M&S releases men's range of trendy new summer shirts inspired by A-listers Paul Mescal, Callum Turner and the cast of Love Island
The British supermarket giant has declared it the season to bare all with a brand new range of men's summer shirts, including loose-fitting linen looks, cooling cotton jerseys and even knitted numbers, all of which can be worn buttoned up or down.
Inspired by A-listers like Paul Mescal, Callum Turner, and Miles Teller, the new line offers a wide range of relaxed-fitting summer looks that shoppers can dress up or down, with both long and short sleeved options.
This summer also saw the cast of Love Island embracing the trend, with nearly all of the male islanders turning heads in relaxed jerseys in a plethora of patterns and styles.
Prices range from £35-£45 and feature a range of colours from cream and mint to khaki, with a striped option available for pattern-loving patrons.
So inspired by the trendy loose-fitted looks of the season, searches for 'men's open shirt style' have surged 600 per cent on on Pinterest.
And the high-street has seen the effect, with searches for 'M&S Men's Shirts' up 100 per cent this month.
Mescal, 29, who shot to fame in 2020 after taking up the role of Connell in the BBC adaptation of Sally Rooney's Normal People, is also a well known trend-setter on the fashion scene, and has inspired the loose-looking linen styles.

Actor Miles Teller, 38, put loose-fitting shirts on the map in 2019 when he rolled up to the Cannes Film Festival wearing a relaxed fitting summer shirt in a stylish yellow and cream floral pattern
Last year, the Irish heart-throb was spotted sneaking out of Chiltern Firehouse in a pale blue button-down shirt.
More recently, the enviable beau to Dua Lipa, Callum Turner, 35, appeared on his glamorous fiancée's Instagram sporting a pale blue striped shirt.
Pictured glowing in the European sunshine, the actor cooled down by leaving a generous portion of his top buttons.
Offering a close replica, M&S's new line includes a Regular Fit Pure Linen Striped Shirt, priced at £45, that offers a comfortable fit, button-through fastening and cuffs for a look that can be dressed up or down.

Offering a similarly stylish summer look, M&S has designed an equally chic blue shirt with tonal textured panels running across the chest.
Combined with the breathable linen material, the shirt - costing £38 - offers shoppers a stylish but comfortable wardrobe staple.
The new line comes at the perfect time as the chain recently announced the full return of their online delivery – including Click & Collect – across Fashion, Home & Beauty on M&S.com.
It comes as the brand continues to roll out trend-setting lines, with July having welcomed a scintillating set of short shorts, similarly inspired by A-lister style.
The line rolled tiny shorts, with inner seams of just three inches in some cases, at prices ranging from £15 to £30, and in a variety of styles, from pairs suitable for holiday lounging to chino-style cut-offs that don't compromise formality.
According to data from Bounce Insights, via Drapers, 66 per cent of men reported liking the 'short shorts trend', with 46 per cent agreeing that they plan on purchasing a pair this summer.
Mescal was also the influence behind
Speaking to GQ, Paul said he is a 'big advocate for men wearing shorter shorts'. Explaining how he put the outfit together, he said: 'From my eye, it's to do with proportion. Like shorter shorts with maybe a longer top.'
What's more, the theme of short shorts materialised on the Gucci catwalk. One model was pictured wearing a red oversized short-sleeved shirt and fluorescent pink shorts.
Meanwhile, another model was styled very similarly to Mescal in a purple button-down shirt, flashing their washboard abs.
It's not just Mescal who's behind the latest trend, but also former One Direction singer Harry Styles. Papparazzi have spotted the singer countless times around London donning a pair of tiny shorts.
The trend also appears to be sticking over in the States, with actor Chris Pine, 44, cutting the seams so significantly that an interviewer at E! asked him to defend his choice.
'I don't think there is anything to defend,' Chris quipped about his October 27, 2023, outfit consisting of a tiny pair of shorts paired with a mustard yellow hoodie and brown loafers. 'It's called short shorts, isn't it? It's supposed to be short.'
Indeed, Marks and Spencer's appears to have got Pine's memo with its new thigh-high collection.
Mitch Hughes, director of menswear at M&S, told Drapers: 'From the catwalk to A-list celebs, the ''short short'' trend has well and truly arrived – with this season set to be all about the thigh-high style.
'To celebrate its rise in popularity, we're introducing our shortest ever shorts offering, just in time for summer. With inner seams starting at around three inches, our new shorter lengths are officially the shortest M&S men's shorts ever!

I've already tried the Harrods beauty advent calendar 2025 – here's my review
Harrods is renowned for many things, from its Grade II listed building to its green-robed doormen and its over-the-top Christmas decorations. But another thing stands out at Christmas: the brand's beauty advent calendar. It sounds ludicrously early, but every August, the big luxury department stores drop the first glimpses of their beauty advent calendars for the festive season ahead. This year, Liberty was the first to debut its Christmas countdown (in July, no less), with Harvey Nichols, Selfridges (explore my full list of 2025's best beauty advent calendars) and Harrods following shortly after. Last year, the retailer's 25-day beauty haul came wrapped up in its signature green hue, but one year on, the brand has taken things down a notch with minimalist taupe packaging, complete with subtle gold accents. However, there are some similarities to 2024's advent calendar, with return appearances from fan-favourite brands including Augustinus Bader, 111 Skin, La Mer and more. Plus, if you like a bit of a shake-up, you'll be pleased to discover an extra seven products in 2025's line-up – all for the same £250 price point ( Scroll on for all the juicy details, including my honest review of everything inside. Spoilers ahead. How we tested Receiving the Harrods calendar on 29 July (22 days before its market-wide dispatch on 20 August), I've had three weeks to explore the 32 products within, testing them as part of my day-to-day skincare, make-up, fragrance, haircare and body care routines. While unboxing and reviewing them, I noted the following factors: Packaging – Some of the appeal of a luxury advent calendar is often the possibility that you could repurpose the packaging the following year, so I wanted it to look good and feel robust. I also weighed up the pros and cons of the brand's neutral colour choices versus a traditional Christmas theme. Sizing – I considered whether or not the number of full-size and mini formulas was impressive for the retail price, and judged the sizing of each item relative to its use. For instance, is an 8ml SPF cream an asset or just clutter? Brands – I considered the worth of the brands included and their quality. Ideally, I want a healthy mix of buzzy beauty and timeless brands. I wanted both practical, effective beauty as well as some extravagant, luxury products. Performance – After using the products included, I recorded any that wowed me, and any that felt like fillers. Distinctive qualities – Compared to other beauty advent calendars on the market, I took time to assess whether or not Harrods' offering stands out from the crowd or is much the same as competitors. Lucy Smith has been writing about the best beauty advent calendars for several years, covering 2024's Sephora advent calendar and 2025's Charlotte Tilbury, Boots and Space NK calendars. Having worked in the industry for more than five years, she's seen many Christmas countdowns and knows the brands – like Mac and Rodial – that are frequently featured, plus the ones making a splash in new offerings for 2025. Given that she is constantly testing the latest and greatest brands (such as her tests of the new K18 heat protectors and Clinique nude honey lipsticks), Lucy is across all the trending products to expect in advent calendars this Christmas. Here's what she thought of Harrods' latest iteration.
