The new Amarok will not be the only topic at VW's stand, though. With the launch of the new Tayron SUV imminent, the replacement of the seven-seat Tiguan Allspace will be available for viewing, including the new Crafter commercial range to be launched in September.
VWSA says visitors to its stand will also be treated to the reveal of another exciting new model, the facelifted Mk8 Golf GTI, colloquially known as the 8.5.
The updated 195kW GTI we drove in Wolfsburg, Germany, a few months ago was not part of the market introduction of the new enhancements earlier in the year, with only the 1.4 TSI models going on sale.

VW to reveal updated Grand California camper at Caravan Salon

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will unveil the updated Grand California camper van at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, running from August 29 to September 7. The latest version of the Grand California introduces several visual and functional upgrades aimed at improving on-board comfort. Available in two wheelbase options, the revised camper will enter series production in the second half of 2025. Refreshed interior with yacht-inspired finishes Inside, the Grand California gains a new 'Atami Bamboo' décor for the tabletop and kitchenette surfaces, complemented by updated PVC flooring that carries through the kitchen, dinette and load areas. A redesigned black kitchen tap contrasts with the lighter tones, lending a calm, lounge-like feel with hints of Mediterranean yacht design. A new exterior table-mounting option allows the dining table to be quickly attached to the outside of the kitchen unit — ideal for meals or drinks outdoors. Storage has also been improved, with added luggage nets in the upper cabinets of the 600 (6m, transverse bed) and 680 (6.8m, longitudinal bed) variants.

Porsche trims outlook as tariffs add to ‘storm' of challenges

Volkswagen's embattled luxury brand Porsche cut its full-year profitability target on Wednesday after the EU's trade deal with US President Donald Trump and reported a €400m (R8.23bn) hit from tariffs in the first half. The burden of tariffs on car imports to the US added to Porsche's woes as it undergoes a costly restructuring while facing weakness in its key market China and a sluggish transition to electric cars. "We continue to face significant challenges around the world. This is not a storm that will pass," Porsche CEO Oliver Blume said. Taking into account the newly agreed tariff of 15% from August 1, the German carmaker expects group sales this year in the range of €37bn (R764.30bn) to €38bbn (R784.95bn), in line with its previous forecast, and a return on sales of between 5% and 7%, down from a previously expected 6.5% to 8.5% range. Countermeasures such as price adjustments are included in the outlook as Porsche seeks to mitigate the damage, the company said. Group figures released last week showed Porsche's operating profit collapsing by 91% year on year in the second quarter to €154m (R3.18bn).

Lamborghini's half-year operating profit dips amid currency headwinds

Italian luxury sports car maker Lamborghini said on Wednesday its operating income fell slightly in the first half even as it delivered record numbers of cars to customers as currency effects weighed on its bottom line. Operating income stood at €431m (R8,904,511,720) from January to June versus €458m (R9,462,934,940) a year before, primarily due to unfavourable exchange rate trends in the second quarter, the company said. "The results are solid despite global economic and political instability," CEO Stephan Winkelmann said. Net revenues amounted to €1.62bn (R33,471,516,600) in the time as the carmaker, part of Germany's Volkswagen, delivered 5,681 cars, its highest amount ever for a first half. Its operating profit margin fell to 26.6% from 28.3% a year before. Winkelmann said the results confirmed a decision to make all Lamborghini's range hybrid was right, as shown by the success of the Revuelto sportscar, its first plug-in hybrid, launched in 2023, and of the Urus SE SUV. "Our vision is shared by our customers," he said. "We look forward to the market launch of the Temerario, which will complete the first fully hybrid range in the segment". Lamborghini, based near Bologna in northern Italy, did not make any reference to Sunday's EU-US framework trade deal, which imposed a 15% US import tariff on most EU goods, despite the Americas region accounting for around 30% of its deliveries in the first half, or 1,732 cars. The Europe, Middle East and Africa region led deliveries in that time with 2,708 units, while Asia Pacific accounted for 1,241 units. Earlier this year Winkelmann said US tariffs would have an impact on Lamborghini's revenue even though luxury product makers can pass on potential tariffs to customers as there was a "sweet point" beyond which "you lose volumes".
