BCCI announces full schedule, venues for New Zealand's tour to India; check details
Notably, it will be the first clash between the two teams since India's Champions Trophy final win over New Zealand in March 2025. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) finalized the schedule during its Apex Council Meeting.
New Zealand's tour to India kicks off with a three-match ODI series, in Baroda (Vadodara) at the newly constructed Kotambi Stadium. Interestingly, this venue will host its first men's international match in over 15 years, having previously hosted three Women's ODIs in December 2024 and six Women's Premier League (WPL) matches in 2025.
The second ODI will take place on January 14 in Rajkot, followed by the series finale on January 18 in Indore.
1st ODI: January 11, 2026 – Baroda (Kotambi Stadium) – 1:30 PM IST
2nd ODI: January 14, 2026 – Rajkot – 1:30 PM IST
3rd ODI: January 18, 2026 – Indore – 1:30 PM IST
Following the ODIs, the teams will face each other to play the T20I format with five matches spread across central, eastern, and southern India.
The T20I series between India and New Zealand will start on January 21 in Nagpur, followed by Raipur on January 23. The third match will be played in Guwahati on January 25, before heading to Visakhapatnam (Vizag) on January 28 and concluding the tour in Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) on January 31.
1st T20I: January 21, 2026 – Nagpur – 7:00 PM IST
2nd T20I: January 23, 2026 – Raipur – 7:00 PM IST
3rd T20I: January 25, 2026 – Guwahati – 7:00 PM IST
4th T20I: January 28, 2026 – Visakhapatnam – 7:00 PM IST
5th T20I: January 31, 2026 – Thiruvananthapuram – 7:00 PM IST
The series between India and New Zealand holds special importance for both teams.
For India, the reigning T20 World Cup champions (2024), these five T20I matches could serve as their final preparation before co-hosting the 2026 T20 World Cup with Sri Lanka in February-March 2026.
New Zealand, on the other hand, can use this tour as a crucial build-up to their subsequent T20I series against Afghanistan.

Dilip Vengsarkar subtly calls out Ajit Agarkar's misstep for England tour: Virat Kohli should've been persuaded to...
Former India captain Dilip Vengasarkar on Monday subtly called out BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar's misstep for the recently-concluded Test series in England surrounding the Test retirement of Virat Kohli. Vengasarkar felt Kohli should have been persuaded to play in the Test series against England. Dilip Vengsarkar felt Virat Kohli should have played in England Speaking to the Times of India, Vengsarkar said that if he had been the national selector, he would have convinced Kohli to feature in one last Test series against England before retiring from the traditional format, as India needed his class and experience. 'If I were the Indian chief selector, I would have persuaded Virat to bid goodbye to Test cricket after playing the England series. We needed his class and experience in this series,' he said. Kohli shockingly retired in the month of May, just weeks before the announcement of the Test squad for the tour of England. The announcement came just a few days after Rohit Sharma called time on his career in Test cricket. Both had earlier retired from T20Is last year in June, right after India beat South Africa to win the T20 World Cup in Barbados. Despite the absence of the two batting stalwarts, the young Indian side, led by Shubman Gill, pulled off a fascinating 2-2 draw in the five-match contest. Gill was the Player of the Series for India with his record 754 runs in 10 innings - the most-ever by an Indian captain in a singe contest. Kohli breaks silence on Test retirement Almost a month after his shocking announcement, Virat Kohli finally spoke about his decision to retire from Test cricket. He was asked about it during a charity event for former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh's foundation, YouWeCan. "I just coloured my beard two days ago. You know it's time when you are colouring your beard every four days," Kohli quipped, as per Times of India. Kohli retired with 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85, placing him fourth on India's all-time list behind Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Sunil Gavaskar. As captain, he led in 68 Tests, winning 40 — the most by any Indian skipper and the fourth-best in history. He will next feature in a three-match ODI series against Australia in October, followed by a home series against South Africa.

BCCI wants Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to play for this team ahead of the ODI series against Australia, captain will be... New Delhi: Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have retired from Test and T20 International cricket, but they are still active in ODI cricket. Both players are likely to go to Australia in October this year and take part in the three-match ODI series, which will start on October 19 in Perth. On August 10 (Sunday), there was news that after the Australia series, both players may also retire from the ODI format. However, according to the latest report by PTI, the BCCI will not take any hasty decision on this, and it is possible that both of them will be asked to play some matches for India A against Australia A in September-October. At the moment, India A is captained by a star Delhi player Yash Dhull. India A vs Australia A preparation plan According to a BCCI idea, Kohli and Rohit may play some matches for India A during Australia A's tour of India to prepare for the Australia series. These three List A matches will be played in Kanpur on September 30, October 3, and October 5, while at the same time the senior team will play the first Test against the West Indies in Ahmedabad. Recent performances and records Kohli and Rohit, who have more than 10,000 runs in ODIs, last played in the Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand in Dubai on March 9, 2025. In that match, Rohit scored 76 runs off 83 balls and was the 'Player of the Match'. At the same time, Kohli scored 84 runs off 98 balls in the first semi-final against Australia and an unbeaten 100 off 111 balls in the Group A match against Pakistan. Future plans and prospects Some media reports said that the BCCI could give a farewell match to both players on October 25 in Sydney, but there has been no discussion on this at the moment. The Vijay Hazare Trophy will start on December 24, 2025, but before that, there will be a three-match ODI series against South Africa in India from November 30. In between this, three List A matches of India A vs South Africa A will be played in Rajkot on November 13, 16, and 19. There is also a question of whether Kohli and Rohit would want to play these matches and whether the selectors would want this or not. During the Vijay Hazare Trophy (December 24, 2025 – January 18, 2025), there will also be an India–New Zealand ODI series (January 11, 14, and 18), so in this too they will be able to play a maximum of 2–3 matches.

‘It's Close To All Guns Blazing': David On Australia's Plan Of Quick Scoring In T20Is
Last Updated: Tim David's blistering 83 helped Australia secure a 17-run win over South Africa in the T20I series opener. Australia leads the series 1-0 After striking a blistering 83 in Australia's 17-run win over South Africa in the T20I series opener, big-hitting batter Tim David said the side's rapid-fire starts in the shortest format are close to their new-found approach of going all guns blazing in the lead-up to next year's T20 World Cup. In the game at Marrara Stadium, Australia smacked 71 runs in the Powerplay, though they lost four wickets. 'It's obviously not the team plan to be four down within six overs, but that happens at times. We've got what we believe is a great calibre of batters in our batting order, and we back each guy to make the right decisions. 'We've been playing together as a group now for a while, so there's not a great deal of instruction from the coaches. They trust the players. We trust ourselves to go out there and we understand the game situation and we make decisions on the fly, because that's the nature of T20 cricket. 'I think if you'd watched our guys bat over the last period, wherever they bat around the world and when they play for the Australian team, it's close to all guns blazing. So, yeah, you can probably expect to see that a little bit from our team. That's how we think we play best," David said on Monday. Australia leads the three-match series 1-0, with the second T20I scheduled for Tuesday in Darwin. David's 83 off 52 balls has now taken his tally to 215 runs in his past three T20I knocks, a sequence that includes a 37-ball century against the West Indies in St Kitts a fortnight ago. 'That's not part of the plan for me. To be honest, the things I've been building towards are the T20 World Cup next year and the major tournaments that are leading up to that. Honestly, I don't operate much further than the next day ahead. But it's a nice problem to have, because if I wasn't scoring any runs, then you wouldn't be asking that question," added David. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
