Land pooling promises false: Warring
Aam Aadmi Party
govt of trying to cheat the farmers by promising compensation "which it is not in a position to pay".
"It is like a post-dated cheque on a crashing bank," he remarked.
Responding to the govt decision offering acre-based compensation to farmers until the area is developed, Warring observed that this is a diversionary tactic to befool farmers by the AAP govt. "Farmers will not bite the bait," he asserted, while pointing out, "when the govt doesn't have enough money to run its own day-to-day affairs, pay the salaries, or pay the promised Rs 1,000 to every woman, where will it get the money from to pay the farmers?" "This is a ploy to defraud the farmers and make them walk into the trap," he warned.
Reiterating his appeal to the govt to withdraw the policy, Warring said: "What is the point when there is no need for land pooling." tnn

Election Commission begins BLO training in West Bengal amid speculation on SIR
The Election Commission of India (ECI) started training Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in West Bengal on Saturday, amid concerns that a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, currently being held in neighbouring poll-bound Bihar, will be held in the state too. During the training session, West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Agarwal did not deny that SIR could be held in the state too. 'It may be held in the future. SIR is a sub judice matter. Let the judgment come,' Agarwal said. 'We are also giving SIR training because we cannot call BLOs every time. They are not our permanent staff. We are ready for any type of exercise, even SIR,' he added. Agarwal said that there were 81,000 booths in West Bengal, which would be increased by 14,000. 'We will give training to every worker in each booth,' he added. On Saturday, the training of BLOs, assistant electoral registration officers and supervisors of Murshidabad, Nadia, South and North 24 Parganas districts began at Najrul Mancha stadium in Kolkata. 'This is a training for Special Summary Revision, which is held in West Bengal every year in September. This year, it will happen a month early,' Dibyendu Das, Additional CEO, West Bengal, said. Meanwhile, the ECI has revised the remuneration of BLOs and BLO supervisors in West Bengal, where Assembly elections are due early next year. The poll panel also declared that BLOs will get additional incentives for taking part in special drives. According to sources, the ECI has sent a letter to all CEOs stating, '…the Commission has directed that following minimum annual remuneration should be granted to BLOs and BLO supervisors: Booth Level Officer (BLO)-Rs 12,000, BLO Supervisor-Rs 18000, Special Incentive to BLO (for SSR/SR and any other special drive) Rs 2000.' ECI sources said that BLOs used to get Rs 6,000 earlier. The ruling Trinamool Congress, meanwhile, said that the party will not allow an SIR in Bengal. 'The Election Commission is working to help the BJP in all voting states. They will try that, but the work in Bengal will not be easy, because in every booth of the state, the TMC has an organisation. Every valid voter has contact with the TMC. This conspiracy will not work in West Bengal, because the TMC activists will stand at all booths across the state,' TMC spokesperson Jayprakash Majumder said. Kaveri Engine Gets New Lease Of Life As Government Approves Rs 723 Crore For Derivative Engine
New Delhi: The Central government has approved Rs 723.59 crore for two projects under the Kaveri Derivative Engine (KDE) programme, which aims to power India's future unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV), informed Parliament on Friday (25 July). In a written response to BJP MP Tejasvi Surya in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth announced the sanction of two key KDE projects. These include the 'Flightworthy Kaveri Dry Engine Development' with a budget of 472.42 crore, and 'Technology Demonstration of Kaveri Derivative 'Dry' Engine' costing ₹251.17 crore. The Kaveri Derivative Engine is a non-afterburning version of the original Kaveri engine initially developed for the Tejas fighter but repurposed for unmanned aircraft after the original engine did not meet thrust requirements. The dry variant is expected to produce thrust in the range of 49 to 51 kiloNewtons. Minister Seth also highlighted that the Defence Ministry has been allocating significant funds for indigenous defence technology research and development. Over the past three years, projects worth more than Rs 29,550 crore have been sanctioned to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). To foster innovation, DRDO has set up 15 DRDO Industry Academia Centres of Excellence (DIA-CoE) across the country at institutions such as IISc Bangalore, various IITs, and Central and State Universities. These centres support focused research for developing new defence and security technologies. Additionally, DRDO labs have opened several high-quality test facilities for industry use, along with established standard operating procedures (SOPs) to facilitate this collaboration. DRDO has also launched the Technology Development Fund (TDF) to financially support Indian industries in designing and developing innovative defence products.

Why trouble is brewing for Bhupesh Baghel's son
(NOTE: This article was originally published in the India Today issue dated August 4, 2025)It's the giant-slaying phase, it seems, for the Enforcement Directorate (ED), after a long hunt for peripheral players. The latest arrest in what they're calling Chhattisgarh's own 'liquor scam': Chaitanya Baghel. The charges: acts linked to the sale of non-excise-paid liquor in 2019-22, when his father Bhupesh Baghel was CM. Besides causing a loss of Rs 2,200-odd crore to the exchequer, the ED alleges, Chaitanya's construction business netted in bribe money from liquor barons. In January, the ED had crested its previous peak in the case by arresting then excise minister Kawasi Lakhma, a Congress tribal High drama erupted after the ED arrived for the arrest at Baghel's Raipur residence on July 18: the last day of the assembly's monsoon session and also Chaitanya's birthday. An angry Baghel tweeted how, on his own birthday in August 2023, the ED had raided his OSDs. 'The kind of birthday gifts Modi-Shah give cannot be given by anyone in any democracy. Thank you... I will remember them for life,' he wrote. A non-birthday present too had come in March, when the CBI raided his premises in the Mahadev app was also heard lamenting how Pappu Bansal, an accused said to be close to him, could be seen breezing in and out of the ED office. That's not a bad reading of the ED's self-revealed strategy: to get those close to the 'big fish' to sing. Sources claim it was Bansal who explained the 'financial trail' leading to Chaitanya. Pappu Dhillon, a Chaitanya aide now in jail, may play a like role too. K.K. Shrivastava, a 'tantric/astrologer' close to Baghel, was arrested from Bhopal on unrelated complaints—also apparently meant to persuade him to read the future well and cooperate. BIG TREES DON'T FALLBaghel has been vocal about tree-felling in an Adani coal project in a Raigarh forest. Chaitanya's arrest, he claims, is meant to deflect focus from that. The BJP denies any link. Anyway, Baghel's standing in his party won't stay unaffected. A section still prefers him: Priyanka Gandhi, for one, tweeted in his support. But a dichotomy is visible too: Baghel-baiter Charandas Mahant has been made leader of former CM is a leader who even the BJP acknowledges as its most popular rival in the state. To retain that centrality, Baghel has a fight on his to India Today Magazine- EndsTune InMust Watch
