Cops hand over probe into actor's alleged assault of teen fan to prosecutors
SHAH ALAM, June 13 — The investigation paper (IP) involving a popular male actor and singer, accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl, has been submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor's (DPP) Office for further action.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said that the police are now awaiting a response from the DPP, before proceeding with further legal action.
'The investigation paper has been completed and submitted. We are now awaiting further instructions for the case, which is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 (Act 792),' he said, at a press conference, here, today.
Commenting further, Hussein said that investigations found that the victim and the suspect had met on two occasions prior to the incident, during celebrity events or concerts.
'We believe that the victim is indeed a fan of the actor. Their acquaintance began through encounters at event venues.'
Hussein added that the incident came to light after the victim's mother lodged a police report.
On June 4, the media reported that a popular actor and singer was arrested by police for allegedly sexually assaulting a teenage girl, at a hotel in Selangor. — Bernama

Muhammed Hasbullah said the police will also work with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC) to blacklist companies offering Haj packages without approval, stressing that they are committed to taking firm action against those involved in such scams to protect the people from becoming victims. At the same time, Muhammed Hasbullah expressed his appreciation for the media's cooperation in helping to disseminate information and raise public awareness that only individuals with an official Haj visa are to perform the pilgrimage. Yesterday, a media report cited that 47 Malaysian pilgrims had allegedly fallen victim to a Haj scam by a local agent involving a well-known religious figure. The daughter of one of the victims, who claimed that her parents and aunt, who left for Saudi Arabia with the agent on May 9, were forced to trek through dangerous routes from Jeddah to Mecca without proper documents, food, or water, allegedly to avoid detection by Saudi authorities. The group of pilgrims also claimed that they were locked in a dark, cramped room and were told to pay an additional RM9,000 to retrieve belongings they had left behind, despite already having paid RM30,000 for the Haj package. — Bernama

Driver suffers suspected seizure, Myvi hits four pedestrians in Cameron Highlands (VIDEO)
KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 — A man is believed to have suffered a seizure before losing control of his Perodua Myvi, which veered off the road and hit four pedestrians at Kilometre 68 of Jalan Kea Farm near Brinchang in Cameron Highlands today. Cameron Highlands district police chief Superintendent Azri Ramli said the incident occurred around noon and involved a 24-year-old man and three girls aged two, eight and 10. All four sustained injuries and were discharged after receiving treatment at Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom Hospital. 'Preliminary investigations found the 22-year-old driver was heading from Brinchang to Kea Farm when he is believed to have suffered a seizure. The car lost control, veered onto the left shoulder and struck several pedestrians,' he said in a statement today. Azri said checks showed the driver had no previous traffic summonses, tested negative for drugs, and had a medical history of seizures. 'A summons has been issued, and we advise the public not to circulate unverified information,' he added.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 — Police are investigating an alleged act of insulting a woman's modesty involving a police officer, following a video purportedly showing a conversation between the two individuals that went viral on social media yesterday. Ampang Jaya District Police chief ACP Mohd Azam Ismail urged the woman in the video to come forward and assist with the investigation. 'The police officer involved has been identified and removed from current duties; a disciplinary investigation is also underway against the officer,' he said in a statement today. He said the 1-minute 30-second video was detected at about 5 pm yesterday, after a TikTok user uploaded it on a personal account, and it went viral on Instagram. Mohd Azam said the investigation is being conducted under Section 509 of the Penal Code (for insulting modesty) and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (for improper use of network facilities). Members of the public with information related to the incident are urged to contact investigating officer ASP Hida Hayati via the Ampang Jaya District Police Headquarters (IPD) hotline at 03-42897222 to assist in the investigation. — Bernama
