cruise ship and somehow survived. Until this week, when he sacrificed himself to save a member of his team and died by the end of Episode 15.
The actor's exit had not been announced ahead of time, making his character's death that much harder on fans. Although a trailer scene in which Buck (Oliver Stark) lets out an anguished scream sparked speculation that only losing his father figure Bobby would affect him that deeply. (Buck's BFF Eddie and his son Christopher were, of course, safely out out of harm's way in Texas.)
This also marks the first major death on '9-1-1' in eight seasons, changing the stakes for the hit TV franchise moving forward.
In a statement to press, Krause said, 'I've heard that many fans are upset by this loss and they have a right to be. It is a loss.'
He went on to say, 'That said, it was more than a bold creative choice on a bold show. Bobby Nash was written in sacrifice and he was built for this. First responders risk their lives on the job so that others can see another day. His story arc honors them. We at '9-1-1' salute all the incredible men and women who do these dangerous jobs and strive to keep us safe. Our show is incredibly difficult to make at times with long hours, challenging stunts and elaborate disasters. We couldn't do it without each other.'
'Lab Rats' saw the team fight to save Chimney (Kenneth Choi) from a deadly supervirus after his helmet cracked while responding to a lab fire. The second half of a two-part storyline seemed to be headed for a happy ending once Chimney received the antidote in the nick of time.
And then Bobby refused to leave the lab with the rest of the crew, telling Buck and then his wife Athena (Angela Bassett) that there was a leak in in the air hose to his Hazmat suit and that he knowingly gave the only existing dose of the antidote to Chimney.
He said a heartbreaking goodbye to Athena from the other side of a contamination zone in a clear homage to Spock (Leonard Nimoy's) death in 'Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan' before kneeling to pray one last time.
Showrunner Tim Minear told TheWrap that it was his decision, not Krause's to kill off the beloved character. With three episodes left this season, Minear said the show will follow the immediate aftermath of this massive loss and catapult into one last major emergency in the Season 8 finale.
In March, footage of a funeral procession, with Bobby's wife Athena (Angela Bassett) and her children walking behind a fire engine leaked, with fans assuming it might be a dream sequence.
Add in an image of a script — taken from a video posted by Aisha Hinds — that has Bobby calling 9-1-1 from his coffin that he'd been buried alive and it's all fueled the fan theory that Bobby's tragic death is going to be one big fakeout.
This week, Minear told TheWrap that the fire captain is absolutely, 100% dead, but then again, this is the franchise that featured a bee-nado in LA, a tsunami in Santa Monica and a volcano and an asteroid hitting Austin, Texas. Not to mention characters surviving despite being hit by lightning, having their throat cut by a serial killer and, perhaps most memorably, having a length of rebar rammed through their skull.
Minear did tell TheWrap, 'Episode 15 is not Peter's last appearance this season,' but he also insisted, '[The show] needed a major character death for the audience to feel that there were real stakes in any of these cases … Next season, when our characters are in a precarious situation, you might be gripping the arms of your chair a little bit tighter.'
'9-1-1' airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. PT on ABC and streams the next day on Hulu.

Doctor Odyssey: 5 Ways to Save This Sinking Ship in a Potential Season 2
The odds aren't looking good for a Doctor Odyssey renewal, but we're here to throw Ryan Murphy's seafaring soap a life preserver. The ABC sudser wrapped its freshman run back in May, and has yet to be renewed by the network for a Season 2 — and we worry it won't be given the luxury of a second chance. To start, Season 1 averaged only 4.8 million weekly viewers (with delayed playback). And, out of the six dramas that ABC aired this TV season, Doctor Odyssey outdrew only Grey's Anatomy in total viewers. Secondly, Season 1 ended with an episode that felt a whole lot like a series finale. (Read our recap.) It would make perfect sense for the series to be cancelled, or simply be lost at sea forever without any official word on its status. More from TVLine Rob Lowe Wants to Bring Lone Star's Owen Strand to 9-1-1: Nashville: 'I'm Just Waiting for My Phone to Ring' Soaps Shocker: Erika Slezak Joins General Hospital! Here's What We Know So Far Roseanne Barr Claims The Conners Wanted Her Back - Here's What the EPs Told Us About a Possible Cameo Despite all signs indicating that this ship is sinking, I'm not giving up hope on this glitzy guilty pleasure. That being said, I do have some constructive feedback. Below, I'm breaking down five ways to steer the Odyssey in the right direction so that the series can cruise through a successful sophomore run. I simply will not — no, cannot — let the Fever Dream Theory die. And it's not only because I strive to be 100% correct on all things at all times. I truly do believe that the series needs some depth, and the Fever Dream Theory would be the perfect antidote. Yes, it's fun to watch a frothy little show about hot doctors rescuing people at sea, but, surprisingly enough, even hot people can get stale. What's keeping us invested in our crew? In our passengers? In the ship herself? We need a stronger foundation — something bigger than Avery's non-pregnancy pregnancy — to keep us watching and keep us wondering what might happen next. The show needs to confirm our theory, so we can continue to debate the intricacies and easter eggs that arise in life-and-death limbo. By confirming at least some aspect of our theory is real, the show has plenty of opportunity to play with the specifics: Is this ship purgatory proper? Or is it heaven? Is it hell? Are we dead, alive or barely breathing?! The possibilities are as vast as the ocean on which the Odyssey cruises. The demise of 9-1-1′s Bobby Nash (played by Peter Krause) was one of the most shocking TV deaths of the year! But if Doctor Odyssey would just commit to the Fever Dream Theory, the character doesn't have to be gone forever. