Sean McVay: Surgery for Matthew Stafford has not been discussed
But reporters on the scene noted Stafford was in street clothes to start the session.
Head coach Sean McVay told reporters after practice that Stafford's back wasn't feeling good enough for him to practice on Monday. The team will continue to take things with Stafford and his disc issue one day at a time.
"We're going to be flexible and fluid," McVay said, via Stu Jackson of the team's website.
McVay was asked if surgery is a possibility for Stafford and noted the club has not had that conversation yet.
'There's been a lot of conversations about what's the best method of how we want to approach it," McVay said, via Sarah Barshop of ESPN. "That hasn't been something that comes up.'
Stafford has not practiced throughout training camp due to the disc issue. He was able to throw around 60 passes during his workout on Saturday, with McVay noting that Stafford did not have any restrictions on the types of throws.
But Stafford's back did not recover well enough for him to practice on Monday.
Jimmy Garoppolo has been taking the first-team snaps at quarterback for L.A. with Stafford sidelined.

The 25-year-old Calderón used an expression with derogatory words against Catalans. He apologized at the time, and again late Tuesday after his deal with Nastic fell through. 'I'm a little upset, in shock, but I accept the consequences," he told local sports show El Chiringuito. 'First of all, I want to apologize to all the people who were offended. I have Catalan family, Catalan friends, and they didn't take it the same way. Here in Andalusia, for me, it's a normal expression, one we don't take with such repercussions, but it struck a chord with people, and I wanted to apologize publicly.' Quarterback Joe Burrow isn't the only member of the Bengals who thinks running back Chase Brown has big things ahead of him this season. After a quiet rookie season, the 2023 fifth-round pick broke out with 1,350 yards from scrimmage and 13 touchdowns for the Bengals in 2024. That left offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher to call him "a top-10 back in the league" and he said the team wants Brown "ready to touch the ball as many times as possible.' That goal led the team's offensive coaches to rethink their run scheme for the 2025 season and running backs coach Justin Hill said the conversations were focused on Brown above all else. 'At the end of the conversation, it wasn't about what we think looks good on the board,' Hill said, via Charlie Goldsmith of the Associated Press. "[It was] what is Chase good at? How can we showcase his tools in the run game and in the pass game? Where we have in the run game right now is pretty true to who we think Chase is and what he can be.' The Bengals showed that they can feed plenty of mouths on offense in 2024. They'd like to do that again this season while also winning enough games to see if their revised approach can lead to a long postseason run.
