KPN Aims To Get 10,000 Students To Join IPIM Within A Year

KUALA TERENGGANU, June 25 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of National Unity (KPN) is targeting 10,000 school students to join the 'Inspirasi Pelajar Inovasi Muzium' (IPIM) or Museum Innovation Student Inspiration programme within one year. Its Deputy Minister, K. Saraswathy said the IPIM programme, which is being implemented in collaboration with the Department of Museums Malaysia and the Ministry of Education (MOE), aims to produce a generation that is historically and culturally literate, towards building racial unity. She said that this year, a total of 41 museums in Malaysia are involved in the implementation of the IPIM programme, including federal, state and institutional museums. "There are five sessions in the IPIM programme, namely briefing sessions by museum officials, teaching and learning (PdP) sessions, visits to galleries, reinforcement activities and reflections to test the level of student understanding towards the sessions conducted. "The IPIM pilot project was implemented in 2015. In 2020, there were plans for the programme to be physically implemented, but it had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 epidemic, and it resumed in 2021,' she said at the launch of the 2025 national-level IPIM Programme at the Terengganu State Museum here today. Also present was state Tourism, Culture, Environment and Climate Change Committee chairman Datuk Razali Idris. Saraswathy said that 1,680 students joined the IPIM programme that was held simultaneously at 41 museums nationwide today. "KPN always supports efforts by any institution in Malaysia to create togetherness and unity in the country. "KPN hopes that the IPIM programme can foster a spirit of unity and harmony, as well as diversity of the community, thus fueling a sense of love for the country,' she said. -- BERNAMA

Raja Musa Forest Reserve Recognised As ASEAN Peatland Reference Site

KUALA SELANGOR, June 25 (Bernama) -- The Raja Musa Forest Reserve here has been selected by the ASEAN Task Force on Peatlands (ATFP) as a regional reference site for peatland conservation and restoration efforts. ATFP chairman S.R. Siva Kumar said the site was chosen in recognition of the success achieved by the Selangor government and relevant parties in transforming the area, which had been degraded by illegal logging and farming, into a model of integrated peatland conservation acknowledged at the international level. 'Today, delegates from seven countries participating in the 10th ATFP Meeting, including Indonesia, the Philippines, and Laos, were brought here to witness firsthand our efforts in rehabilitating peat forests. 'From the feedback received, many of the visitors, comprising policymakers and scientists, expressed admiration for what has been achieved here and are keen for us to share our approach to peatland conservation,' he said. Siva Kumar, who is also the Biodiversity and Forestry Management Division secretary at the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry, was speaking during the ATFP delegation's site visit to the forest reserve today. He stressed that peatland conservation should be a collective priority due to its vital environmental role, particularly as a significant carbon sink. Malaysia is hosting and chairing the 10th ATFP Meeting from June 24 to 26 at Novotel, Putrajaya, as part of its ASEAN chairmanship this year. Meanwhile, Selangor Forestry Department director Azhar Ahmad said the visit served not only to showcase the state's efforts but also to introduce the work and initiatives of various agencies involved in peatland conservation. 'This site was selected because Selangor is implementing an effective Integrated Management Plan (IMP) for its peat swamp forests, which has yielded positive impacts for the state.

Orang Asli student defies odds to score perfect CGPA

KUALA LUMPUR : Despite living without electricity or the internet, 20-year-old Roziana Tan Beng Hai of SMK Tanjung Gemok, Kuala Rompin in Pahang, defied the odds to score the perfect cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4 in the STPM examination. An Orang Asli student from Kampung Mentelong, Roziana faced immense challenges in her academic journey. 'My village is far from school – it takes about an hour, so I had to stay in the hostel. 'There's no internet at home, I have to walk some two to three kilometres to get a stable signal.' Her village also lacks electricity, and a generator is used just to charge phones. Hostel students were only allowed home once every two weeks. Her uncle, Lanco Lumuan, 59, said Roziana had always been committed to her studies, inspired by her older siblings, including a sister who graduated from a polytechnic. 'She's the second of three siblings and wants to study at UKM. As Orang Asli, we want our children to stand equal with others.' Form Six teacher Yus Amirul Afzan, 39, described Roziana as focused and determined. 'She aimed for a perfect score from the start. After the trial exams, we knew she had the potential. When the results came, we were all proud.' Roziana is one of two SMK Tanjung Gemok students to achieve a 4 this year, and the only Orang Asli student to do so. Asked about her success, Roziana said discipline, consistency and asking questions were key. 'STPM was tough, but I set clear goals and managed my time.' She plans to pursue economics at UKM. 'It's one of the top universities, and it is my first choice. 'I want to improve my social status and stand tall as a successful Orang Asli. I want to prove that we too, can achieve great things.'