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Bring Bobby on board! The man may have exited the Earthly realm, but his soul might still be searching for his final resting place. With Bobby on board, the ship can welcome him into their crew, creating more opportunities for dynamic conflict, romance and friendship! Plus, Krause's star power and top-notch acting could do wonders in keeping this thing afloat. And I wouldn't stop there. The group dynamic needs to be more complex; we can't keep beating the throuple horse. Why not bring on Adrianne Palicki as a series regular? (She was, after all, one of the best Season 1 guest stars!) During her short time on board, Palicki's Brooke forged independent relationships with both Avery and Max. Should she come on full-time, her friendship with Avery could offer some much-needed emotional high points, while her flirtatious dynamic with Max could raise the stakes among this romantically woeful group. The series could even bring on some of the other supporting characters as series regulars: Heather (Shania Twain) and Lenore (Gina Gershon) are just a couple of possibilities. If I have to hear Miss Avery (Phillipa Soo) announce she wants to go to med school one more time, I'll throw myself overboard. Beyond her desire to become a doctor, what do we know about this woman? What are her imperfections? Her unique neuroses? What does she like about Tristan and Max? What is she looking for in a romantic partner? Avery's entire Season 1 personality revolved around her male counterparts' perception of her, and her pregnancy. (A pregnancy that, by the way, ended up being a false alarm.) Avery repeatedly demanded time and space to think over her future, but her actual feelings or opinions about a possible pregnancy, a possible relationship and or her possible career remained a mystery. Let's give this girl the opportunity to go a little deeper so that we can identify with her a little more. The series started on such a strong note: Iodine poisoning from shrimp? Silly! A fractured penis? Outrageous! Give us more of that! The sea-mergencies lost their luster the longer Season 1 went on. Incorporating more chaos on board could go one of two ways: The Doctor Odyssey creative team could set out to tell the absolute strangest medical mysteries that have ever actually existed, or they could completely make up emergencies that probably would never actually happen but would make for thrilling TV. I'm talking innie belly buttons so deep that they leak all over the pool deck, or passengers getting dragged behind the ship after tripping over a rope. (And they survive!) Let's consult Saturday Night Live's Sarah Sherman to up the ick factor so we can get this ship rockin' and rollin' a la the Triangle of Sadness vomit scene. How Doctor Odyssey could air an entire season without tapping into the vocal talents of Broadway star Phillipa Soo is nothing short of criminal. Did you see her at the Tonys during Hamilton's 10th anniversary performance? The woman is an acclaimed vocalist! A star! How could that be ignored? For Doctor Odyssey — a show that strives to deliver a high-octane, campy, glitzy hour of television each week — a musical episode just makes sense. Even if Soo wasn't a part of the equation, I'd demand it. The fact that it might actually be good is just an added bonus. Iconic '90s Sitcom Star, 60, Celebrates Major Milestone With Rare Appearance
Iconic '90s Sitcom Star, 60, Celebrates Major Milestone With Rare Appearance originally appeared on Parade. As David Puddy — better known as simply "Puddy" — on Seinfeld, Patrick Warburton uttered some of the iconic sitcom's most unforgettable lines, from "You stole my Jesus fish" to "Gotta support the team," to "Ask the 8-Ball!" Over 30 years later, the beloved actor is still making fans laugh — but now he's cracking jokes live onstage. Warburton, 60, took to TikTok this week to celebrate the one-year anniversary of his first stand-up performance with a clip from the taping of his debut stand-up special, "Still Catholic," on June 7 at the El Portal Theater in Los Angeles. "Thanks to everyone who came out last weekend to help celebrate my one-year anniversary," he wrote in his caption of the video montage, which showed the actor performing in a backwards baseball cap for an enthusiastic crowd (but didn't reveal any of his material just yet). In an interview with The Wrap last month, Warburton opened up about his recent foray into stand-up comedy, calling the last year "one of the most amazing years" of his life. 'It's just been a wild ride this year," he said, adding, "I have been touring non-stop and I had never done this before. I wrote and I performed and it's been an incredible year. I've never known this kind of autonomy. I've always been told what to do and what to say, how to say a word, and that all changed.' 'There's a part of me that's like why did you wait 'til now?" Warburton continued. "But there's another part that's like where are you going with this at the age of 60? But then there's another side of me that's just like, at this point, it doesn't matter because it's been one of the most amazing years. So much fun,' the comedian went on to say, joking that he's "really enjoyed throwing everybody under the bus" as part of his act. "You know, my family, they're all up for it. They love it," he said, explaining that his routine revolves around "fun dumb things. There's great perspective stuff on societal things, there's a lot of family stuff. I feel like, to a degree, I'm relatable. I'm on stage for 70 minutes, I don't really talk about Seinfeld apart from references in regards to my family that might have something to do with that. But at the end of the day, it's standup.'Iconic '90s Sitcom Star, 60, Celebrates Major Milestone With Rare Appearance first appeared on Parade on Jun 13, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade on Jun 13, 2025, where it first appeared.
